Onto the next round!

Each Monday, I will set up a new round for the contest.

Each round will represent a different genre of film (I have tried to include all the big genres).

The genres are below (BOLDED IS THE CURRENT ROUND FOR THIS THREAD):

Round 1 - Action & Adventure
Round 2 - War & Western
Round 3 - Fantasy & Superhero
Round 4 - Crime & Noir
Round 5 - Comedy & Romance
Round 6 - Drama
Round 7 - Horror
Round 8 - Sci-Fi
Round 9 - Thriller
Round 10 - Animation
Round 11 - The Knockout Round
Round 12 - The Finals

For each round, please list your top 5 movies from the genre in list view.

Please do this by Friday 11:59pm GMT (please stick to this as last time people kept voting late and that causes me massive headaches on the weekends).

5th = 2 pts, 4th = 4 pts, 3rd = 6 pts, 2nd = 8 pts, 1st = 10 pts.

The top 5 movies from each round will go through to the knockouts.

In the event of a tie, I will refer to their Metacritic scores.

I know movie genres cross over (Alien could be horror or sci-fi) so feel free to consider that when voting but don't be an idiot and vote Alien as a comedy or musical.

If you have voted, then changed your vote, please quote your original list and then post your new list and let me know by tagging me, otherwise I may miss your vote by accident.

I will try to start each new round on the Monday after a vote round has finished.

At the opening post of each round, I will put in the results from the previous round and start the voting of the current round.

Once we have gone through the 10 rounds, there will be a randomized UCL-style knockouts round (which people asked for last time).

Then we head into the final round with 25 movies on the shortlist.

Then once that voting is done, I will post the top 25 in order from last to first and crown the overall winner.

I know this is probably not the BEST way but I doubt there is a BEST way to do this!

Remember, I have 2 kids and a full time job so there may be times where I miss deadlines or post later than anticipated. Apologies in advance.

I hope this is fun and you guys enjoy it :D

Just gotta use your judgement. If you can justify its inclusion then feel free to add it. Alternatively, iMDB it.

Inglorius Basterds is a terrible movie

1. Come And See
2. No Country for Old Men
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Inglorious Basterds
5. 3:10 To Yuma

Films like Black Hawk Down, Full Metal Jacket, etc... all seem to blend into one for me so I can't remember how much I liked them. Plus I'm a WWII nerd really.

How the actual feck did Mad Max: Fury Road not make the top 5? What is wrong with people?

Definitely qualifies as a modern Western, so yeah. It's also one of the greatest movies of all time, so an easy pick.

1. No Country for Old Men (it’s a revisionist / neo Western)
2. Unforgiven
3. Apocalypse Now (Redux)
4. Saving Private Ryan
5. The Proposition

1. Come And See
2. No Country for Old Men
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Inglorious Basterds
5. 3:10 To Yuma

Which one? There are two of these I believe?

It was 5th the whole time until right near the end. I was a bit gutted to be honest, big fan of that movie as an action spectacle. With that said, Gladiator isn't some shitty movie... same for the rest of the top 5, which are all excellent.

1. No Country for Old Men
2. Hell or High Water
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Das Boot
5. Old Henry

  1. Schindler's List
  2. Saving Private Ryan
  3. Apocalypse Now
  4. Full Metal Jacket
  5. Once Upon a Time in the West
Difficult.

1 The Magnificent Seven
2 Last Of The Mohicans
3 The Great Escape
4 The Searchers
5 The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

1. Apocalypse now
2. Platoon
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Once upon a time in the west
5. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

I mean it's a great movie and I named it as well, but is Schindler's List really a war movie? It's more about the genocidal part than the war part of the NS regime

1. The Great Escape
2. Schindler's List
3. Apocalypse Now
4. Saving Private Ryan
5. Three Kings

@Dirty Schwein - I forgot to vote for round 1. Is it definitely too late?
Yeah bud the votes have been done and I've posted the results. Sorry mate.

The main reason is now that you can see the results, you can unfairly sway it...

What were your votes? Would they have altered the top 5?

Get voting from now though!

1. Apocalypse Now
2. Schindler's List
3.The Pianist
4. Full Metal Jacket
5. 3:10 To Yuma (2007 - not seen the original)

Very hard one this, loads have missed out, mainly westerns as they just aren't as good as war movies.

Fair dos!

I think The Dark Knight should've been excluded as it'll obviously be #1 in the next round.

Anyway...

1. Once Upon A Time In The West
2. Unforgiven
3. The Magnificent Seven
4. No Country For Old Men
5. Saving Private Ryan

This genre isn't really for me. Barely seen any westerns. Never liked war films much.

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Tombstone
3. Django Unchained
4. Schindler's List
5. Quick and the Dead

Lads please spread out you're picks. Kinda stupid how Dark knight won Action/Adventure knowing there's literally a superhero picks up next, which is what it primarily is. Kinda defeats the purpose of genres. Might aswel pick Rocky for superhero.

My knowledge of war movies and westerns is pretty poor. To my great shame I haven't even seen Apocalypse Now or Deer Hunter, and A Fistful of Dollars is the only one of the Dollars Trilogy that I've seen. So, for whatever it's worth, my top 5:

1. No Country For Old Men
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Full Metal Jacket
4. True Grit (2010, haven't seen the original)
5. Dunkirk

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Tombstone
3. Django Unchained
4. Schindler's List
5. Quick and the Dead

Keep in the mind the genres were updated at some point during the first round. I believe the "& Superhero" wasn't originally present, it was just Fantasy.

It's great isn't it? Wish more people saw it.

True. Although a lot of TDK votes came after that I believe, so people must just rate it as an action film?
Feel like both War and Western should have been independent categories
Yeah but I need to keep it to 10 weeks so had to pair some up. These two go ok together.
