Reece James

This guy is easily the best right back in the world when fully fit and firing on all cylinders. But he has such an atrocious injury record, you wonder if he’ll ever string together enough games to really make an impact as a player on a grand level. Getting silly red cards when he should be building up match rhythm again, is just stupid and unhelpful.

starting to believe that he will never scale the heights his ability otherwise demands. Every time he starts to near his best again, he gets another one to three month lay off. Still, absolutely the complete package at full back when fully on it.

Slightly hyperbolic surely? He’s not even ‘easily’ the best English right back at his best.

He absolutely is. Complete fullback.
Disagree. You can be a complete player but it doesn’t mean you’re in a tier of your own. There really isn’t much between him and Walker.

Anyway, it’s a moot point. He needs to consistently stay fit.

Hamstring again. Probably out for a while again.

He's a crock. Shame for him and Chelsea, because he is / was a really good right-back when fit.

Cursed it seems. Such a shame.

You'd imagine the club are giving him the best treatment possible but there's still a part of me who thinks he just needs to do a bit more stretching.

I don't want him back in a Chelsea shirt until he can do the splits in both directions.

I suspect what he needs is surgery. There were stories last season that he decided against surgery because he wanted to see if he could recover in time for the World Cup. He broke down pretty quickly after coming back, might even have been the very first game back (vs Bournemouth?).

He’s already broken down twice this season and we’re not even halfway in.

If surgery is what he needs, he should just have it. Take the rest of the season off and report back for preseason next summer. He is pretty much useless to Chelsea if he can’t last more than a few games at a time.

I can’t think of any surgery that will help recurrent hamstring injuries. A bit like Luke Shaw, I reckon he’d have less muscular injuries if he was leaner.

Sounds like Ryan Sessegnon who had been having the same hamstring injuries over and over, finally had surgery this summer but apparently still some way from being back fit.

This lad has no luck. Such a shame, when fit and firing he's absolutely electric but seems like his body isn't up to the demands of PL football.

You'd think the club would have learned from Kante that conservative treatment of hamstring injuries simply doesn't work. Kante has played something like 90% of the minutes this year also post-surgery.

Have they tried yoga yet? Hot yoga is the bomb.

He’s got some underlying issue. With Giggs it turned out to be his back. Tight lower back pulling on his hamstrings causing constant strains. James has far too many hamstring issues for it to not have some other linked cause. I hope he figures it out because he’s an absolutely brilliant player.

Giggs also had to stop driving fancy new sports cars, apparently part of his issue stemmed from the driving position and stiffer clutch on the new cars he was driving.

Maybe the Chelsea medical team should listen to some randoms on redcafe wheeling out simple textbook generic causes and advice.
They might not have considered these.

He’s finally doing it. This probably rules him out of the rest of the season.

Hopefully early enough to save his potential - looks a serious player when he is on it.

Yeah good luck to him. It's a brave move to make, I hope it pays off for him. It's always a shame to see such talented players blighted by injury.

Honestly thank goodness - this is long overdue and the ridiculous conservative management of hamstring injuries really should be a thing of the past. Hopefully he bounces back to the same extent Kante has this year.

Fingers crossed mate. I hope this also gives him a psychological boost. I sometimes felt like he was playing with a fear of getting injured again. Hopefully it gives him a new lease of life.

Sigh.

He’s suspended for the first 3 games anyway, so hopefully he’ll be fine for when the suspension is over.

He can't catch a break. Unlike Shaw who makes stupid self-inflicting decisions it's just unfortunate that he is in this position. Such a shame because he's arguably the best of all England right-backs when fit.

James did do the same trying to get fit for the World Cup, Southgate just didn't take him.

Even by some miracle he does have a run of games without getting inured, do you expect him to be the same player? These constant injuries take a lot out of a player.

Feel sorry for him, remember seeing him playing for Wigan some years back and looking like a player that would go places. Sadly he is made out of glass.
