Gaming Retro Video Game Thread

I'll take a stab in the dark and say that Redlambs remembers those ;)

For me out of all the demos it was all about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Spent bloody ages on that, and then subsequently on all of the full games after that.
Tony Hawks! Man I played the 2nd one inside out.

Found the shooter I was thinking of C12: Final Resistance.

Rollcage needs to come back, or to the PSN.

Yeah, Kurushi was odd, but interesting. Nightmare Creatures was the demo that freaked me out.

I had some demo I had to send away for, had some third person shooter that was quite good, can't remember the name of it though.

Anyone remember the full home made games from the black psx that'd be on the demo discs? They were very low fi, but some were great, there was this kind of micro machine racer I utterly loved.

Yep, I made some of them. The micro machines one was actually from a fella I helped teach to code and design, it was the perfect way to learn the basics. I wonder whatever happened to him...

I would like to let everyone know that I am starting a video game museum, and will be willing to accept donations.

Used to love the monthy mag to get them, some proper fun games.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Greatest skateboarding game of all time
As precise a fact as there can be. Damn that game was special.

Aye me too. Was it Chicago? I spent days on that game. I still think Warehouse is the best designed level on any platform or genre ever conceived. I used to restart time and time again until I got it perfect flipping over the vert with the secret tape and grinding all the way round, rinse and repeat while listening to The Ernies "Here and Now". Good times.

Oh yes

Nah the demo was of the Warehouse level. Chicago was in THPS 4. I used to get outscored by my mum :( Then I got the full game and nobody stood a chance!

It was definitely Chicago I had on my demo, @2.30?

Oh yeah that's the one I had, but I was thinking it was called Warehouse. I forgot that that was actually a different level.

Warehouse was the first level on the game. Ridiculously good! As much as I liked THPS2 I preferred THPS1 for the absence of manuals. I thought it made a more organic game without all the ridiculous combinations manualling opened up.

I sank hours of my life into Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4....

My mate could get 2million per move on THPS2 without cheats, he shown me his "routes" to do it, and I usually managed pretty megascores too. AWESOME game.

Airport level in Tony Hawks 4 (?) I remember I always used to just race down to a low level somewhere and grind all the way around, thrown in the odd kickflip here and there and I could literally balance it for hours. My friends fecking hated playing that level with me.

Great level, I'd just throw lines starting straight from the start. Grinding elevators and all sorts of sourcery.

I was shit at grinding usually but for some reason I could go for ages at the part on that level where you could literally do a continuous loop around a room, bar I think a little box bit you had to jump for.

Any 1080p games there? The whole collection can go and feck itself if not.

Agreed. The giant turd that it is.

Out of interest though, how much do you reckon all that would be worth?

For a brief second I was considering going through each one and individually pricing them... feck that

I have no idea and wouldn't know where to begin, but if you start with his Gargoyle's Quest, Little Samson, Stadium Events, Megaman 1-6 and Mr Gimmick, then it'd probably be around £2000 just for those.

EDIT: He's got Flintstones Dinosaur Peak, there's another £400.

I can see why you wanted to safely dispose of them.

:D

I'm not sure how I'd be if I actually had any of the really valuable ones. I'd probably be checking them every 10 minutes to make sure they're still there and working properly.

Perfection. And a brilliant review.

Still the greatest Kart racer of all time for me, even though it was often considered a ripoff of Mario Kart.

I spent a lot of my life playing that game. It was brilliant. I even managed to get the whole family playing a few times which was great craic. What a fantastic game that was.

Yeah, it was unbelievably good. I was pretty young, and for ages thought I was brilliant (used to own everybody with the multi-tap and owned Adventure mode until after racing Oxide) - but it was quite some time before I learnt how to powerslide. I seriously have no idea how I didn't know about it for so long, and nobody who played me seemed to know either. Once I knew, I was unstoppable.

The tracks, the short cuts, the weapons, the upgrades, the - just everything. I'm not sure I have any cons, it was just, incredible.
