On the 16th he said Maguire will be a United player by the end of the month and on the 18th he said it was 98% done and then retweeted that the 2% remaining was contract details between Maguire and United over image rights. Not sure that counts as pouring cold water over it.
My stance is that if United sign Maguire then Simon was right yet again and continues to have a great track record. If the deal doesn't happen then it will be first done deal he has got wrong and a blow to his credibility.

In all likelihood, he probably went a bit too soon with the ‘done deal’ but he’s obviously got some sources feeding him fairly reliable info
