Never watched him or cared until things became official yet I feel robbed.

Not that I care - as we had bigger areas to fix than a 18 year old midfielder. I just don't understand why we can't do our business early like the German clubs.

Before someone comes up with "We are the mighty Utd", if Bayern were interested, we had no chance. They are a regular CL semis kind of team.

Didn't want him anyway

I like the way about how we missing a prospect is used as a stick to beat LvG and the club officials..

It's not just this in isolation for me. You look back at the other failed transfers over the past couple of years. When it comes to transfers we've been a bit lax in that department it has to be said.

Maybe they have some relic they can sell to us to make us feel like a top club again?
I'd let you have Alonso for free, but somehow I think he won't go to United because of his Liverpool past :(

I can already imagine the guys at Daily Fail writing a front page article tomorrow on "How Bayern pulled Sanches right under Utd's nose"
Read our exclusive on the step by step process on how Utd missed the prospect. What went behind the scenes and all such stuff, without even leaving their couch for a second.

I agree to that. We are no longer the sought after club.
But to extrapolate even this news to say this is proof that Jose is not coming and club has already decided to stick with LvG seems meh.

No doubt they will. But it's up to us to respond and crush such talk by having a brilliant transfer window.

It's incredible how we managed to mess up this.

What the hell, I thought this was a done dealio basically

Makes me wonder how wrong the media are about everything else that might be happening this summer.....

I swear Bayern's transfer policy is to see who United are linked to and swoop under the radar to sign them. It's happened loads recently.

To be fair, it's Bayern. If they've been interested for a good while then fine. At the same time, if it's down to us being slow as snails, and they've made a late entry, then it's just so typical of us and another two middle fingers to our management.

Bizarre. Bayern paying €80m for an 18-year old in a position they don't need to upgrade?

Very true.

On the fee part - I don't know if it is just my perception or something, but it does feel like we overpay for players, compared to the Bayerns of this world. But I'm sure I'm just paranoid and we were nowhere near being fleeced for almost double what Bayern paid.

No you're right, they were talking about us having to pay £40 to £60 million for him. Yet he has gone for under £28 million. Same when we wanted Douglas they wanted us to pay £35 million but then they sold him to Schaktar for £12 million. Other teams take the piss

wow. Maybe Carlo is planning on go "full Pep" with a 4-6-0 formation *jokes*
I mentioned before that I could see Carlo building the team around Lewa + Müller as a real 2 forward attack and might opt for a diamond in midfield to make it happen or at least some sort of 4 man midfield. It would mean that Alaba's role at leftback would also become a lot more influential, which I'd love to see. But there are still a few missing pieces or at least questionmarks about who would play the holding and attacking midfield roles.

There's also the possibility that Sanches won't be a regular starter next season anyway, but considering how much money we're willing to pay, he really should get lots of playing time.

They aren't a club rich with English money though. Everyone knows they can add a substantial English tax to any player.
Wasn't 35m his release clause? So pay it and you get him, simple?

I'm not even sure why Jose has come up in discussion. I was merely speaking of the current situation and those in charge.

Isn't United linked to pretty much everyone all year long?

Well it worked out okay so far missing out on Pedro, hopefully this goes the same way.

Amusing seeing the back peddling by some on behalf of the club

Wasn't he shit anyway?
There are sooooo many similar players out there for 20 odd million.. Ed doesn't know what he's doing etc.

Guess them playing each other in the CL is where Bayern thought, right let's have him.
