Repealing the new twitter thread rules and introducing new transfer tweets page

After discussions among the mods today we've decided to roll back the new, stricter rules around the Transfer Tweets thread.

These were introduced to try and maintain a more focused Twitter thread where it was primarily tweets, with very focused discussion. It's clear, however, that many people do want to discuss particular tweets at length and they should be free to do so in that thread.

There is also a desire among many for a sanitised list of transfer tweets, without the 'noise' of discussion.

Both needs should be catered for, which means two things:

  1. the repeal of the new rules, so it's now as you were in the Transfer Tweets thread. Discuss tweets to your hearts content. Let your inner muppet run wild!

  2. we've created a new Summer 2015 Transfer Tweets (read only) page which displays the latest tweets from the Twitter discussion thread and nothing else. There is no discussion, you can't reply to posts in there, it's purely read only. Duplicate tweets are filtered out, as are quoted tweets. It's pretty tidy and should prove a good source of information for people who want to keep up with the latest bullshit rumours.
So hopefully this satisfies everybody's needs.

Happy to hear feedback on both of these things. Suggestions for improvements to the new Transfer Tweets page are welcome. Kudos to @Top for suggesting this page a year ago!!! It took me a while to see the light!

Brilliant. It was becoming a serious issue. I was wondering if there was a way to automatically link all tweets into a separate thread.
 
Is tweet thread updated automatically or does a mod have to post the tweets manually? Either way, nice!
 
Shocking stuff, i prefer to live under a glorious leader who does not acquiesce to the wishes of the noisy minority but instead strongly follows their own chosen path.

But is there a way that you can search to see if the tweet is from a reliable source?

Perhaps checking to see if the link starts with a specific reference i.e.

You'd check for Sport_Witness/ in the link?

Separate threads go back a while I think. But the manual labour of copying tweets across was unsustainable and it died a death. Automation FTW!

Think its only there on a short term basis.

It's the perfect solution. Kudos all round. It's really impressive to see how The Caf has went from a basic forum (on VB) to making the absolute best out of xenforo. If I remember rightly, you used to shy away from any sort of addons or mods, oh how the tables have turned! Must be one of the most innovative football forums around, these days.

vBulletin was a nightmare to extend, complete cluster f***. XenForo does it right so writing add-ons is so much easier, until XenForo 2.0 comes out and then I'll probably have to rewrite half of it :lol:
 
Would it be possible to apply an 'alert' style number where the 'new' is in the future so it would show users who were watching Tweet Only thread that new tweets were available to them? Or too much hassle?
