Wish I could see him strut in Utd Red but that's unlikely to ever happen now.

Unbelievable player, Leicester City have struck oil with Mahrez, Vardy and Kante.

I'm eating my words on Mahrez. To be honest he looked like a decent player having a real purple patch, but it's clear to see now that he has real quality. Going to be very interesting to see what his next move is and how he handles it.

I'd love us to buy him and Payet and stick them behind Martial.

It may not be an elite level front line, but it would just be drool-worthy to watch.

I don't believe that Payet is anything like United quality. Not even close.

I still can't shake the feeling that if he came here he'd struggle, but I do think a big club will pay a hefty fee for him in the summer.

I agree. You have to be wary of players that turn up out of nowhere at 27. There is almost always some issue with them.

Seriously, this guy is the dog's bollocks. Would have no problem with us signing him. Vardy may get the headlines, but it's Mahrez that's winning them the league.

Mahrez scores goals and makes assists. He is prolific.
Sane, is a young player who may be good enough to play for a top team...maybe. Personally, I don't see it, but time will prove me wrong or right. I think Januzaj is just as good. And Januzaj is certainly not a first team player for MUFC.

No, unfortunately. Not even close.

Just goes to show where we should have been spending our money instead of trying to convince the world we're still up there with the biggest and best. Genuinely, there are a number of players signed by smaller clubs last few seasons that prove this.

Bull.

They signed Mahrez for £400k two seasons ago and he's done nothing until this season. Had we signed him we'd have pissed our pants, written him off and called him a Bebe before he got good. For every Mahrez there's 50 transfers that don't pan out and we shouldn't be adopting a completely scattergun approach when we have the money to buy proven quality.

In fact, I'd argue till the cows come home that our transfer activity under Van Gaal/Woodward has been broadly excellent, with the notable exception of Di Maria and Falcao when we have bought we've bought well but, more importantly imo, when we haven't bought we've been vindicated. Case in point, the collective Caf meltdown over Otamendi/Pedro, who have both been pretty shite.

This just boggles my mind. Sometimes you get a player for 5-10m and he turns out to be a bargain but Mahrez cost Leicester less than a million pounds!

Yep.

BVB did the same with Kagawa. I think he cost 250k, and then became one of the best players in the league, and was their best player in the second half of the season when they won the last league title.

It's incredible how good he is. I can't see us getting him though.

Mahrez had also spent half of his career in the 4th division and had a whopping 6 goals in 60 appearances in Ligue 2. Fecking imagine if a top club signed him on the back of that.

Feck sake. How did Leicester unearth his hidden talent ?

Kante is the one who is a definite big club player in my opinion but Mahrez is definitely worth a punt.. I think his passing is pretty special.

He's the player Januzaj should model himself on.

Skillful, great technique, good passing (vision and weight) and drifts all over the pitch.

And he's pretty lightweight too.

To be honest I expect that they are almost as surprised as everybody else is. Their scouts obviously saw something in him, but they can't possibly have thought that he would be as good as this. It's just one of those weird cases where a player suddenly seems to "get" it, like they just understand what they need to be to maximise how effective they are, and how to play their role in the team to perfection.

just goes to show you how football is unpredictable. He is probably the perfect example of my theory how a popular comparison is the most ridiculous thing you can ever read on a football forum. And that comparison is when you say how x player is more talented then the y one because he was better at certain age.

Initially, I was unsure whether his league form was due to a crazy purple patch or not so didn't want to buy into the hype prematurely.

His performances in the last few months are suggesting that he is the real deal though, he was excellent again today vs City. I really don't think he'd look out of place in our team and wouldn't be disappointed if we were to go in for him at some point.

Definitely up there with Payet at this point as the most entertaining dribbler.
Payet was definitely in consideration. Dembele too. Both of them combine their upper body physique with their dribbling through the centre, but I think Mahrez just has that lightweight ability to ghost past his man when he drops the shoulder that gives him the edge.

Brilliant post.

I think people should also recognise that Mahrez has also been this good for much of last season. His great form definitely didn't start in August.
