Robert Lewandowski

I wonder if we could do a cut price dead for Lewandowski, Reus, Bender and Gundogan? Take them all off their hands with minimal fuss.

Flick the kellogs off your face mate, you fell asleep in your cereal there.

I'd rather Rooney up top and Gundogan in the midfield.

Seriously, another striker doesn't make sense at all unless Rooney is leaving or dropping to midfield. I'd rather him leave than be dropped to midfield.

Why?

You'd rather sell him to one of our rivals than keep him?

Don't get it I'm afraid.

I agree I don't like seeing him drop deep all the time, but I'd rather he was dropping deep for us than scoring goals for one of our rivals.

We are not Arsenal. Plus if we are buying a striker like Lewandowski.. then wouldn't that imply we consider Rooney inferior.

I didn't say that. I assume we wouldn't sell to a rival, if he's sold it'll likely be to PSG or Bayern, someone abroad.

Scenarios in order of preference:
1) Keep Rooney, buy a midfielder or two
2) Sell Rooney, buy a striker and a midfielder
3) Move Rooney to midfield, buy another striker and no midfielder

Sorry, by rival I meant CL rival. I can't imagine he would be sold within England, although I don't expect him to be sold anyway.

Rooney is not a midfielder for the last time! Clearly everyone wants to sign Lewandowski on here! but who do people want to sell or are we just ignoring that aspect on here. I think we should be focusing on the midfield as we already have 4 quality strikers who we should rotate in their positions rather than playing them on the wings or in midfield. We should concentrate on improving the midfield as that is our weakness!

IF Rooney is sold I'd assume its either because Sir Alex thinks we will be better with the players we're bringing in or Rooney wants to leave. I'll trust his judgement there, he'll obviously be going to a Champions League team though.

No confirmation on a transfer or anything from Klopp.

He expects Lewandowski to play at Dortmund next season, tells everyone to relax and be calm. "There are a lot of quality players that we are speaking to. We'll either have good players next season or bags of cash to replace them."

That's the reason why I don't think they will become like Arsenal. They haven't been scared to spend to replace the players they lose right away, like they showed with Gundogan to replace Sahin and Reus to replace Kagawa. Just like this summer they'll probably get Dzeko and one of Isco or Eriksen to replace Lewandowski and Gotze. Very smart IMO. Change your style slightly but replace players with others of maybe not as good but potentially very good. Unlike Arsenal, selling Van Persie and replacing him with Giroud and getting Arteta to replace Fabregas

Obviously the midfield is our weakness, but I wouldn't be too surprised if this did happen. Rooney's been playing more and more in midfield, and it could be a sign that SAF see's him there in the future. Welbeck is probably better as a winger than a striker considering he can't score, or doesn't ever look to be a goal threat, so that would leave us with Van Persie and Hernandez as strikers to lead our line. Someone posted the lineup of a diamond with Rooney and Cleverley in midfield, and Kagawa behind the front 2 of Lewandowski and Van Persie and I think it could be a viable option, because both are very capable of roaming to the wings and provinding width for the others, and both offer fantastic hold up play. The more I've seen Lewandowski lately, the more I've liked the look of him and the game against Real Madrid was just perfect from him so I've really warmed to the idea of him coming here

Also, just noticed this, but Lewandowski has 35 goals in 43 appearances this season
RVP is on 28 in 44, Falcao is on 31 in 35, Cavani is on 32 in 39 and Ibra is on 32 in 41 for comparison's sake. Quite good.

Why are people suddenly so intent on selling Rooney on here?
Before this game 90% of the people on here weren't even thinking of it, now Lewandowski scores 4 against Real and all of a sudden we have no need for Rooney, sell him and get Lewandowski to replace him. What is it with you lot?

Jesus! Falcao is monster in front of goal.

EDIT: That's a completely unbalanced side you've just named. We need wingers.

I think most people are just saying the only way it would make any sense for all these Lewandowski rumors to be true is if someone is leaving, Rooney is probably the most likely. We just signed RvP, Welbeck came through the youth system, and Hernandez is seemingly happy enough to be a squad player currently.

Insane isn't it?

Maybe Rooney will move permanently into central midfield, that's the only reason, other than him leaving for this transfer.

Rooney is a crappy midfielder compared to the top midfielders around. He might be able to do a decent job against Watford in the League Cup as a midfielder, but he'd get raped against better opposition. He's a massive liability as a midfielder in the big games.

And Sweinsteiger was a winger being played in CM. So what?

And Alan Smith was a Striker being played CM. So what?

You have to look at each case individually.. Rooney just doesn't have the knack for me at CM.

What do you suggest will happen if we end up getting Lewandowski then? I hope Rooney doesn't leave, so I can see something like that happening. It gets the best out of the two strikers and Kagawa, but with that lineup we'd also have Van Persie, Lewandowski, Kagawa and Rooney all providing width occasionally, not like proper wingers though.
I agree that we'd be better off with wingers in a 4-2-3-1 type formation, but if Lewandowski comes in and Rooney stays (like I hope he does), what options do we have?

The signs have been encouraging so far. Clearly there is room for improvment but you'd be silly to write it off.

Actually it was the other way around Schweinsteiger always preferred to play in the center but got shifted on the wing when he broke into the Bayern team.

You could always see he was talented but he somehow seemed to stagnate on the wing and simply wasn't fast enough for a winger imo.

It was van Gaal who finally realized that Schweinsteiger wasn't a winger and put him back into his favorite position in the center.

So essentially he was miss used when played out wide and came back to his "natural" position in the center.

Rooney has done perfectly well in 2 games he has played in CM recently. Whether he can play there long term and in big games remains to be seen though.

Yeah, doubt we are interested anyway. SAF already said that 4 strikers give him enough problems as it is.

Didnt Fergie confim our interest in him though? Seems odd that we drool over any given player linked with us in the media, yet we doubt that we're interested in a player that Fergie has commented on.

Where did SAF confirm our interest?

We went in for him along with Kagawa before Van Persie last summer but Dortmund said no.

Use google.

"Big signings? You are normally talking about forwards but it's complicated enough as it is with the forwards I've got,” Ferguson said.

On his interest in Lewandowski, he added: "Yeah, but Bayern Munich are strong with that too.

"We just have to wait and see where we are in terms of if we win the league. Then it may be different."

Oh those Sunday conference quotes. Classic SAF. Take from that what you want too.

Seemed to me watching the video that he was playing around with the questions about Lewandowski rather than confirming that he wanted to sign him this summer. That part of winning the league and it being different is bit of a giveaway.

Then we'll be arguing about how we would translate those quotes though, and something tells me we would never agree when going down that road :D

FFS, it's going to be another summer with no midfielders coming in, this is getting fecking ridiculous now.

What does Fergie mean by if we win the league? Why would it make a difference if we signed this guy or not?
