Hazard had 14 goals and 9 assists last year in the PL, Sanchez had 16 goals and 8 assists. So 23 goals/assists and 24 goals/assists respectively. Mahrez with 14 goals and 10 assists is already on par with that after 25 games.

Bull.

They signed Mahrez for £400k two seasons ago and he's done nothing until this season. Had we signed him we'd have pissed our pants, written him off and called him a Bebe before he got good. For every Mahrez there's 50 transfers that don't pan out and we shouldn't be adopting a completely scattergun approach when we have the money to buy proven quality.

In fact, I'd argue till the cows come home that our transfer activity under Van Gaal/Woodward has been broadly excellent, with the notable exception of Di Maria and Falcao when we have bought we've bought well but, more importantly imo, when we haven't bought we've been vindicated. Case in point, the collective Caf meltdown over Otamendi/Pedro, who have both been pretty shite.
Spot on.

What we think his current market value is?
considering his initial cost to them, and the likelihood that, whatever happens this year they wont be in this situation again, i reckon they would sell at 40m. for one season of absolutely outstanding form leading to a league title perhaps.

25-30million but then other teams might bump the price up. He might be worth £45 million to his club - on current form, but it's a silly price and he might not replicate his form elsewhere. I think he would but hopefully we don't see too many stupid figures banded about

Are you guys serious about the 40 million figure? That is pretty high. I was thinking of something around 15-18 million.
You think hes worth 3m more than Andros Townsend and Jonjo Shelvey?

There's no way he's costing less than Schneiderlin, not with the amount of goals and assists he has this season.

The new TV deal coming in means that every team in the Premier League can afford to hold out for silly money for their players. Mahrez is likely to win POTY so his price will be absurd.

I think his value is around £25-30 million personally.

I've really enjoyed watching him play this season.

He's not going for less than 40/50 million... Heck, they probably won't even want to sell him for that, unless he pushes for the move himself.

I actually hope he stays, if for just one more season.

Leicester will become a team attracting good talent now, maybe a little like Stoke have done, where they can push the boat. I think it'll be a shame if the likes of Mahrez who have played such a pivotal part in this achievement move on. It would be nice for them all to taste the Champions League with Leicester City.

In today's market with all the TV money floating around I think this is an accurate assessment. Especially if they end up winning the league or at least getting into the CL, his price will shoot up a notch again.

Well I guess my mark was totally wrong but isn't that almost the price Di Maria went for?

I certainly rate Mahrez a lot so I don't think it's completely ridiculous but wow that's a high price based on 1.5 season of good football.
We are apparently bidding 45 million pounds on an 18 year old who has had twenty games or so under his belt. Benteke cost the scousers 32.5 million.

It's a seller's market.

the question is whether he can maintain the form till the end of the season and from then on, he would be exactly what we need on the right wing and wouldn't cost fortune even though after this season his price will be inflated..

I can't see him going for anyhthing less than 40m. We can offer higher wages than Leicester, but they hardly need the money and they can offer CL footy. Mahrez is probably the best right winger we can get. He is better than Mané, at least on par to Griezmann, and better than Sané.

As much as it would be nice for Leicester to keep their players and add some quality for the CL next season, I think we'd be stupid to not go for Mahrez. The best we can get, quite easily.

Just hope he wins the league with them first.

Funny that someone thought he was worth 15m

As much as I like Mahrez, Griezmann should be one of our primary targets this summer.

I think they are different players. Griezmann is more like a second striker while Mahrez is a winger. Agree that Griezmann should be our main target, but he could play behind the striker and Mahrez as our right winger. Or a !front of 3 with Martial-Griezmann-Mahrez could be another option.

If we don't finish top 4 I don't think we should have another window where our targets are Bale and Griezmann and co only to miss out and pay big for average in the last few weeks. I'd rather bring in a Mahrez and move on.

We definitely can win things with a front line of Martial-Griezmann-Mahrez

Bale isn't coming here.... Woodward needs to come to terms with that. Griezmann will come here imo.... The only question is would he come to a team that doesn't have champions league football.

We should be bidding for both.

Serious question. Should Leicester win the league and United finish outside of the top 4, and for arguments sake LVG stays in the job, would he want to come? He could potentially get a better offer or just stick it out with Leicester for another year.

We would have to throw a psg/Chinese amount of cash at him and his agent (Woodward will have no one but himself to blame)

As you said, he will have more than a few offers to choose from plus he would be leaving a champions league side to play in the europa league.

Personally I think us getting him outside the top 4 is a non starter considering every top team in the competition would want him but whatever
my point is this. I'd rather a realistic Mahrez if fans think we are too good for him and need better we'll never rise again.

If we get Jose, he will have the pulling power (and Ed will have the cash) for us to get players like Mahrez and Griezmann, even if we don't have champions league footie next year.

If we keep LVG (or promote Giggs) we are right up shit Creek.

35 million - 40 million is what I'd class him as however Leicester don't need to sell him. I mean for that amount of money who can they buy who'd make a bigger impact than Mahrez currently is? I wouldn't care if we paid 45 million for him, given he continues his form. I do have doubts whether he can carry it on next season but in a way I'd love to see him stay at Leicester and do the same again.

As I've said before, the money isn't coming out of my pocket and the club already charge the fans enough, so as long as they sign the correct players I don't give a toss how much they cost. I would happily have Mahrez at United. Of course he could be a one season wonder scenario, that's the chance you take, but on the other hand he could be a very special player for a time to come. For anyone to suggest he isn't good enough for us is madness, as his pace + guile is exactly the type of player we could use..

Mahrez would potentially bring a whole new dimension to our attack, specifically the right hand side. That said I would love Griezmann too, but don't see why it has to be one or the other. At the end of the day Griezmann can also play through the middle just as Martial can play out wide. An all round versatile, pacey attack would provide a level of excitement missing from United's front line for a good few seasons.

How much discussion on here was there last year and through the summer window regarding Harry Kane being a one season wonder? plenty by my recollection. Well he's gone on again this season to show the doubters wrong, so there is no reason why Mahrez can't do the same.

Mahrez is ripping up the PL and is arguably the leagues best player this season. Why people must look to someone doing the same abroad is beyond me. Like buying Di Maria and ignoring the 3-4 players actually doing it under our noses.

If he wishes to leave surely Leciester will respect that and his desired destination.
30-35m max to an English team, reasons being
  • he isn't english
  • was bought for a nominal fee
  • will hopefully contribute to Leicester's greatest feat but are more likely to battle relegation next season
  • its been a fun ride but they are no way equal to the big teams and they must know this, so it won't be selling to your rival
I've a feeling he'll be an even cheaper option for foreign big teams to bolster their attack.

He would be the dream signing. Yes he may miss out on playing in the Champions League, which for a club like Leicester might be too special to miss. But, if we had Mouriniho it would feel like within no time we could be back in it and challenging for it. This may give us the pulling power to get him. That, and the ability to offer silly money and wages for him. He is worth it.

Not sure he's a Mourinho player though. JM would constantly complain that he doesn't track back enough
