I still think our strike force was fantastic without RvP. Loved how Welbeck made the team up the tempo up front.

This signing just adds an extra dimension, and amazing cover for any injuries.

I'd argue that RVP becomes first choice alongside Rooney and Welbeck becomes the cover for the injuries (which there will be) and option from the bench.

right so thats:
Rooney, RVP, Welbeck, Chicarito, Berbatov, Henriquez, Macheda upfront.
Scholes, Carrick, Kagawa, Cleverley, Anderson, Fletcher, Powell, Tunnincliffe in the middle.

Nani Young and Valencia on the wings.

Frig me Fergie was right, we need a shitload more wingers.

Peter whats the story?

I'm not sure why some people think we don't need a striker. Owen has been released, and Berbatov is up for sale. Hernandez had a very ordinary last season. Macheda just won't make the grade at United.

Basically if something happens to Rooney or Welbeck we're suddenly struggling for strikers.

Some guy asked Phil Neville if he's ready for RvP and Rooney on Monday night and he replies : "Hammy is a bit tight tonight!!!!!!!!!! "

Fryan Friggs and Trebeley can play on wing too.

I won't pretend striker would be my first choice to strengthen, I was hoping for cover at full back and in the center, however, Rooney/RVP with the likes of Nani and Kagawa linking with them is perhaps the best forward line since we had Rooney/Tevez/Ronaldo up there.

Phil Neville relishing playing against him on the opening day!

@ChristopherMcD_: @fizzer18 looking forward to Rooney/ Van Persie first day of the season mate?” Hammy is a bit tight tonight!!!!!!!!!!

With this signing, we should really go to 4-3-3.

Forward 3 out of Rooney, Van Persie, Nani, Wellbeck, Young, Hernandez
Middle 3 out of Carrick, Scholes, Kagawa, Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs

Valencia could go to wingback?

For the love of god, don't play Valencia on the left....

He isn't a striker. He may be an ACM, but he isn't a striker. You can't include a player who makes do there as a top player in that position.

He's a CM/ACM who will play behind Rooney, or Van Persie, or both depending on the formation.

Yes, I'm aware Kagawa isn't a striker, but nonetheless he still takes up 1 of those 2 slots when played where "he should be" played. The others I mentioned are all strikers, but I thought Kagawa deserves a mention since he's more than good enough to merit a big load of minutes, and the position he usualy plays is the one behind the main striker.
Makes sense when you think about it, doesn't it?

when we need to play Welbeck etc then what? RVP gets less time? He will hate that and we will lose the league. WHO THE feckING feck CARES, I LOVE THIS SUMMER.

United - 35 million for the bundesliga player of the year and the premier league player of the year. Liverpool - 35 million for Andy Carroll

From twitter. Excellent.

Play VP out on the wing, Nani on the other, Rooney and Welbeck up front. Easy as pie.

Yeah, silly mistake. Opposite sides obviously.

A great signing, but...

We've been ripped off (should the £20m+ be true) and I'm not sure this is the best for long-term squad development.

£24m for the footballer isn't worth it. But this signing probably means more than that for United.

Am I the only one that's still way more excited about Kagawa compared to RvP?

And in order to "change the tune" a different question: What number do you think he'll wear? I'd say #9 is reasonable, that is if Berba leaves, which hasn't happened yet and honestly the interest isn't that big apparently.

After the Berbatov transfer (four years ago) £24m for the player of the season in similar age is worth it.
