Retro Football Fantasy Championship

I am picking players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet as opposed to players who cannot maintain possession for more than two touches, hence I have picked two sweepers as centre backs with Le Tissier in front of them.

It's all well and good to have ball players but midfielders get the most touches of the ball and it's looking a bit light on that front...I'll just let my midfield men play about with the ball, with the way they can pick out a pass the only time my forwards are getting a touch it's inside the box. Just need a couple of good crossers in there and I'm happy as larry.

They're great choices, I was actually thinking of picking Hughes for a while. Went for Wright in the end

Was thinking about yer man Pepe with the famous penalty kicks but went for Hughes and the United vote in the end. Completely forgot about Wright really. Careca was my first choice from the moment I started because all the really top class ones were gone, was hoping he'd elude everyone for a while! Could've been the man to turn Brazil from one of the best World Cup losers into one of the best winners.

I am well on my way to building a defence that can keep out any strikeforce being assembled, and what is more both Baresi and Sanchis can come forward and contribute if necessary, whilst upfront I have one of the most clincal strikers you could find.

I very nearly selected Ian Wright in my last pass through to go alongside Klinsmann.

TheReligion, we welcome comments pertaining to the players and tactics picked by the managers but anything influencing decisions not yet made by the managers amounts to participation in the game/competition. We can only allow that if you take up an assistant managerial appointment with any of the teams. Anybody would like to appoint TheReligion as their assistant?

I would like the assistant manager role with Brwned if it is available

If not, I will settle for Director of Football

where's Gio gone?

fair enough, i'm gonna PM my pick to Snow

Have to say I know little about Sanchis but I plan to read up on most players I've not heard of. Anyone want to tell me a bit about him? There were only two Spanish players I'd considered at all actually, I wanted to see a bit more of Butragueno so I watched him v Denmark in '86 when he got 4, one other player really impressed me. You're reaching a bit with talking up how clinical Klinsmann was I reckon - you've got Rush, Suker, Voller, Romario, Van Basten, Lineker, Butragueno and Batistuta all with claims to being better goalscorers in their prime, Klinsmann only hit over 20 goals once in a league season while everyone else did so multiple times aside from Butragueno. Interestingly that was his time at Spurs which explains why he's so highly thought of. He's a very good pick all the same because he could do everything you want from a striker, looked a really rounded forward from what I saw, but I think his all round contribution is why he's so highly regarded more than his ability to get you a goal.

Of course.

Guys if you will be away for some time, please PM your pick to the managers who are picking after you. Starting from the 6th drafting round, the time allowance will be cut from 12 to 6 hours. If you are not able to check this thread regularly, you are encouraged to recruit a assistant manager.

I agree with you it could get difficult but I made that decision after due observations, with a purpose and aim in mind. The purpose is to incentivise people to either use the PM system for others to post in their absence or recruit an assistant manager. The aim is to save time for everybody.

If you have an assistant manager, I would advise rotation every 6 hours such that each of you would check every 12 hours. That would ensure that you will not miss your turn.

If you do not have an assistant manager, PM two picks (indicating order of preference) to the managers who have already picked in the current round (note that you will be picking twice before the draft returns to them). If your first choice pick is taken before your turn, your 2nd choice pick will be posted instead. If both your picks are taken, they have to PM me and I will extend 6 hours for you to pick another player.

If for whatever reason, none of them posted on your behalf despite your advance PM, resulting in your pick being taken by a manager after you, I will rewind the draft to your turn for you to take that player.

It is not easy for this to run smoothly for the benefit of everybody so we need everyone's cooperation on this. Thank you for your understanding.

Guys, please note that this is already the 6th round of drafting, the time allowance for each manager is only 6 hours. If you are going away for some time, you can either
PM two picks (indicating order of preference) to the managers who have already picked in the current round, for them to post on your behalf
or
PM one pick to the managers who will be picking after you in the current round

If you are helping someone to post their pick and the player was taken before you could do so, please PM me and I will extend 6 hours for the manager to pick another player.

