I'm not sure why some people think we don't need a striker. Owen has been released, and Berbatov is up for sale. Hernandez had a very ordinary last season. Macheda just won't make the grade at United.

Basically if something happens to Rooney or Welbeck we're suddenly struggling for strikers.

Not really Sults, we don't have to play with 2 strikers now that we've got Kagawa.

But we do, now that we've got van Persie.

Our frontline is going to be scary to face now, as if it already wasn't.

United - 35 million for the bundesliga player of the year and the premier league player of the year. Liverpool - 35 million for Andy Carroll

From twitter. Excellent.

Pretty sure Kagawa wasn't actually Bundesliga player of the year. Bit of a myth that.

Don't disagree with the general message though, I like those signings.

Am I the only one that's still way more excited about Kagawa compared to RvP?

And in order to "change the tune" a different question: What number do you think he'll wear? I'd say #9 is reasonable, that is if Berba leaves, which hasn't happened yet and honestly the interest isn't that big apparently.

I am excited about both. Kagawa has been a really pleasant surprise. RVP just tops it all off. If we have got this young Chilean kid as well, even better.

Depends on the faith you have in Hernandez I suppose. And Welbeck too, it's not a given that he'll suddenly score the required 15+ goals as a regular.

In 06/07 we had Rooney, Saha and Smith and in 07/08 we had Tevez, Rooney and Saha, so we can obviously cope fine with 3 strikers. The difference obviously is neither Welbeck or Hernandez come close to Saha or Tevez at this stage in their career.

Personally I didn't want Van Persie at all but I didn't want Evra or Vidic when we had Heinze and Brown at the time so it's easy to be short-sighted like that . Sir Alex wants that title back.

Maybe not in European competitions and a few teams in the Premiership. In most other matches SAF will employ 2 attackers.

That's the whole point. Sir Alex is angry and is coming out fighting.

Pique <3

Thanks to Adam Buxton I read that as "Pique, Ice Cream cone on side."

He will now yes as he won't bench RvP nor Rooney in most games, but I am personally not sure that's what's best for the team.

That's mainly down to me falling in love with Kagawa this summer though and always had a hard on for Welbeck.

I think the reason we got by then was having a man out wide scoring 20+ and 40+. Another great striker is a very nice bonus. The beauty of Van Persie is he creates chances around him too.

If he passes his medical, I'll be doing this-

George Michael. Up the shitter.

I'm still waiting on Nani's contract extension at this point more than anything else.

Good statement of intent from them though"

Going to be something else this fecking get in !!! COME ON !!!

I wasn't really excited about his signing initially. However, I see the wisdom in his signing. Just could be the difference in keeping us at the very top.

The curse of the Arsenal captain.

Viera, Henry, Gallas, Fabregas and Van Persie

I'm sure the issue SAF etc are looking at is Europe, Van Persie is a much better bet to get a goal there than Welbeck is, I do hope this signing, as good as it is overall, doesnt come at the expense of Welbecks progress though, the lads a brilliant home grown prospect, my biggest pleasure from United is seeing lads like that make it .

Happy and satisfied I am!
and a bit sad on behalf of the Arsenal fans. But, I can live with it....

I'd be expecting a similar number of goals from Kagawa that Ronaldo got in 06/07, to be honest. And Nani obviously offers more goal threat than Giggs in the other wide position. Add in Rooney taking his scoring up another level and I'd say it evens out.

Absolutely though, it's a great bonus. Sir Alex loves his strikers.

I think I'll be in the same boat in a few weeks' time, I'm not really sure what I think of it right now. Always great to have another top class attacker in the side though.

Congratulatons @SamNasri19 - you're no longer the most loathsome ex Arsenal player in Britain.

Don't worry Piers, you're still the most loathsome ex-journalist in the US.

 Bitter is not the word.

@piersmorgan
Good news, Cashley @TheRealAC3 - we've finally found someone even more money-grabbing than you. @Persie_Official

@GaryLineker Yes, thanks, Jugs. Just pouring out a bowl of sulphuric acid for Van Persie's tea.

@piersmorgan
Careful, Shrek @WayneRooney - you've got a treacherous new Donkey arriving.

‏@piersmorgan
What a sickening betrayal of Wenger too - the man who stood so loyally behind @Persie_Official through years of injury. #VanPursestrings

‏@piersmorgan
Well done, Ivan Gazidis, a great bit of 'business' - selling #Arsenal 's top player to our bitter rivals. Shame on you & the whole board.

‏@piersmorgan
Funny, I really thought @Persie_Official was different. But he turned out to be just another mercenary, heartless, selfish little s**t.

BREAKING: @Persie_Official just signed for United.

Very good point, that. But assumption was that Kagawa would play in the hole and hence you have a second top quality option in that front two (main striker and withdrawn forward).

simple how rvp fits.

De Gea
Valencia
Rio
Vidic
Evra
Nani
Carrick
scholes
Young
Rooney
RvP

play this for 30 out of 38 matches we have and absolutely torch teams in those 30 games. 90 pts in the bag, we are going to mount this pig of a league and feck the innards out through its nostrils.

Absolutely.

Just a shame we had to offload Kagawa to Bolton after he simply didn't have the impact we were expecting of him...

Doesn't he realise how stupid he sounds. Why not ask why they all want to leave.

After the Berbatov transfer (four years ago) £24m for the player of the season in similar age is worth it.
Well at the time I was also vocal against signing Berbatov for that much. I have been generally against RVP signing but I don't particularly mind. We could certainly have used the money better though.

RVP is superior but for a 29 year old with a year left on his contract it's hugely inflated.

How does everyone feel then? This is our biggest signing in years.

Absolutely over the moon!

People laughed at me at the very start when I said we'd be in for him and might get him.

A statement: we still can attract some of the world's best.

Bluemoon:

Except Torres had already faded by the time he got to Chelsea and Drogba was in the twilight of his career. Rooney and RVP have both just had the best seasons of their career: and there has never been a striker that Rooney could not play with either.
