Feel for him. Hung out to dry by the tactics of the twat in charge.

He was used to more attacking positivity at Everton.

Apart from the "twat" part, totally agree.

Shit marking on the first goal... agreed. Second goal was pure luck (plus, where was the rest of the fecking defense)? The missed chance, he should have placed it better. Bone headed shot from outside the box... it happens.

Apart from that, I've never seen a striker so isolated in the first half. If that is how we play, then why buy him? Why not buy this mythical striker that plucks hoofed balls out of the sky, fend off 3 defenders and scores from this tactic at will? The way we set up just set him up for failure, sorry. There was absolutely no support from the midfield.

We should try not playing him sometimes. His hold up play is awful under pressure. Mix that with dreadful touches and he can be a disaster. It’s fine, he will get goals against other teams but don’t play him when he is this bad and when your tactics are nothing close what he thrives on.

Three major set piece gaffes in two games is entirely on him. The open goal is also on him, but the rest can be blamed on our -Mourinho’s- abysmal outlook in these games.

He’s a flat track bully who only scores against weaker teams. He’s done it for years. It’s why morata was my first choice in the summer of the available plqyers.

Really we should have tested spurs resolve to a 100 million bid for Kane

We wouldn't have gotten Kane for £100m even before the Neymar bid. If we spent our summer chasing after Kane, I think the club would have deserved flack for not getting someone in.

Only reason Jose hasn't benched him is because there is no better alternative, otherwise he is as bad as Mkhitaryan at the moment, lacks confidence, not scoring goals and needs to be benched.

He had a couple of good moments in the game, won some headers and made a few runs, but his link up play was poor and the final chance was a must score, but hit it straight at Ederson. Man this guy has a very poor right foot, the clearance for the goal and the shot into row Z.

There’s some truth to this. He is a 20/30 goal striker but looks a shadow of the killer he was last season. The service is poor and we as a team don’t play to his strengths.
He got the ball on 5m from goal on his left foot. If that is not good service ...

As wretched as the performance was, can't blame the miss on him. The keeper's luck was something else. It was a clean hit, well placed under the conditions. The ball hit the guy's throat.

No it was poor technique, he didn't hit it, he clipped it up to mid height. That should be smashed past the keeper, his shot had no power as he got under it.

He should be shifted to the bench mate. Lukaku on the wing would be way too slow. We need tricky wingers like City have. No more of this “false number 10” bullshit. They have Sane and Sterling, we need to get similar players like Perisic and Griezmann.
I wouldn't argue about benching but, seeing as he's one of José's biggest signings, he's bound to stay a starter. I agree we need some proper wide players in but, for now, I'd use him on the right for two reasons: we haven't got a player who's made that position their own anyway, and he's looked descent whenever he's drifted outside to the right wing, too.

Just a big lump. And no this isn't racist.

To play for a big-club you need more thenthat to score goals again cannon fodder.. he will hold us back in the same way Ruud did (before we sold him for the dynamic Louis Saha who had the pace, heading ability, finishing and link-up play everything the big lump doesn't), but he is a less superior goal-scorer than Ruud..

He can't hold the ball up and have a good first touch playing as a number 9 which is the basics.

Zlatan deserves his chance.
Agree with everything apart from the last bit. I'd give Rashford his chance.

I feel that today isn't the day to slate and criticise him. Trolls on twitter are already on his case but he was feeding off scraps today. There was only Matic and Herrera behind him, both of whom were defence oriented and no one to play him on. He was always surrounded by 2-3 blue shirts. Yes, he did miss a couple chances and elicited a super-save in the end but this was a collective failure.

The goal was his fault but then you don't expect a striker to be making those clearances in the first place.

I just dont understand how he is not dominating the air. In the first half he wasnt even jumping with the City center backs. Like he let them just head it back nearly every time.

I ca take him having a bad touch but I cant take him not being physically dominating.

He has been shite for a while now. This game sums it up pretty well, he is not clinical enough, doesn't win enough headers, does not do well on one on ones and gifts city with two goals. Well done.

Hopefully he gets better or murinho gets enough and tries someone else up top.

Worst performance I’ve ever seen from him. He was woeful today, no doubt about it.

He’s slow as feck aswell. He turns like a bus. In the right set up, he’s lethal but counter attacking football, he’s useless when he’s too far back. He can’t run.

He needs to be dropped, give him something to fight for.
You were the same dude who was always in support of signing Lukaku over Morata or any striker. You went as far as claiming he was a proper United player and you know one when you see one.

You even said players like Martial are not United type players and should be sold while we need to sign more players like Lukaku.

Should I go on or you’re gonna keep on spouting your bullshit?

He should be treated exactly the same way as Shaw, Mkhitaryan and Mata. Till now, he has been doing zilch, and today just made it worse.

Looks like Tarzan, but plays like Jane?

Combination of absolutely awful all round and then at the same time being unlucky as well. Could see him dropped for the next game.

He has to be. Did he even have a single decent moment today?

He appears stronger than say Morata or Kane but plays much much weaker because his touch is that much poorer.

What have we ended up buying seriously ...
I was about to write last week whether he has scored a meaningful goal for United so far ... that would have changed the result.
I am afraid I don't see it coming at all. We have been robbed ...

