Right Winger... Who do we go for?

Griezmann is coming. I believe this to be true so it is true. Sign up Pulisic for all the monies. Attackers for the next 5 - 10 years: Lukaku, Martial, Rashford, Griezmann and Pulisic.

God, the run of titles and Champions League trophies is going to be glorious.
The good thing about Pulisic is versatility. Anywhere behind Lukaku he will provide. Easy to fit in. His strength and balance, ability to win duels for his age is outstanding. He's 10 years younger than Ozil, and I think he's better right now frankly.

Watched the Lyon game and the game against Toulouse this season. He's the real deal and will go for a big, big fee this Summer. Looks ready for a bigger club imo.

He does look a talent. He's very quick, skillful, good long shooting and is solid at free kicks. Only real problem I've seen with him is that he's very one footed. So, more often than not he cuts inside when playing on the right and when he does take the ball out wide, he usually either cuts back onto his left which slows the game down or delivers a sub-par cross with his right foot.

Malcom has scored a goal or provided an assist in 9 of 11 matches. Five goals and five assists in 976 minutes. That's rare production for a 20 year old. Left footed right wing fits seamlessly into JM's favored 4-2-3-1.

I'm just assuming that United's board does not have the intelligence or quality to buy a world class player, so, looking at the mid table teams, Bolasie looks like one of the best options this current bad board could get... Sterling will likely play less and less as Sane and Bernardo Silva adapt more to the league, so maybe him
What is that shite?

 Someone's on a bit of a wind up, I'm sure

Griezmann would be my priority. Its well documented that his Idol is David Beckham I think if we go in for him again then its practically nailed on for him to come.

The rest of the usual suspects have been mentioned here but there is a player in Italy called Simone Verdi who has been called up to the national team who looks absolutely class. He switches between the wings and plays as a number 10 aswell and is very versatile. Hes a natural Left Footer who has incredible ambidexterity, So much so that he takes free kicks and corners with both feet. He has an absolute rocket of a shot and is also very quick, skillful and creative. I honestly think he has what it takes to play here. Hes one of those players who gets you excited because you don't know what hes going to do next. If anyone is interested then here is the typical complimentary Youtube skill show with the terrible music

Still would like to see Robben. For a small fee, for a single year, make an impact like RVP did. He knows Mourinho, he knows the league.

It's too risky ofc with his injury record, but still.

Griezmann won't come in January, so It all depends if we are looking to bring in someone in January who can play in Champions league.

I still want Griezmann but in terms of what we need on the wings I think we need a player whose strength is going on the outside, beating his manand delivering for others. Somebody who keeps the width rather than cuts inside to add some much needed variation to our attack.

The alternative is to get the width from the full-back positions but we would need recruitment there also if that is the case unless Shaw can make a significant breakthrough and Valencia can improve his final ball.

As a change of pace from the standard Griezmann/Malcom/Pulisić suggestions - Oyarzabal can play on both flanks at a high level and even as a forward, and could develop into a Ribéry-esque player in terms of being a tactically astute playmaker as regards passing nous on top of having traditional wide attacker qualities like speed and dribbling ability. Reckon we need a player who's more than someone who just fits the latter mold - and Oyarzabal's ability to sense simple passes and read the game is already quite developed at 20 years of age.

Has a grafter's mentality, too (which is something you won't always find in young attacking players) evidenced by games like this (not the greatest offensive display but showcases his ability to track back and work hard off-the-ball to successfully preserve a lead at the Anoeta against Barcelona):

Also, he's developing into a consistent presence on set pieces with his headers (like the one in the video above, or the most recent one in the Europa League vs. FK Vardar):

Has been quite good in the early going through the current season (in terms of both performances and statistical output with 5 goals and 2 assists in 6 appearances):

And, he has a relatively decent reported release clause ~€60 million - which is not prohibitive when you consider the prices for highly rated young attackers in the market:
With a 60 million euro release clause keeping the youngster in San Sebastian, the Anoeta would like no one better to bag a winning goal against Real Madrid when they meet on Saturday.

