On a side note, it's great to see Juve back at the top challenging for top players like RVP(obviously i hope he doesn't go there).

At £15M we're better off keeping him and you won't bid £20M and pay him £10M a year

I think Sir Alex wants a quick fix to retire on a high and will try his best to get RvP. It's certainly very unusual for United to be interested in such a signing.

On a side note when was the last time we had a naturally left footed striker? RVP has one of the sweetest left foots in the world.

I'm not one of them Al.

I quite like Arsenal and believe it or not I do respect Liverpool...

It is clubs like City and Chelsea that will eventually end up killing the English game.

I think you've summed up how 90% of United fans feel. There are the proper clubs who built their way upto where they are in the game, and the rivalry is great, the fans are great for banter with too..

The sugar daddy clubs are rivals as well, but there's far less respect for how they got to the top as far as I'm concerned.

Pete, even I will feel sorry for you if we grab RVP for £15m.

I don't think he is the player we want or will get but would give me a moments joy he he.

Just want to clarify, that I have had good banter with some City and Chelsea fans too. The Chelsea fans on here are alright too.

I have one or two very good City supporting mates.

But how the supporters of these clubs can feel happy about what they have seen happen to their club baffles me.

It would kill me..

What many don't realise is the clubs they used to support have ceased to exist.

Yeh, I'm with you on that.

I appreciate that no-one wants a closed shop with the traditional greats ruling forever, but I just don't see how people can look at the RVP situation and not think it's a bit sad more than anything. If he went to United, I could actually accept that, but if he went off to City, you wonder what the game's coming to.

Arsenal won't sell to Man Utd so if that's true he's Turin bound or staying put.

It's not that big a rivalry anymore mate, while ideally I can see why you as a fan would not want him to go to United, these decisions are made well above wenger's head by owners who could'nt give a rats about some fading historical rivalry. If the finance is right and he wants to go to United, he will go. You could argue that you don't want to sell to a rival for football reasons then why sell clichy and nasri to city? Also you could argue that it would upset the fanbase, are they not already upset at the way the club is being run, and losing players to rival teams at home and abroad every season, it appears to be just accepted now, 60,000 a game at the emirates tells you that. Not having a go, ars a good club under wenger with a good philosophy on football and playing young players and we can relate to that, it's just the way it is for arsenal at the moment.

..actually it would be quite sad even if we got him...

But Arsenal have made a business decision about how they want to run the club. The only stumbling block is how patient the fans will be.

If we take Chelsea and City out of the equation, Arsenal will have a pretty good chance of winning a trophy or two...which will mean they can hang n to more of their players...and thus pay them more too.

So you can see the impact of these 'artificial' clubs. currently.

i like juve and if i were a professional i would want to have a stint at juve but right now there is no comparison between juve and us even though they have a nice central midfield.

Unless RvP really has a yearning to live in italy and play in serie a, then there should be no contest between us and them.

We're Manchester United fans; that's how. Arsenal doesn't have any inherent right to their players or their success if they can't keep it themselves.

I like the Italian National team. With very few exceptions,(2010) they always put up a good showing. But their league is rampant with corruption.

These match fixing scandals that come out ever so often are only teh tip of teh iceberg.

You really wonder how these clubs are run.

I do think its sad. Arsenal no longer offering the ability to win trophies and repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot by not getting the right kind of players in. Its a vicious cycle where you are repeatedly punching yourselves in the face and while it was funny at first, it may eventually become hard to watch.

The solution is pretty simple. Get rid of players who dont want to be there, replace them with players who do want to be there. And if signing quality players means paying a fair bit of money and giving them competative wages to some of the top clubs, then so be it. Winning the "We did well without spending as much money as United" cup that some people think exists, may appease a few fans and Wenger, but its not going to keep your players happy.

Some players might even be happier seeing you spending way too much on players who dont work out that well. At least it would be show that you're trying.

Even with all their seemingly thrifty squad sales and salary restrictions Arsenal barely turn a profit, at least last time I checked. I for one think all teams should be run at a profit, and salaries determined appropriately. I applaud Arsenal for resisting what few clubs can, going into debt in the hope that their investment will lead to increased success and revenue.

Let's not forget what happened to Leeds, it can happen to almost anyone.

Bollox from start to finish. See the post above for a bit of sense.

First injury-free season he had in a decade and he wants out. He has no right to publicly question the club's ambitions when the club stood by his side and payed his wages year after year when he used to regularly return from Netherlands friendlies with half a broken leg. This current generation of Dutch players (Robben, Sneijder and the likes) is the most unlikeable I've seen.
