Right Winger... Who do we go for?

If Mkhitaryan does play on the right then the RB has to be very offensive to take advantage of all the space. Varela is the best option, then Valencia. A Mkhitaryan and Darmian right side won't work at all.
As it was at Dortmund. Attacking full-backs, as it used to be at United before we went into decline.

So really we should move on from talking about wingers and attacking midfielders who are now secondary in importance since we've made signings and move on to talking about right backs because i doubt many of us are convinced by our options there. Valencia is our best but is frequently injured, and Darmian lacks pace. Fabinho was linked with us a while since, he looks a good player.

Serge Aurier

That's actually a good shout with Mourinho as manager. He loves Ivorian players and he might give him a chance after what has happened this season. He's also exactly his type of full-back. Almost forgot about him since his off-field issues.

What happened to our interest in Felipe Anderson?

He's had a difficult season, Lazio in general struggled and he had quite a few bad games. Another player I think Mourinho would appreciate for his work ethic IMO, but he'd be a massive gamble at this point.

They've sold Van Der Wiel, Aurier will be first choice unless I'm missing something.

Mario Gaspar would be a solid addition, great at going forward and solid defensively, also played alongside Bailly. He has a ridiculously powerful shot and if I remember correctly he scored a bicy vs England in a friendly?

Probably, yes. Sabaly is also back from his loan to Nantes. He had a good season there, apparently.

They just signed Muenier, the Belguim RB.
Ah, I didn't know that.

Sabaly is supposed to be quite a talent but will be back up for the role.

Not seen much of Gaspar mate.

More of a right sided attacker than a pure winger, and he's probably going to extend his contract with Dortmund (right now, he's 'focusing on the Armenian national team' - apparently), but with just 1 season remaining on the current deal, maybe Raiola can be convinced to agree to an Ibrahimović ++ double whammy. :)

A lot of fantasy transfer formations are starved of genuine creativity, with an overload of goalscorers - vying for the statistics - which can be an unsustainable model to build upon. Just think that the emphasis should instead be on bringing in atleast one top provider - so to speak, who can look up, and seek out passes to better positioned team-mates (more often than not), instead of always going on goal himself.

With the way we might be lining up next season, Zlatan + Martial (who will hopefully take the next step in his evolution) should be the primary goalscoring tandem for the team, with other creative influences feeding those two - and there are very few superior creative threats around these days than Mkhitaryan - who worked beautifully with Aubameyang and co. this season - like, comparable to Müller + Lewandowski level good (though Mkhitaryan is probably the most underrated of the lot). Has quality defensive workrate - and Mourinho generally prefers to have slightly imbalanced flanks to provide a sounder defensive structure off the ball. He can be that, in contrast with the more tactically free left flank.

One of the most important things our attack is missing right now is a 'brain' (eg. the true point forward in an LVG system - who can be the intelligent operator in the attack) - and Mkhitaryan has been exactly that over the past season. And he's in his prime too, so should be able to hit the ground running - and maybe sustain that level for 4-5 seasons.

Mourinho, is that you?

I missed that one. I was going to suggest Van Der Wiel as an alternative but obviously thats off the cards now. We could go with Mensah, although i'd have thought he will eventually be a CDM.

If Mkhitaryan ends up being a better No.10 than right winger for us, I guess we would sign a RW next summer. I prefer to wait 2 or 3 years, then try to sign Ousmane Dembele. At that time, Mkhitaryan will be around 30 years old and Dembele 22.

Early doors, but I still maintain we need a different option at right wing than Mkhitaryan and Lingard, who both like to roam inside and find pockets of space.

Instead, as I mentioned before, we should be looking for someone who keeps the width like Valencia did in his better days.

I've been very critical of Lingard in the past but suspect he may play a fairly important role for us this season.

It would also appear Mou fancies Mata on the right too (albeit based on 1 game) so along with Miki I imagine we're fairly well covered for now.

Sadio Mane would have been good instead of Mkhitaryan.

Agreed as an out and out winger, Manè's skillset suits the Prem better but Mkhitaryan can cover more positions, can act as backup to Mata or Rooney.

Mane on the right, Mkhitaryan in the middle, and Rooney out the door would have been perfect. But we can't have it all. Mkhitaryan on the right will do well once he's up to full fitness and starting regularly.

If we get the squad shaped for a 4-3-3 by next summer I hope the 6 options for the front 3 roles will look like this.

CF - Ibra/Rashford
LW - Martial/Lingard
RW - Mkhitaryan/New Signing

Mane can also play as CAM/No.10

Agree with you about Mane suits the Premier League better than Mkhitaryan. Also, Mane is 3 years younger so he can improve a bit. I would like to see Miki as No.10, he could be great for us in that position.

Mane had every attribute we need for RW. Often Valencia provides all the attacking stimulus from that side, and it's like we play two #10s and no RW.
Lingard is the best right flank option we have unless Rashford is converted to that role. Lingard will use his pace wide along the touchline providing us with width. He can pull out some wicked crosses when he's on song. But like Mkhitaryan and Mata, he likes to operate centrally.
I don't see the need to panic at this point. Jose is in the first stage of his team building. By next summer either Lingard/Rashford will have the role covered, or someone will emerge from the reserves like Olosunde (?). Or, Jose will buy one.

Lets give Mkhitaryan a chance shall we?

I agree

We have plenty now in that area, plus jose wants to see what memphis can do which I agree with, if he gains confidence and grows has a player, and with martial in this team we have 2 very exciting attacking forwards, plus Mkh who we just have bought, CM and defence is the club's priority, not more attacking players

Haven't you guys just really bought Mkhitaryan? Just wait for him to start a few matches after considering to buy a new RW jeez. Also, why is no one naming Mata to play there after he actually did the first game?

I suppose Mané is flavour of the month again after the Arsenal game...

Mkhitaryan and Lingard will be more than sufficient for the right wing.

I would like a right winger in the same mould as Montero/Coman, someone who can provide the width, it would also give Martial more freedom to get in the box.

Won't be this summer though.

I totally agree. It would be great to see a winger like Coman/Dembele. Which quality RW could be available?

Just saw an article saying sanchez will be an upgrade on Martial. Yet another article focusing on the left. What about the gaping sanchez shaped hole on our right currently occupied by a no 10 in Mata? On the left we have martial and Marcus for one spot. I feel if we were to sign a wide player it should be right forward / winger. I guess if we still have a vacancy on the right it's because miki wasn't the right player for that position and Lingard is just not that good.

Why not upgrade for the right? People talk like Alexis can only play left wing

Very true. Think people forget how good Sanchez was on the right. First time i saw him for Chile in 2010, he played on the right, and his dribbling skill and close control looked so impressive when he was naturally able to put his body between the defender and the ball. Developed into a fantastic goalscorer from the left, of course, but he was very effective on the right. What an option he would be for us on either wing, or even behind the striker.

This will be the key position to buy in for the attack next summer, it's the weak link right now.
