Richard Arnold secretly filmed whilst speaking to supporters

PR stunt? For feck sakes lads, can we try to spin something positive once in a while. For me that felt very relaxed and genuine.

Given Overmars resigned, no.
I'd echo concerns about how he handled that Overmars situation but trying to stay on the point I assume you're trying to make, I do think his background makes some difference to me. Football route rather than a business route.

Cool, happy to be wrong, my understanding of the situation is obviously incorrect.

A bunch of dishevelled looking slobs turn up to harass a man at his house like lowlives, film him on the quiet, and then release the videos. One revels in all the attention, and makes quite a claim that he hasnt backed up with any video posts. Then another of said scruffs is annoyed at this, while at the same time loving all the attention on his own timeline, and now they are bickering among themselves throwing out threats to each other. Utterly embarrassing that these fools somehow think of themselves as the "proper" United fans too. State.

Of course it’s a fecking PR move…

How did he get the info, from his house, that a few Utd fans were going to protest outside his house… and knew what pub they were inside… and who they were in the pub!?

Somebody knew who also had his personal contact details? Cmon.

Then he goes out and it ends up with you all thinking he’s a ‘man of the people’, who ‘got the beers in with the lads’ - a right good bloke, humouring the plebs like.

Let’s see how you all feel about Arnold in a few seasons time…

It then ends up that the Glazers have found a way to speak to the fans while generating pity and explaining why money isn’t being spent - how incredibly fortuitous for them.

FFS cmon. This is the same outcome of nearly all expensive PR - to come across as ‘one of the people’.

Of course it is a PR stunt.

His job is to back the manager to do his job. Transfers and whatever else he needs.
Then he should get back to his parasite bosses and stay out of sight.

Absolutely no desire to have a side here.

The protestors are weirdos and Arnold is a cnut.
Why’s he a cnut? Seems to want the best for the club and is aware of the limitations he’s working under. Certainly not his fault the owners are twats, nor his desire to take the job. Would you rather we got someone who doesn’t give a fig and is just there to take the money?

This is a pretty daft take to be honest.

Chances are this group mentioned their plans to a journalist to get those juicy photos of the protest and a few quid. This journalist/paparazzi mentions it to a pal in the industry who happens to speak to Arnold, who now knows.

Walking into your local and seeing a large group who are blatantly out of place in such a likeminded and affluent area and it’s very obvious who he’s looking for. Particularly since they inevitably spotted him and started staring at him and whispering to each other.

Not everything is a conspiracy. Sometimes things just are exactly as they seem on the surface.

I think those are really charitable assumptions, is all.

Dim folks loves a good conspiracy.

Sometimes I truly hate being a United supporter.

We've some absolute knuckle draggers in our midst sadly.

What's all the commotion about ? I don't see any worthwhile here.

Respect to Arnold

Those morons have now broadcast to Barca that that we have loads of money for frenkie de jong which goes against the 120 million briefing that had been put out last week. That’ll help with negotiations you bell ends

Said exactly the same to a mate yesterday.

And what's more ironic is these goons continue to bang on about dividends and there being no funds for transfers... apparently.

If these are the Red Issue bellends

There were apparently a dozen or so who went out to Arnold's house - and they don't appear to be on exactly the same page (there's handbags now on Twitter - the bloke who filmed it being under attack from others who were at the meeting).

But - yes - it would seem that some of them were RI types.

“Inhumane” if a video emerged of them chanting at his daughter I’d agree. They just filmed their conversation with him? Obviously wrong but to be honest after the season we just had every United fan deserves answers even if the method isn’t morally condoned.

I personally wouldn’t give a shit about “betraying” anyone upstairs at our club. What’s worse is working people paying up to £150 a pop to watch a bunch of millionaire pricks who have turned what used to be their absolute pride and joy into a complete laughing stock.

You never secretly film the guy who got the beers in. Everyone who has ever downed a pint brought by another person knows this. It's the unwritten rule, the thing you simply don't do.

It might have been forgivable had the guy holding the recording device returned the favour and brought a round before he started filming, in a "buy them a drink before you feck them" sort of way. But that's not the case is it.

A rare good take in this thread.

The fellas responsible are getting reamed on twitter and tbh I can't feel sorry for them. They may have compromised that man's career in the long term and in the short term at least strung out the De Jong deal because you know Barca will use that.

Had to laugh at the shot Arnold took at woodward when he said "do you really want me buying the players, look where that got us in the past" but it tells us that woodward was shafting our past managers with buying players that where not the choice of the manager

Have you a link?

No idea why people would protest outside his house, like thats going to achieve anything

According to twitter Richard Arnold found out about the protest and what pub the group was meeting so went to them instead.

Agreed. This is pretty weird. I agreed with the protest outside OT and even defended the people who protested inside OT before the Liverpool game but not at people's actual houses.

Seems like a decent bloke. Also protesting at someone's home is a scumbag thing to do even if we lose every game of the season.

but it tells us that woodward was shafting our past managers with buying players that where not the choice of the manager

I don't think that's what he means.

More that Woodward was directly involved in the transfer deals (whereas Arnold leaves it entirely to others). That doesn't mean he picked the players - and forced them on the manager. There really is very little to indicate that this ever happened.

Remember the first time I lined up to enter Old Trafford. A drunk fan proceeded to call me and my three friends a suicide bomber. Not one person intervened, was so depressing.

Also come on people, are you that obsessed with conspiracy theories that you think nothing natural ever happens? Claiming it's staged or a PR stunt? If they wanted to do things to communicate to the fans, they would probably set up a bigger group meeting with fans who are relevant, not a group of inbred twats who were planning on protesting at this guys house (and over what ffs, a lack of signings by mid June in his first summer? )

Richard Arnold did a bold move coming out there and speaking to them directly instead of having them come to his house around his family. He gave his honest assessment of the past with a few reasons why it'll change under him. Why not just show some respect and appreciation for what was just a very good thing for him to do?

Because there are careers where being a cnut is a trait critical to success.
I mean not really. It's just a career and somebody doing their job well enough that they move up the ladder. Besides what would being a cnut mean? That you have to fire the odd person? That's just standard life. There's nothing to suggest that Arnold is some shady person that did shady things to be where he is. Why start off with just disliking them because they are successful? Comes across as very bitter/jealous imo.

It does to cnuts.

Jesus, that is awful :(

That's the sad thing about football supporters, there's far, far too many idiots around the game.

It's a "working class" game and sadly too many people with poor education involve themselves going to games and "supporting" teams.

Fair play to Arnold for anwering questions and buying drinks for a bunch of cnuts who were threatening to protest outside the man's home. To go and record him after agreeing to have this meeting sums up what I increasingly think about large sections of the Utd fanbase.

“Doesn’t care” but is off to the pub to get pissed. Sound.

Cba with the negativity yet was willing to go bother Mr Arnold at his home.

Feck off with the “feel sorry for me” me spiel.

The sheer irony in these guys complaining about club leaks while actively recording this conversation in secret and leaking it online is insane  :wenger:
