RedCafe's Top 50 Albums

That's my list, still not sure about it but I haven't got time to keep mulling it over.

Nice one Ivor, good list, but I see there has been a stight oversite on your part at Forgetting Radiohead, obviously a typo or bad memory or something so not a problem ;)

Cold War Kids - Robbers and Cowboys

Fantastic debut album from a rather good band. Indie Rock I supose you'd describe them as if you had to catagorise them, but a cut above a lot of their peers.

Great live band also, saw them a couple of months ago in Manchester and they were very good indeed.

Definitly worth checking out if you haven't heard them yet.

Good shout, quality album.

Perhaps there should be a thread for this stuff, where people can recommend new albums/bands, or even an album review thread...?

I'll probably be 2-3 days late, sorry but the Uni assignment I'm working on after work has been taking up too much time lately

I'll try and finish it tonight but might not make it

Nice one Ivor, good list, but I see there has been a stight oversite on your part at Forgetting Radiohead, obviously a typo or bad memory or something so not a problem ;)

Cheers. I was close to putting pablo honey in my list but for some reason Radiohead have never really been on my radar, same with Zeppelin but I think I will make an effort with them both because everything I know by both bands I like.

Oh and Radiohead are brilliant live.

Cold War Kids - Robbers and Cowboys

Fantastic debut album from a rather good band. Indie Rock I supose you'd describe them as if you had to catagorise them, but a cut above a lot of their peers.

Very good album, wouldn't have imagined them being all that great live but I will definitely try to catch them if they come round my way now.

Nice one people, most list are now in, just three we are waiting on I think now.

Nice list Kristjan, I own about half of them, the rest I may check out at some stage.

And still no pictures :nono:
Here you go then. I made a...few..adjustments so it's easier to wank over.

corrs2.jpg

This is fantastic and they all look mint to cap it off. Except Jim, the bastard:

nobody has voiced his outrage at seeing 2 Pet Shop Boys album there yet.. and here I was expecting some backlash ;)

To be honest I was biting my tongue :smirk:, but it is a blot on an otherwise decent list.

Any chance you could recommend me some electronica that I probably haven't heard, I'm sure you've got plenty, something in the Leftfield moald maybe, or basically any obscure grreat albums that you have come across? That side of my collection has become quite stagnant recently, cheers.

If you haven't got that Carl Craig album that is in 6th then get it a.s.a.p.
Possibly one of the best techno albums ever made

List me up which albums you don't know from my list and I'll let you if it's electronic or not

I'll check that one out asap.

These are the only one I haven't heard or got.

10. Manuel Göttsching - E2-E4
12. Global Communications - 76:14
13. Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
16. St. Germain - Boulevard
33. Bent - Programmed to Love
34. Nuyorican Soul - Nuyorican Soul

44. M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts
45. Metro Area - Metro Area

10. Manuel Göttsching - E2-E4

Landmark electronic minimal album released first in 1984. Recorded as one 40 minute track but split up in 2 parts (A and B side) on the LP, later released on CD as 1 track. Sampled a gazillion times in later years by other artists, most notoriously in the club classic Sueno Latino.

12. Global Communication - 76:14

The best chill out album ever made, period. Everyone should own this masterpiece.

13. Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

2nd best chill out album ever made and the best album released by the Warp label so far. Note that they're actually from Scotland, not Canada.
Here's the Aquarius track from the album

16. St. Germain - Boulevard

The first album from the French deep house producer more famous for his rather overrated Tourist album (which someone included in their list here I think)
You can easily find the Rose Rouge or Sure Thing videos from the Tourist album on YouTube but this album is much better and deeper IMO

33. Bent - Programmed to Love

If you like Lemon Jelly, you'll like Bent.

34. Nuyorican Soul - Nuyorican Soul

Another name for Masters At Work, American house producers who under this name work with legends like Roy Ayers, George Benson, Jocelyn Brown and more to produce a masterful fusion of house, funk, latin and disco.

37. Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By

First album from this German guy who produces a blissful chill out album that begs for a nice beach and some sun and sea.

38. John Beltran - Ten Days of Blue

Fabulous mix of Detroit techno and ambient sounds.

41. Yellow Magic Orchestra - Solid State Survivor

Very influential but often forgotten pioneering Japanese trio. This album was first released in 1979 and unlike Kraftwerk these guys were more focused on upbeat synth melodies. One of the trio is Ryuichi Sakamoto if you know him.

44. M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts

French duo (now a solo project). Sort of in the vein of My Bloody Valentine but a bit more electronic.

45. Metro Area - Metro Area

Two guys from New York who make a sort of dubby, minimal, house with a funk-disco flavour. Love this album.

Interesting, I like Sakamoto.

Thanks for that Kristjan, I'll be checking them out and the others.

Oi, Rednome. Just got this today...

Lightspeed Champion - Falling off the Lavender Bridge

Early signs are very promising, I suggest you check it out my man

Another great album as well, should have made my list thinking about it, Photek - Modus Operandi, sort of a jungly drum and bass techno effort, fecking great.

Check it out franco.

I'm not a drum n bass man, but will give it a go

Lightspeed Champion is a guy who was in dodgy indie band Test Icicles. Thankfully, his new stuff is nothing like theirs. Quite melodic, might be too poppy for you, but I like it
