Roberto De Zerbi

Hilarious that United would be a graveyard for managers, when you see the illustrious list of world class managers than have been in charge. The likes of Moyes, Ole, and even Mourinho, have continued to be what they were long after their stints here (average, never was and past it respectively)

We haven’t had a top class coach since Ferguson, no one has been buried. It’s just a series of very bad decisions in and within the club.

Even on the midst of our chaos, our players have picked up two more trophies than they would have at “well run” clubs like Arsenal and Spurs.

If graveyard is ‘’more domestic success than any other club bar the cheats in the last two seasons”, then I’d prefer the graveyard.

We will get it right, and in the meantime, we have continued to promote our youth and have genuinely special moments.

When he coached Sassuolo, his tactics were already pretty and progressive but he was also pretty easily found out and countered.

I don't watch Brighton much, I'm sure he's improved accumulating experience in Ukraine and PL, but down here he's still framed as a bit of a hipster coach, exciting but lacking substance for a club that has to deliver trophies.

Probably unjust but you can sense the prejudice.

While for smaller clubs like Lazio, with the relatively high profile career he's having, he's already beyond their reach.

That's exactly what it looks like and he's had a terrible run of form to end the season which meant no big club went near him. If he was as good as some on here think, he would have had his pick of clubs this summer.

I also don't think its unjust. I think he's overrated by many on here only cause he plays attractive football.

Not really, his stock was already high at sassuolo and went sky high after he got Brighton to 6th in the PL. Fans of Milan, Juventus or Napoli would have been doing cartwheels in the streets if they hired him. Of course Napoli fans are doing cartwheels in the street right now because they got Conte, the gobbos are pretty happy with Thiago Motta and Ibra just said Milan want to win so I guess Milan fans will now force themselves to be excited about Fonseca :smirk:
Eh Giorno, I dunno... In my circles, online/IRL, opinions are split but I feel like a majority of fans think his tactics are good, but not good enough to play with the approach he likes.

And folks look at how direct Juve and Napoli have been in closing for two coaches that are sophisticated, but first and foremost pragmatic and disciplined, and they draw their self-supporting conclusions.

Then of course, if one's club was stuck with Pioli, toying with Lopetegui and ending up with Fonseca, I understand he'd look at De Zerbi differently

If he waited a day for Marseille job i think he woulda got the Dortmund job

Marseille go through so many coaches. Marcelino went there and lasted about three months as did Gattuso (although more on his ability).

Very much a melting pot not so much for how far PSG are ahead but others.

I thought he'd wait another month and see what vacancies would come up in Serie A, Bologna would've been a decent fit with them being in the CL and having some exciting young players even if they'll sell a couple.

Massive signing in Greenwood (obviously talking about footballing ability and what he brings to the pitch, not the scumbag off the pitch) and I reckon he’s gonna absolutely tear in up in France. If it wasn’t for his off the field behaviour, he’d be worth 5 times what they are paying. Can play across the front three positions, two footed and a brilliant finisher. Exactly what we are missing.

Its a football forum and you are talking about a football club signing a football player - we got that

Fair enough lad, I was adding clarity for those less bright people who were bound to come at me for daring to say he was a good footballer. Wasnt in the mood for dealing with petty, easily rilled up people who have nothing else to be at other than throwing snarky comments at people on here and not actually adding anything of value. You know the type

Slide on back to work lad. I'll stick to football chat.

I don’t feel like this description fits a player who scored 8 goals in 33 appearances last season (including multiple penalties)

I could be wrong, but didn’t he play wide right and wide left in a 442 and a 4411 quite a bit last year? They didn’t play with a front three.
I’d also suggest it might have taken him a while to get back to match fitness and sharpness due to time out of the game.
Just a personal opinion, not based on anything other than seeing him play, but feel if he hadn’t missed so much football and was playing in his preferred position in an attack minded team, he’d be easily hitting 15-20 goals a season at this stage. Just my opinion, but opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and most of them stink.

I used to be convinced he’d be a superstar but had some doubts that he’d fulfil his potential even before his off-field behaviour torpedoed his career. He was chronically unfit for starters, blowing out of his arse before an hour of every match he played. That’s not a good sign. And in the season just gone someone posted a stat about him being the laziest attacking player in all of the top five leagues, bar none. So I’d say there’s already major red flags about his professionalism. And that’s a huge concern in any footballer.

Red flags aside, it does annoy me the way so many fans are bigging him up after scoring so few goals (most of them penalties) while Hojlund is getting pelters despite scoring more goals in fewer games (all in open play) in the league and five goals in the CL.

Anyhoo. Wrong thread for this discussion. So I’ll leave it there.

All fair points lad, not arguing with ya at all. You could very well be right. It’s funny because the when I look at the “dead certs” from our academy in recent years that I was telling all my mates about, the ones I was convinced would be superstars…my record hasn’t been great. Ravel, Pogba, Greenwood, Shoretire, Garnacho and Mainoo.

Same! Although I comfort myself that the “dead certs” at other clubs rarely make it either. It seems as though the standard at top PL clubs has got so ridiculous it’s borderline impossible to bring through homegrown talent.

A bit tactical insight how De Zerbi is trying to build the OM side.

He gone?

"If I'm the problem, I'm ready to go. I'm going crazy not understanding why we can't do this."

After the slap received against Auxerre (1-3), De Zerbi delivered an electric press conference where he said he was already ready to leave OM. Selected excerpts.

They're second in the table and he's freaking out. Imagine being 13th

I see this as Marseille issue rather than a Zerbi. Look how many coaches they go through. Its ridiculous.

I will certainly be celebrating his downfall if & when it comes.