120 then, no messing. If you don’t try you don’t get. Having a consistent forward who can play football and score goals is a must if we want to play like ‘united’.

Massively disagree. Has the whole goal to aim at, instead of using any nous he hits hard, at chest height, straight in the middle.

Class strikers side foot that low and to corners. He just tried to hit it hard. Speaks to a lack of confidence, hopefully, rather than ability.

Was getting beat by Otamendive the entire game, which is disgraceful as that cb was getting bullied by Lingard. Dont understand what hes thinking; gets himself into wide open positions in on goal, fluffs it every single time. Stop saying he has no talent, he was the heir to the Drogba throne at Chelsea. Unfortunate that he needs Pogba on the pitch to demonstrate his skills. I Still cant figure out if he works better with Rashford or Martial. He needs a rest, a talking to, and a benching. Hes young and very humble, his confidence has to be shot. Give the kid a rest.

Wise up we were never in a title race this season let alone match the way City are going .
We gifted them the game simple as that. They scored 2 goals from set pieces and two scrappy goals. There is no excuse. We started the second half well but then Lukaku did that so yes he cost us the game big time. I like Lukaku but I cannot defend what he did today.

This guy is a rich man’s Jozy Altidore.

fecking brainless waste of fecking space.

Gets dominated in the air by Otamendi who is 30 centimeters shorter.

Gifted them 2 goals in the set pieces, never connected with his teammates, and then missed that gilt edged opportunity at the end.

Waste of space, no composure, send him back to Everton.

You were surprisingly quiet about our performance last week. Some fans just love their opinions too much.

I wasn't on RedCafe last week because I was busy. But thank you for identifying the regularity with which I frequent an internet forum.

Anyway, seems some people agree. Good on 'em.

I think the gameplan today was to punt long balls to bypass the midfield and to have Lukaku win flicks to one of Martial/Rashford/Lingard. To be fair, Lukaku should be moderately well suited to this. Zlatan's probably a better fit for it, but he's obviously still finding his fitness.

So you were happy with the supply he got for the full 90 minutes? Hoofing from Rojo, overhit passes from Rashford etc. He had nothing to work with bar that brilliant moment from Mata and Martial and he bottled it. He’s to blame for the goals conceded but the service from us is poor and that cannot be denied.

Right now I'm tempted to bin him. He's been anonymous in the first two tests this season, sadly he wasn't anonymous enough today.

He is our Emile Heskey.

Give Lukaku a break. Seriously - Mourinho needs to give him a break because he's overplayed at the moment.

The chance he missed wasn't easy to score and most of the time the striker react quickly to the ball coming at him which he did. Just a shame it went straight to the keeper.

He was at fault for both goals because he failed to defend and clear those ball properly. Although he isn't really a defender I give him a few Lee ways there but it was still bad from him(especially the first goal where he got overpowered by some small guy).

What was truly upsetting about him was his horrible plays forwards with one which led to the free kick that had City score the second goal. It was a simple pass while we were attacking in city's half with all the time in the world and Lukaku fecked up that pass.

He's been isolated for weeks.

Mourinho needs to revaluate how to use him. Lukaku shouldn't be given defensive duties at set pieces. Keep him outside the box ready to go on the counter.

For now he needs some rest and time to regain confidence. Rashford, Martial and Lingard have all played better than him up front and deserves a chance as the center forward.

He’s a terrible footballer, always has been.

Again, he’s like a centre half playing up front. Have to blame the manager as we were limited to a small pool of ‘Mourinho strikers’ - i.e, security guards instead of footballers.

I'm just gonna say it but I hate that we bought him. We're stuck with him for the next 5 years and have to play our more talented young attackers out of position to accommodate him.

With the amount of money in the PL and the value of a reliable 20/season striker I think there'd be a lot of teams interested at 30-40 million. But that would mean Mourinho and the club admitting they were wrong. We're stuck with him as our first choice for at least the next few years or until we change our manager.

Easy to say from your computer screen. I'm not taking the blame off him for the rest of the game, but the keeper did his job well on this one, with a good dose of luck. He blocked the second ball as well, immediately afterwards.

I think 150 mil and Levy would have buckled. If Neymar had a price, Kane most definitely does.

In fact, if Spurs finish out of the top 4, we should put in a serious bid for him. But I don't see the club ditching our 75 mil buy that quick. Lukaku is going to get another season to prove himself.

What annoys me is how the feck is he not winning any headers in the final third? He's built like a shit brickhouse! He's lost most of his aerial duels today. What's the point of all that bulk if you can't use it?

He looks depressed or clueless last months, i was so much for him signing with us but things are looking very poor right now. He is allowed full freedom, but the intensity and pace is just not there, no chase given, poor press, very poor interaction with the others, many blind random passes without address, and the clinicalness that makes him so good is all but gone. perhaps 1-2 games on the side would do him good and spark him up.

7 goals only in the league at the moment isn't something I expected especially during Sep when he was on fire. He's not even in the race of top goal scorers this season at all. Only one goal in the league in 2.5 months is very very poor, to be fair and honest.
