Robin van Persie

Well, I've seen Villa play with 4 different teams. All of different quality. Scored goals with every one of them. Then internationally he's done great. Record breaker for Spain.
Persie has about 3 good seasons in his 11 season career. Nothing special playing for Holland. Villa has never had a poor season. This season will be his first season not scoring 20 goals and that's because he broke his tibia.

Injuries and injuries held him back for a few years. He would have reached these heights earlier in his career if not for his horrible run with them.

David Villa has also been playing in a poorer league for his whole career. Villa has also been surrounded with pure class, best of the best while playing for his country. It would be harder for Villa not to score for Spain considering their creative talent. You can't say the same about Van Persie. He has played in the toughest league in the world in a struggling Arsenal team (not underming Villa's good scoring record for Zaragoza), and yet playing for a good Holland team, they are a fair bit away from the class of Spain.

And like I and CM has said, fitness issues have held his Arsenal career back. I believe that if RVP had the same luck with fitness that DV has had in his career, then RVP would have developed into the all round better player and superior striker.

persies had his fair share of injuries. We are seeing is what he is really capable of when luck is on his side.

He hasn't been playing in a poorer league, that's just an ignorant opinion not a fact. Spanish teams haven't done any worse than English sides in Europe in the last decade when Villa was there, the likes of Sevilla, Atletico, Villarreal and Espanyol actually had very good European seasons while Valencia, Barcelona and Real have been constantly solid. I find it baffling that so many people are convinced that the likes of Bolton, Stoke or Fulham are comfortably better than teams like Malaga, Mallorca and Espanyol.

What a player. He's having a season similar to Ronaldo's in 07-08 in an inferior team. I don't think there's a striker in the world that comes close to him.

...other than Messi and ...well...Ronaldo

Wenger needs to get his chequebook out, if they lose this guy they're fecked.

It'd be the last straw for Arsenal and it's fans I think. Without him there isn't really anything that separates them from every other midtable side.

At least they have great teams providing them with plenty of chances. RVP is living of a handful of chances a game if that and he's taking them again and again. He's got to be the most clinical around at the moment.

he is fookin brilliant....as I said before id love to see him at United.

He's scored 57% of Arsenal's goals this season. He's having an absolutely ridiculous season.

Yep, if we can nab him this summer we should go for it. He's playing too well to not try and get him. I don't think he'd come but I hope we try. He and Rooney would be a superb combo.

Footballer of the Year? There, said it. Now I will go hide in a cave.

A class act.

Arsenal must pay him handsomely and keep him on board at all costs. It would be the final straw as others have said if he left...

I hope he is a PL player next season. We're very low on truly exceptional talents right now...

It's retarded isn't it? On here he's a deadlier version of Huntelaar, who only scores tap ins because of Ozil and Alonso's passes
Its not, specially given his left foot isn't the strongest :) and I am not even one of those messi fan boys.

Are Ibrahimovic and Cavani really a class below him?

Aguero, Wayne Rooney, Ibra, Cavani are all those who aren't far off from him, but trust Mac to get in his superlatives about an Arsenal player.

I rate Ibrahimovic unlike others, but I still think he flatters to deceive. I haven't seen enough of Cavani, and I dont think the Italian league is particularly strong.

The mods on here do make me laugh sometimes, talking about cracking down on agenda posting. I cant praise Arsenal without being called an Arsenal fan, despite clearly spending more time talking about United. Perhaps it upsets the foreign support who've no idea of the rivalry between Liverpool and City and only recognise the rivarly we've had with Arsenal since the Premiership years. Just a thought.

Villa is not class because he's injured? What about Benzema and Higuain? Despite playing with Ronaldo and often have to take turns playing they are both in the top 5 goal scorers in La Liga. Benzema has really been classy this season.

It would be interesting to see if Benzema, Villa etc could bang in the goals with a level of supply line consisting of Gervinho, Song and Arteta etc.

The best player in the league this season by a country mile. Playing phenomenal, what a player.

Top 3 out and out strikers atm: RVP, Mario Gomez (who has been in the form of his life for the last 18 months), and 1 from Falcao, Cavani and Benzema who have also been on fire (for club and country).

Bayern fans would disagree

Villa banged in goals for Sporting Gijon, Zaragoza and different Valencia teams.

Gervinho and Arteta would have made the midfield that played behind Benzema at Lyon.

I'm not sure I would go that far, but I cant say who I would pick instead.

I don't see anyone who has had a season as prolific, not just in terms of goalscoring but just overall impact. Silva would have challenged him in the first half of the season, but he's tailored off now. I'm not saying that he's necessarily better than any other player in the league by a country mile, but the season he's having is top notch, and far ahead of that of any other player.

You not think so? I would say them 2 are a level below Van Persie. Ibrahimovic on his day comes close but he's too much of a big game bottler to be on RVP's level. I'm perhaps one of the few that aren't entirely convinced about Cavani, have a feeling he could flop if he moved on to a bigger club. Havn't seen as much of him as some of you guys but.

I don't think it's that clear-cut really, what's been so phenomenal about Van Persie in the last 18 months has been his consistent goalscoring, other than that I don't think he's been doing anything special. Cavani has 41 in 60, Ibrahimovic 46 in 65, Van Persie 50 in 65 - certainly better and I'd definitely say he's the best in the world, but I don't think there's a class between them. Ibrahimovic over that period scored against Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter, Lazio, Roma, Napoli, Fiorentina and Juventus...or to put simpler, every one of the top 10 in the Serie A over the last two years. He didn't show up against Madrid and Spurs last year but that's all you can say against him, and it might be different this year.

He doesn't look any slower and most of his injuries were one-off contact ones rather than strains or recurrent ones. I think he's got smarter at anticipating a kick as you do as you get older and his ability to poach/finish has just got ridiculous.
