Television RedCafe's Favourite TV Shows (Round 2)

Seriously though maybe you should change it so people only get as many points to play with as things they vote.

For example someone voting 1. South Park 2. The Shield would give 2 points to South Park and 1 point to the Shield.
This is not a bad shout but I've spent hours counting yesterday and refuse to go back and do that again

To be fair, the way the contest is, I do truly feel the best stuff will get through.

As an experiment I might try both methods on the votes for this round and see how big the differences are. Once all the votes are in.
I mean I'm happy to do it that way if there is a consensus.

Edit: In fact I might just do it that way. It's more work this round but think it'll lead to a fairer conclusion and less tactical voting.

As long as the votes are public there will always be a loophole. If two shows are fighting neck-and-neck over that sweet 2nd place, then you could just vote for all shows (even if you haven't seen them) and put the competitor in last place.

At least that still means ranking tv shows. Rather than voting only one show in a group and giving it +3 relative to everything else.

Meh... I'd rather people just weren't dickheads, but I get that this is naive to hope for. In any case, I think it's better that a show misses out because not enough people saw it than a show missing out because 2-3 sneaky posters actively sabotaged it!

So how is it scored when people vote for only 1-4 options? If they vote for let's say 2 options, those are awarded 2 and 1 points? Because awarding 5 and 4 and 0 for the others wouldn't be very fair.
The rules have been updated in the OP. Will tally again today.
We could have gotten there on Monday, but better late than never.

Don't allow people to change their lists and tactical vote. Jesus how pety.

People coming in voting one show and bouncing could be seen as tactical too. We're fighting back

Tbf I don't know the scores but I have a good impression that certain things are close.

Yup. What is even the point of voting in a group you have seen just one show? I mean, maybe they even think it was absolutely terrible show, that they only watched because their spouse wanted to. So why get more points than other shows by default. Personally I would disqualify all 1 show voters. But we have had enough rule changes already.

  1. The Shield
  2. The Americans
  3. Dark

1. The Wire
2. X-files
3. Parks and Rec

@Dirty Schwein I saw you updated rules. Not sure now if it's better to vote for shows we haven't seen or leave them off the list but I guess I'll vote for all five now to give my number 1s full points.

The Shield
The Americans
Dark
Star Trek
South Park

The Wire
X-files
Parks and Rec
better call Saul
Chernobyl

Ok so re-tallied. Good job @hobbers and @Solius ... the new scoring system massively helped Star Trek catch up with The Americans and also fecked over Better Call Saul

Also just setup groups 3 & 4 and oh my... Group 4 is a real group of death with 5 absolute bangers :nervous:

Succession, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Band of Brothers and ?
Haha don't be crazy. It's not that level. But they're all really good shows and will be difficult to pick between them. One of my favourites is in it.

Parks & Recreation
Chernobyl
Better Call Saul

I really need to watch more shows. I'm behind reminded of really good TV I was supposed to watch ages ago.

So you have to arbitrarily rank shows you haven't seen or your vote counts for less than other people's?

Not expecting a perfect system by any means, but that's mental.

It doesn't do that. If my top show gets 3 points and shows 4&5 get nothing, it is +3 on both.

If I list all 5 shows, my top gets 5 points with 4th on 2 and 5th on 1 so my top show would be +3 & +4.

It basically works out quite even. Not perfect but the best we can come up with.

Ohhhhhhhhhh I see. I feel a little bit stupid :wenger:

It's too combat tactical voting where someone might just come in and vote 1 show. I'm sure some people are still voting tactically but at least it limits it somewhat. No way to completely eradicate it though.
