Retro Football Fantasy Championship

Have people started to decide whether they're going for a 352 or 442 variant yet? I'm still not entirely sure I know how to fit players into a 352 because it's been so uncommon since the turn of the century - if I stuck someone like Beckham out there is it a waste? I've seen a lot of hardworking wingers out there but it just seems strange to play with no fullbacks, essentially.

I was thinking you need to go back to what the players you pick would have been used to. A lot of the English ones are best suited to 4-4-2

Aye I was aiming for that too but the majority of them played in both formations - take Savicevic and Stojkovic, for example, they both played in 352 variations for their entire time at Red Star but then both moved to teams with 4-man defences at Marseille and Milan. England weren't too shabby in '98 with the 352 anyway.

Oh and THM you're supposed to PM after your turn. DE also didn't PM me after his last turn.

6 hours can get difficult with the time differences. What if you're assistant manager doesn't make it in time or your pick has been taken?

I agree with you it could get difficult but I made that decision after due observations, with a purpose and aim in mind. The purpose is to incentivise people to either use the PM system for others to post in their absence or recruit an assistant manager. The aim is to save time for everybody.

If you have an assistant manager, I would advise rotation every 6 hours such that each of you would check every 12 hours. That would ensure that you will not miss your turn.

If you do not have an assistant manager, PM two picks (indicating order of preference) to the managers who have already picked in the current round (note that you will be picking twice before the draft returns to them). If your first choice pick is taken before your turn, your 2nd choice pick will be posted instead. If both your picks are taken, they have to PM me and I will extend 6 hours for you to pick another player.

If for whatever reason, none of them posted on your behalf despite your advance PM, resulting in your pick being taken by a manager after you, I will rewind the draft to your turn for you to take that player.

It is not easy for this to run smoothly for the benefit of everybody so we need everyone's cooperation on this. Thank you for your understanding.

Desert Eagle has been online for the past 45 minutes, should someone PM him? I'm going out shortly

I thought about picking him on my last pass through, I decided on Manuel Sanchis instead.

I have got two good keepers, infact brilliant keepers, that havent been mentioned..

PM for details

TheReligion, we welcome comments pertaining to the players and tactics picked by the managers but anything influencing decisions not yet made by the managers amounts to participation in the game/competition. We can only allow that if you take up an assistant managerial appointment with any of the teams. Anybody would like to appoint TheReligion as their assistant?

Looking pretty dry in the old striker pool...

Was tempted to pick Abedi Pele only so that I could put him as "Pele" up front and get the votes of those who are too lazy to read the team lineup.

Gianluca Pagliuca

The goalkeeper I always played when I was in kickabout with mates. My favorite keeper after Schmeichel and a pretty cool dude.

Fixed the spelling errors. Horse! It's Taffarel, not Tarrafel.

Bebeto

Brazil's fifth highest goalscorer with 39 strikes for the national team.

Right, you're all cnuts. 4-6-0 it is!

Everyone should look at Nani Nana, me at Gio. We are so quick that we can't even PM each other. No point.

The statement in the OP "In this competition, players are considered at the level when they were in their prime" will have a big effect on my voting.

Unless told otherwise I will be not taking longevity or number of caps/apperances into account at all. Just how good the player was when he was at his best.

I forgot to add Bebeto there, my bad.

Every one of my players has played alongside at least one other...can't say the same for most others. The last two were more coincidence than great planning it must be said!

:nervous: Didn't know you could see people's activity! This is like Facebook.

'tis pretty much the only perk of being a mod.

Hah, it's all about getting that team atmosphere. Chemistry.

I am picking players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet as opposed to players who cannot maintain possession for more than two touches, hence I have picked two sweepers as centre backs with Le Tissier in front of them.

I'm looking for a 'World Cup Dream team' sort of team. So far I'm about 1/5 on my way to accomplish that.

They're great choices, I was actually thinking of picking Hughes for a while. Went for Wright in the end

If you are willing to consider the European Championships you could get some Greek players nobody will touch.
