Roland Garros 2010

Is Federer and Nadal on opposite sides of the draw? I presume they are, but which one would have had the chance of meeting Murray?

Murray through in 5 sets. Looked strong at the end against a knackered Gasquet. Hopefully he can get to the quarters at least. Not sure what his draw is like from here, but that's the toughest 1st round tie he's likely to ever have tbh.

He has Chela next who he recently beat in the Madrid Open on clay so as long as he recovers in time and plays well he should get through. After that he could face either Granollers-Pujol or Baghdatis in the 3rd round.

I didn't expect that from 2 sets down

I had to go so didn't catch the final three sets, what happened, how did it turn around, did Gasquet's level just drop, i read he had the trainer out, injured?

He just won Nice and had to play on Monday. There was nothing left in the tank come the third set. At 3-1 he was break up front and had the opportunity to close it out - then he got broken back, and broken again and again and..well he won 3 games afterwards out of 18..

Murray played defensively all match. He just got the ball back and wait for Gasquet to implode. That wasn't working when Gasquet could impose himself and dictate play in the first 2-3 sets, but after he had no legs left to chase every ball, he went for it and made handful of UF errors.

All in all Murray would get spanked by Baghdatis or Berdych playing like that. He needs to change his mentality or hope for rainy weather and slow conditions.

I also missed the last 3 sets due to having to leave my house at the time but i asked a friend to text me updates on how it was going. Here was his text commentary.

"Gasquet crumpling like a marionette. Was a break up, lost it. 2 sets to 1 now."

"Gasquet falling to pieces like a chess set on a bumpy train. Murray a break up in 4th."
"Gasquet coming apart at the seams like a sweatshop sweater in a tumble dryer. 2 sets each."

"Gasquet flopping like a paper padlock on a rainy day. Murray break up in 5th set (4-1)."

"Gasquet lost the plot like a dyslexic schoolboy. Murray wins."

Nadal looks in good touch.

Yeah. I saw him and he looked like the Nadal that steamrolled this tournament in the past. Glad to see him back to his best and I hope he continues in this vain into Wimbledon.

Monfils will have it tough today. His odds are not reflective on the standard of opponent and the fact he has been injured this season.

Just about able to talk about Gulbis now. My biggest betting loss I have had this year. Afte Benneteu turned me over against Tsonga earlier in the year. Not good. I'd say there was feck all wrong with him - nerves made him tighten up and Benneteau played a blinder.

.

God I'm good. Traded at 1.01 as well....

Hope a few took it...

Murray doing well but its a Nadal - Fed final. I expect Murray to lose easily in 3 against either of these players - which I think may hurt his confidence going into the grass court season

I think Murray might struggle against Baghdatis today (if they get on). He'll have been on court three days in a row now, and it will take its toll. I think he's been too passive so far, and it's only really been when he's dictated the pace that he's looked like someone who could go far.

Murray for all the hype is not playing well imo... His back handed slices are suitable for grass court tennis.

I'd expect Baggy to give him a better game, and like Murray's first match - it could go to 5 sets. Baggy ain't fit enough for Paris when the sun is burning the place imo.

Aye, he's a tubby little fecker alright. But I can see him taking Murray to four at least, and he won't give it to him easy.

Have you seen Kuznetsova recently. Now that is Tubby

I'm nearly 100% confident ths is heading for a Nadal - Fed final...

I cannot see anyone get close. I'd love to say Djorkovic but his head is fecked. Ferer & Ferrero might give one of them a game, but Nadal and Fed have been assume to date

I also forgot to say....

How feckin' pathetic is Ivanovic? Goes to show what a state the women's game was in that she became number one without ever looking even remotely like a top player. She's just a slightly-more-talented Kournikova.

Murray has just gone up a break

EDIT
make that a double break, serving for the 1st set at 5-2

Federer looks in good touch, too. I don't watch much of the French open usually, but Federer looks more comfortable on clay than I've seen him look before.

The Brit commentators are sickening. Murray's playing well, but not brilliantly, and they're calling him a 'genius' and 'world class'.

And they wonder why the pressure seems to get to him at times.

Yeh perhaps

The clearest thing to me is that Baghdatis forehand is letting him down not that Murray is particularly playing him off the court

Aye, that's it. Murray's just doing his job in a professional way, but he's far from his best, by his own high standards. And yet they're going over the top, as usual.

He'll get whipped by Nadal or Fed.....

Shame.... Game is just not suitable for Clay

Amazing set from Baghdatis. Three breaks and serving for it.

Though I can see Murray coming out of the blocks quickly in the fourth, and breaking Baghdatis' spirit.

oh dear.....

what was he thinking.... momentum with baggy

Murray - lucky escape.... you wouldn't see nadal or fed do that.

I'll put it down to tireness and dodging the rain yesterday. i will not fault him

i would love to punch andy sour face murray

feckin grumpy bastard

and he grunts like a dieing animal when he hits the ball......arrrghhhhhhhh

can you tell i dont like him?

Which makes it even worse than with Kournikova

Nadal hammered Hewitt in straights sets.

He's been unbelievable these past few months.

Just dropped 2 sets in the 3 and a half tournaments he has played till now.

Only one player has even managed to take him to a tie break.

Former grand slam winner vs the former player and part time model going on now.

Henin breaks already.
