Roberto Firmino

Good signing for them if it is true. Would've been good at United as well IMO.

£30m!?

That's €40m? That's a decent wedge by anyone's standards. I saw someone mention they're going to play him up front. I thought he was a midfielder, no?

Lot of money. Don't care. Must mean we're confident about getting decent wedge for Sterling, and feck it, we're in no position to be stingy about a player posting the numbers, and giving the performances that Firmino is. Still potential that someone is confusing their pounds for their euros as well.

tbh though, the BBC have been constantly wrong on the fee we paid for Memphis, so there is no saying they are right on this too.

The fee must be wrong, just like Depay

With Falcao leaving and RVPs future still in question it makes perfect sense that we're in the market for a striker. Firmino is no better than those two as a striker, like I said he is still unproven in this role which is not the same as saying he hasn't played in that role. Benteke and Lukaku are proven goalscorers in the doubles even with smaller teams in the EPL. I'd take either one of them any day over Firmino as a striker

Them leaving doesn't alter anything, look at other teams playing a one striker system, you don't have £30M back ups, so if we bought either Benteke or Lukaku we are going to start them and Rooney in the #10 role, which is a back step. So a player like Firmino who can play 4 positions, one that would cover the games when Rooney isn't starting, makes more sense than either of them IMO.

English journos with unrealistic prices again, they don't know the difference between euro and pound i think.

It's strange really that all the talk was of 18-20 million but now every journo is reporting 29 million specifically which means it must be official

After watching him in a few games, I can say that he looks decent but lacks the little extra. He is no extraordinary player and I'm not too worried about Liverpool getting him. I think he'll be a good signing for them though as he won't be expensive. Shame they get the chance to make signings like these. I'm talking about when they got Coutinho for £10m, I was shocked at the time, and I still don't understand how they did that.

To be honest, I have no fecking clue who or what this guy is. Just read something about him being an attacking midfielder.

Anyway, no point being bummed out about players we didn't sign until we find out who we did sign. Only then can we make a comparison.

He is, more than a forward, very creative and or be it in a slightly weaker league than ours but he does produce more chances than the likes of Robben, Ribery etc. really likes to play through balls and again is the most successful in that league over last three years. Playing way below his level at Hoffenheim so Liverpool a definite step up. He may not be super fast but compared to Mata, Carrick and Blind he's lightening. Can score although not prolific still 35 for club/country in last two seasons on top of 28 assists. I do watch a lot of Bundesliga as all live over here in SA.

He's not a striker and never will be. Not with 7 goals in 95 shots.

£30m is an absolute joke if true, that's pretty much what Liverpool will get for Sterling less QPR's portion.

With that fee he'll definitely be their major signing, because they won't be shelling out that amount anywhere else.

At that price it's not surprising. 29m pounds should be enough to seal him away from Hoffenheim. Not sure how real our interest was and City.

At the 15-20m reported earlier I'd imagine a lot of clubs would've been interested but double that not so sure.

Not withstanding some of the made up examples people are using to show Sky's inaccuracy, yeah they are not 100% reliable but they are more reliable than most others.

Anyway, this isn't being reported by just Sky like the Benatia thing. Story seems to have broken in Brazil first.

Unless someone swoops in now, seems Liverpool will get their man.

Fee is 30m Euros, didnt the Hoffenheim director say last week thats the fee they want? English papers getting confused again.

If its true, so be it.

Good player no doubt about it, but we've currently got a front line of Depay, Di Maria and Rooney. I've no doubt we'll get a proper forward (not a player adapting to playing as a forward) before the window closes.

Being at Liverpool or not, I look forward to seeing him in the PL. Fantasy Football candidate for me.

Let's not try and console ourselves too much with how much Liverpool may or may not pay. At the end of the day, if he's a very good player and does well for them, nobody will bat an eyelid at the price in 6 months.

Anyone is lightening when compared to Mata, Carrick and Blind. Not even players in similar positions bar Mata. He's about as average in speed as Kagawa was.

I was happy with our links initially for £13M and then £18M, I thought that's decent value in the market.

£30M, feck that.
Yup, i wouldn't pay that much for a backup player and he wouldn't be more than that here. I'm just looking forward seeing Depay-Rooney-Di Maria front three in action, we will sign some other backup forward anyway:)

I hope so but does that then mean Rooney playing deep because God no he is like an additional opposing defender with the amount of good attacks he fecks up with his dodgy touch and short passing. Second thoughts scrap another CF signing unless as a back up.

That's the question though. Is he actually any good?

Can't say I've seen much of him at all. Have our resident Bundesliga experts commented?

Was giving comparisons with speed only not positions and his stats prove being non rapid does not hinder his game. My point is more for everyone saying he is slow and has no pace.

I guess our move has been hijacked fellas. Im so devastated haha! He never looked impressive to me. Now let wrap up the next Brazilian God Felipe Anderson

Fair enough. He's a Liverpool player now.

Interesting.

Think he'll be a good buy for them. Will slot right in to Sterling's spot in the team, no?
