Now joint second for combined goals and assists in the league this year:

Salah 16
Sterling, Sané, De Bruyne, LUKAKU 14

What a flop.

If you extend this to the Champions League too, it looks like:

Salah 24
Kane 23
Sterling, LUKAKU 19

Just keep him in the box and provide him with service. He'll bang them in without a doubt.

Well he is the centre of every single move and attack of our attacking play & never dropped ever. unlike all those other players he can hardly do anything by himself. Salah sterling sane de bryune all have the ability to work individually & part of a team & that's why in particular city have 3 in your table whilst Lukaku is our only one.

Rashford or Martial as strikers have easy ability to match Lukakus numbers on top of the ability not to be so heavily reliant on the team around them.

Fantastic header. Gary Neville should pipe down trying to tell him how to celebrate.

He's the best header of the ball in our team, maybe in the PL but he has technical ability is far below than what is needed in our team.

Nice that we manoeuvred him so he was up against Gibbs. It's important that we're able to score against deep teams to draw them out, and crossing is the way to go about it. The guy is vital for us.

We need to get some fecking wingers in. This guy is so good at heading. He’d be so good against Fulham.

Whether you have concerns about his transfer tag, being a flat track bully or his technical abilities, we can all agree that we're better off with him. Last season's team would struggle to even grind a 1-0 win on days like this.

What on earth are you doing with comparisons like that. None of those players are anything like Lukaku. De Bruyne's a fecking midfielder.

Also there's nothing stopping Rashford or Martial taking on players and scoring goals themselves. They simply haven't because whether it's the system or individual performances, they haven't delivered. It's not Lukaku's fault.

If anything we're seeing that if more was going on behind him to create opening (instead of only a handful over 90 minutes), he would be scoring more.

Kinda digging the non celebration for his last 2 goals. Wonder if that’ll be in the next Fifa game, the non celebration celebration.

Rashford, Young and Martial have given him plenty of good crosses this season.

Yes because Rashford & Martial will score regularly when they are not played as strikers - instead they are played out wide to get the best out of lukaku - so of course he is our best performer

I don't really get the criticism of him at all, his all round play is actually very good and in attack he's the least of our problems - its the supporting cast around him that struggle to create. It's nice to have a top striker play for us. Stick him in City or Liverpool's team and he'd bang in even more than he does now.

He wouldn't start a game & martial/Rashford wpuld start over him upfront - they play in a completely different way; a totally different ball game.

Any stats to back this up? Even youth level?

Also, is there any striker who isn't heavily reliant on the team around them? I mean I suppose Messi can pick up all the ball from deep and still be the top scorer for his team, possibly Neymar. Any more you can think of?

Teams like WBA are about the level of teams he can bully, so it's good to see him living up to his reputation in that respect and doing well. It'd be awfully disappointing if he couldn't even turn up against such teams.

LUKAKU is reliant as RVN for service which can't be said for most of the strikers in the PL. I thought we had learnt the benefits of that type of striker & it's hindrances but I guess not.

Even if he is that reliant on service there's little to suggest that, right now, Rashford and Martial would definitely match his productivity in front of goal.

Done well today, in my opinion. Won a lot of his aerial duels, which unfortunately was picked up by any of our players. Ran channels well and scored a fantastic header.

Due a rest vs bristol and go again against Leicester.

Had a good game today. Decent in linkup and was strong in the air. Hope the form can turn around now. With Pogba back hopefully the service can improve as well.

For all the complaining about him, I don't believe we'd have been better off purchasing any of the alternative options. He's outscoring both Lacazette and Morata so far, and for all the talk of his lack of an all round game, we as a team have scored more than both so he's not exactly holding us back on that front. His contribution in big games does need to improve but the way we approach those games would make it difficult for most CFs.

Bad performance against City notwithstanding, he has been very crucial for us, winning a lot of points for us. The main difference between the last season.

They wouldn't want a striker like him. He's not the right fit for their type of football.

Happy I stood by him through the hard times when nearly everyone was absolutely hammering him. The guy needs crosses and he will score. Has shown great character to bounce back.

This. Feed him and he'll score all day long.

I hope he's rested against Bristol though, I think that would be a decent chance to start Zlatan.