Reckon we must find a way to further snap up some of the better rated La Liga based young-ish players when Madrid and Barcelona aren't overly interested in them. That approach has served us well with the signing of De Gea and Bailly - and other clubs in the past with the likes of Agüero, Silva, Mata, etc.

Miss those days when a winger could go on the outside with pace and come inside, take on the full back and provide quality crosses and passes. Fed up with these idiots cutting in all the time with their pathetic left foot. These types of wingers are truly dead as the game has changed. Can't think of anyone with those qualities who is available without breaking the bank and would improve the team drastically.

Yes Oyarzabal looks a good player now and he will improve. Pulisic and the english guy Jadon Sancho look quite good also.

A bit strange, but I though he was mainly a LB, or am I mixing him up with somebody else? Whenever I've seen him he played as a winger, but I though it was temporary. He is very good nonetheless, one of those players that will pop up everywhere.

Dunno, mate. Maybe that's the impression you got with his tendency to track back every so often. :)

Great write up of him. I love San Sebastian, go there every year, so have become enamoured with the team. They've created a great squad, with Mikel and Odriozola, they've got a nice Basque base as well!

I think your assessment of how he always sees the simple pass and reads the game so well is right. He never seems very frantic, which can be the case with tricky wingers. Very calm.

I hope we would be taking a view like that as well, even some Valencia players. They're looking a good outfit, albeit if a PSG player looks like their best player.

Yep, I like Gonçalo Guedes as well. There was a period of time where it looked like he wasn't going to develop as well as advertised after the initial euphoria at Benfica subsided, but like you pointed out - he's been really good on loan at Valencia from Paris Saint-Germain. La Liga is a great league to assess attackers (especially from a creative standpoint) given the general technical level of the players on show and the consistency with which space is closed down:
“It’s a question of space,” he said. “A Spanish-style footballer, like [David] Silva or [Mesut] Özil, if they can find two seconds to think, will see the pass because there’ll be space. … In Spain, reducing space is worked on more. In England, it’s fast, but you can find that space if you are a good player.”

Plus, and a lot of the imports have transitioned smoothly to the Premier League over the years - as long as they can adapt to life in England and the more robust nature of the game.

Timely shout-out too, because he scored another golazo vs. Sevilla:

As an aside, Soler is another intriguing option as a versatile midfielder considering that we were linked with him in the past. Has a long way to go before he reaches a consistently good level, but in terms of potential there are shades of Rubén Baraja and Koke in his game.

Something so satisfying about seeing a finish like that.

Yeah, you can see they don't get involved in the physical battles as much in Spanish football, but the closing of space and quick play develops them, physically, very differently. I imagine that's why we've seen someone like Roque Mesa look quite poor at Swansea, as it doesn't quite translate here.

Cant say I've seen much of Soler, but I've heard he looks talented. Might have to keep an eye out for him a bit more now. What actually is his position? From early reports, people said CM, but now I'm seeing he's been playing the RW role - like you say, similar to Koke.

Suso's my pick. He, like most, does like to cut inside (he's got a good shot on him and is a very creative player with excellent passing) but is also very good at keeping his width, capable of beating his man out wide, and his crosses are dangerous.

As is the case with a certain profile of Spanish midfielders (like Koke, and Saúl - who also played as a defender at Rayo Vallecano), Soler can slide into pretty much every midfield position given the completeness of his game - from a technical, tactical and physical standpoint. Reckon his long terms future lies as a box-to-box or central midfielder (much like the aforementioned duo), but at this stage of his career - he can play as a #10 given his eye for the final ball, right midfielder, left midfielder, energetic box-to-box, and central midfielder. Considering that that we've been linked with Milinković-Savić as a versatile midfield option in recent weeks and months, Soler could be a decent alternative.

