He won and scored a penalty, set up Jones for a free header 6 yards out, was inches away from setting up Rooney for a tap-in (and would've set up Nani if he made the run) with another great cross, almost played in Anderson for a run through at goal if not for poor control. Along with that he defended really well and found Valencia, Rooney and Nani in good areas at various points in the second half. I'm bemused that people are criticising him for a poor game again today. Mertesacker and Koscielny obviously knew his game well and defended well against him...I don't think that makes him poor. They barely gave him a chance to get the ball under control all game but I thought he coped well with that.
Agree. I'm not sure if people expect him to drop deep and beat men a d single handedly create chances for himself or what. He's the lead striker, how involved he is will often depend on the service. I thought he did fairly well in the times he got into good positions.

Agree with Brwned and Amolb. I wonder what people on here would have said about van Nistelrooy during his less-prolific periods.

Some people eh? I feel it's more to do with his form vs Rooney's form. It's ridiculous!!

Why doesnt the guy change his twitter name?

I think he deliberately created his twitter name as RvP, because he knows too well being called "RvP" is beneficial to him! How many people uses their initial as a twitter handle?

Besides, his whole name initial is not RvP. (It's Ravi Visvesvaraya Sharada Prasad- RVSP, which is longer than three letters!) It's deliberate.

Or...why didn't Robin van Persie take the twitter handle as @rvp?

That's brilliant.

I have to say that I'll remember this season mostly for RVP. I haven't particularly enjoyed the football we've played this season (yes I'm such a terrible supporter) but I've found him fantastic to watch. His technique, touch, and ability to do something brilliant have really stood out and made things much more interesting.

I genuinely only came in here and said RvP was mostly poor yesterday because wr8 was in the Rooney thread complaining that Rooney is the only one to ever get abuse. It was a weird thing of me to do but I just thought it was funny how offended he seemed to get that RvP wasn't getting any abuse while Rooney was.

It's hilarious. It seems to be the default method of deflection. "wayne was bad....but he wasn't as bad as RvP so....." and yet it wasn't really based on anything concrete.

It's so strange how some of you pit one player against another. You would think these two play for different teams at times. To me, it is childish and it's interesting we struggle to view a player's performance accurately simply because he is/is not our favorite player. I have seen it so many times. Conveniently ignoring the bad parts of a player's performance and getting all worked up because somehow we can't accept RvP/Rooney having a poor performance. I have seen similar with Valencia.

The other day I was reading through the "best league in terms of quality thread" and some posters were being incredibly bullish in there. While some brought up valid points about the PL not being the greatest, it was simply glossed over and the same points without much substance were repeated. Maybe the PL doesn't have the best quality matches in Europe. So what? Are people so full of pride they cannot admit in an arbitrary argument about leagues that they might be wrong? The fact people reach conclusions about a league they barely watch is just baffling.

Excuse me for the rant, it just surprises me how irrationally obtuse people will get on here. For what reason, I am not sure.

Player of the month.

And apparently he's confirmed what number he'll be wearing next season, if that matters.

#9 surely!

If not, who's going to take that number? Welbeck maybe.

A number 9 who plays on the wings and scored 2 goals this season? Really hope RvP takes it or else it'll probably be the new striker that we inevitably bring in.