If a manager has sent an advance PM but did not receive any help in posting his pick, resulting in him losing the player, the draft may be re-winded back to his turn for him to pick that player.

I thought it was already 6hrs. But so long as my deadline isn't in the middle of the night it won't affect me. Can't really be the same deadline for someone if the person before him picks at 3AM.

Polariod if I want to PM someone my picks now, who should it be? I'll need to PM two picks since I go twice in quick succession. That would leave the person I PM open to use my picks. Could open up a can of worms.

I don't pick for 31 (?) picks so it's safe to say I won't be stealing yours! PM me.

They're great choices, I was actually thinking of picking Hughes for a while. Went for Wright in the end

Two very good centre-forwards but neither were prolific. I'll bet Brwned's kicking himself that he wasn't able to pair one of them with Careca or Bebeto. That would have been much better balanced and set his team up as one of the favourites imo.

I don't pick for 31 (?) picks so it's safe to say I won't be stealing yours! PM me.

So I should PM you just one pick? There's a chance that pick will be gone come my turn. I honestly don't mind PM'ing you both my picks but I understand if Polaroid isn't comfortable with that. Need to maintain some boundaries I guess.

Also, does my timer restart when it comes straight back to me?

Yep, would've loved Careca but I was always taking a risk with him, but I never even considered that Bebeto would go. Definitely think I arsed it up a little bit on that front. I reckon Careca might not get the recognition he deserves on here though.

I dunno KP. Pat's neutral but I'm happy if you give me your first and second choice.

For only your 7th round pick, you can PM Brwned
If you want to PM both your 7th and 8th round picks, it has to be to someone who has already made his 7th round pick, which is not possible now. You would have to wait for DanNistelrooy/IBleedRed/myself to make our 7th round pick first

I thought Bebeto would have gone ages ago! Looking at your team again, you've got plenty of creativity and goals from midfield to compensate, plus world class defensive solidity and versatilty from Desailly and Rijkaard. i take it back, you're still one of the favourites!

You can PM me your picks mate. I won't be leaving my house tonight unless I absolutely, positively have to and I'll probably be up late.

Great, Pat Mustard has volunteered, thank you for your help

kps88, the timer restarts when the turn is passed from one manager to another, so you get another 6 hrs when Brwned is done

Alright then I'll just PM Pat in the unlikely event we reach my turn tonight.

Which is why it would be advisable to PM someone just in case such a scenario happens. They can help you post the pick. Even if the player is taken before your turn, they can PM me and I will extend the deadline by another 6 hours. I am logged in most of the time and will check periodically. If I have already made my pick in the current round, anyone can PM me their pick for the current round and the next round as I will not be picking until they have picked twice.

Sorry lads, was out for dinner with the missus.

As this is based on players at their best I'm choosing Paolo Futre, who was considered as one of the very best left wingers during the late eighties (most notably around the time Porto won the European Cup). Unfortunately injuries in the nineties, and Portugal's poor qualifying record at major tournaments at that time perhaps inhibited him from being one of the legends of the game

Amoros is one I thought would slip through the net.

As for Sanchis, he had the longevity of Neville but the charisma of Cantona. Good rather than great defender, the likes of Hierro and Abelardo usurped him at a national level by his late-20s.

2 out of 3 names I PMed to Pat gone in the next two turns after me.

Anyone else instantly regret one of their picks the second they post them? Can we trade picks with other managers?

 Sorry kps88 no trading, only pure drafting where everyone gets an equal shot at getting players. That involves strategic planning and calculated gambles, we live or die by the choices we have made:nervous:

1 hour left for TheHorse'sMouth to pick before the draft skips to Cal?. Nobody received a PM from him?

Cal?s turn now. THM has been posting and started a thread in the general about cider. Guess he's lying in puke in a gutter somewhere on his works do