I think right now might be the best time to sign him because he's not a very established player in La Liga, and on the national team front: he hasn't had a great tournament with the U-21s (like Ceballos in the summer) and hasn't made forays in the senior setup - so his profile isn't inflated and presumably, there won't be a lot of competition for his signature. Reckon we missed a trick by not targeting Koke when we signed De Gea from Atlético, or Saúl when Phil Neville scouted him, and given Soler's overall skillset, he could develop into a similar caliber of player under the right conditions.

On that subject, Soler made a comment on his favorite position in an interview:
Q/What position do you prefer to play in?

A/ I like playing near the penalty area. This year I’ve played as a ‘6’, a 8 and 10. Being versatile is good for the coach, as long as you’re playing it’s always a good sign.

What is that shite?

I can't forget the failed attempts with managing Di Maria and Falcao, the numerous rumours about Bale and C.Ronaldo(Word is, Moyes asked for them back in 2013) and overpaying for Fellaini and Lindelof. I don't trust the board, simple as that. And what's wrong with taking a look at players from mid table teams ?

First of all, you've contradicted yourself. Failed attempts to sign Bale and Ronaldo, but we've also overpaid for mistake clubs players. That's all bad business.

Nothing wrong with mistake players if you feel they're ready to make the step up.

The issue is you saying we can't sign world class players when we've signed Zlatan and Pogba last summer. We've never really signed world class players anyway, but we can attract that type of player still. For now anyway.

Iv been saying it for a few seasons that we need a proper right winger. We put players like Mata and Mkhi out there and we all know there no wingers. Iv lost count how many times this season our midfield have been looking for a through ball on the wide right and its simply not there. I would like to see either Martial or Rashford given a chance on the right.

Was Zlatan still really world class though ? For me his prime ended after the 2009-10 season, he was not at his peak already by the time he signed with Milan. Pogba is arguably not a finished product. When I say world class I mean a Hazard, a Kane, a Neymar, etc. Players either in their peak now or very close to it. We can still attract very good players for sure, but the last time we signed someone ready to set the game on fire by the first game, was 2012 RVP.

Strange that you'd attack the board with that criticism when we rarely ever have done so. Last time was 5 and a half years ago. Before that, when?

Really really hope he go hard for Ozil and Griezz come Jan. I know Jose talks about the difficulty of buying in Jan etc etc. But he also spoke of the need of 6 transfer windows to get his team. January is one of those 6. Both can be purchased realistically, Ozil and a cut price and Griezz would cost the same as he would in the summer. Put them two as two rotating positions, one as a 10 one as a inverted right winger, similar to how Jose is trying to get Mata to play. The drive and energy and uplift we would get going into the crucial final stage of the season would be huge. Come on Jose!

How about A.Yarmolenko? he looks like proper winger, who can stretch the play or cut in.Last time I watched him was when he played against Spurs in CL and he really played well.

I always felt it was a weird and wrong move for Mourinho to not go after a RW. Lucas Moura has to be available with Neymar and Mbappe at the club, and probably not for a skyhigh price either. He's one of the fastest wingers around and is very direct.
But he's not that good or consistent enough, and there is every chance he will need time to adapt to PL. he can't dislodge Di Maria when that guy was in his bad patch.

At the rate we're going, Draxler wouldn't be a bad choice even his attitude is a problem.

We'll sign Griezmann.

I still think Mou will deploy him on the right, as a forward, initially. He's more dynamic that Mkhi and (especially) Mata.

This is why, I think, we didn't sign another winger. He thinks Griezmann can do that job (and it's ON).

We can then go 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1

Went to Dortmund this summer.

I didn't keep up with the Perisic transfer saga over the summer.

Why exactly were we unable to secure him, again?

Marcos Acuña. Can play on the left or right wing. Just moved to Sporting from Racing, so don't know if he'll move so quickly again.
