Music RedCafe's Favourite Albums Of All Time Contest (Round 2)

Is that your favorite DS album? I quite like them, but I think I'd actually rate that album lowest (well, lowest of a string of good albums, I do like it).
I haven’t actually delved into their other stuff in any great detail, bar Brothers in Arms. I think it was going through the 1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die list that introduced me to them, and I’m kind of still on those two albums.

I may branch out at some point.

haha 80's kid born in 75
just old enough to get into van halen as a kid, then on to punk rock, and some gangster rap since i'm in socal.
Something more recent
At the Drive In - Relationship of Command
I meant that the list is supposed to be about the 70s.

You got some good stuff to discover still then. :)
Didn’t do many 70s albums so guess limited choice?
True, but I like Communique better as well. :)

  1. Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
  2. Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
  3. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
  4. Highway To Hell - AC/DC
  5. Regatta de Blanc - The Police

1. Never Mind the Bollocks - The Sex Pistols
2. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
3. Doremi Fasol Latido - Hawkwind
4. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie
5. Parallel Lines - Blondie
Interesting list!
Doremi Fasol Latido over Hall of the Mountain Grill? Psychedelic warlords disappear in smoke!
Dark Side over The Wall? DSotM is amazing, but The Wall was terrifying. Loved it. Love both!

Another great list. But more questions.
Physical Graffiti over IV?
Exile over Sticky Fingers?
Wish You Were Here over Dark Side / The Wall?
Yes. Physical Graffiti ( a two album set)to me is the best hard rock album of all time. Custard Pie, House of the Holy put them on yet another level. Each side of the album was different.
Exile was a two album set and you could pick either one between Sticky Fingers and that.
Wish You were Here has a great song every track with Shine on you Crazy Diamond being the masterpiece of the album.
Didn’t like the Wall except for a few songs like Mother. The rest are played out.
Dark Side was great of course but I just prefer Wish you were here.

It’s their best. The sound is amazing.
The fun thing is that their four albums from Dark Side to The Wall are all quite different, and I get if people have different preferences. For me, Dark Side is definitely their best, but it's significant drop offer and I don't know which of the other three I like best.

The 70s are interesting because it's the last were going to see most lists consolidated around one genre, rock with some punk and pop squeaking in. In the 80s and 90s were going to get a big influx of other genres like hip hop and electronica with pop, new wave, country, R&B, and others still present, although maybe not on this forum.

Yeah, and in the 2000s onwards, there are going to be artists I've never even heard of.

I know it's nice that everyone can find their corner of music somewhere now, but I personally preferred when the music landscape was much more overseeable. (Even if it was in its totality always too large for any person to really grasp, of course.)

1. ROBBIE BASHO - Visions of the Country
2. BLACK SABBATH - s/t
3. JOY DIVISION - Unknown Pleasures
4. CAN - Future Days
5. THE STOOGES - Fun House

  1. Kraftwerk - Trans Europa Express
  2. Led Zeppelin - IV
  3. The Clash - London Calling
  4. Can - Ege Bamyası
  5. Pink Floyd - The Wall

Hard to pink just one of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. I could probably pick 3-4 from each group but I wanted to limit to just one from a group.
I had Ege Bamyasi on my list too but changed it. Now thinking of changing it back. If we think strategically here, we can get Can into the next round. Tago Maga and Ege Bamyasi are better than Future Days, @1950 , shall we all conspire and get Can through by choosing Ege Bamyasi?

There's a quote by the drummer, Jaki Liebezeit, that I love: "There's no such thing as tempo, only density." Amazing.

Bryter Layter - Nick Drake
After the Goldrush - Neil Young
The Last Waltz - The Band
Hunky Dory - David Bowie
Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

Decided to go for one per artist otherwise it would have just been two Nick Drake and Three Neil Young albums.

1. Never Mind the Bollocks - The Sex Pistols
2. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
3. Doremi Fasol Latido - Hawkwind
4. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie
5. Parallel Lines - Blondie
1 - Another Green World (Brian Eno)
2 - Low (David Bowie)
3 - Heroes (David Bowie)
4 - Here Come the Warm Jets (Brian Eno)
5 - Rumours (Fleetwood Mac)

Pasting from previous thread.

Provisional list

1. Hejira - Joni Mitchell (Hejira, Blue, Court and Spark, Hissing of Summer Lawns, and For the Roses all being in the 70s is silly)
2. Songs of Love and Hate - Leonard Cohen
3. Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
4. Harvest - Neil Young
5. Horses - Patti Smith

I've got Low on my list, although I could switch to Ziggy Stardust. So Bowie will have 3 entries in this round but probably won't advance due to Dirty Schwein's arbitrary, capricious rules. There's still time to team up and get Bowie through if we choose the same album.

I was even considering going Station to Station, but went with the more popular one as a sort of tactical vote. Some of these artists in the 60s and 70s have a crazy number of great albums in such a short period.

I'd be up for this, but would prefer one of the Berlin trilogy of albums. Station to Station might be a good compromise.

Hall of the mountain grill is ace as well as warrior on the edge of time, quark, strangeness and charm and X in search of space and Space Ritual was a superb live album. They banged some class albums out but love Doremi. The Wall and Wish you were here are brilliant but Dark side of the moon is just so complete.

I bloody hope so. So far, it's all pretty much over genre. Makes sense considering the decades but need more diversity going forward.

To be fair, everyone's list so far has been pretty good. We need more people participating.

Yeah agreed about the participation. The previous 3 of these, especially the gaming one had loads more.

You should've used your powers to force through the Leonard Cohen album from the 60s round. Ridiculous that it didn't pass without help, but you just can't trust people

I'm using my powers for Craig David, Backstreet Boys & Linkin Park. I need one of these to make it to the final.

You wrote those in order of most to least likely for me to vote. If Craig David came up against Led Zeppelin or Metallica, I'd be on your side.

This is why I always said you're my dude.

I once went to a Craig David concert with a broken leg in a cast, a fight broke out between this old man and a bunch of builders who were trying to enjoy the concert. They bumped into me and I went flying to the ground and sprained my wrist. Hardcore!

Have never heard about him before.
Has any of your choices in these lists ever made it through?

Hybrid Theory is a decent album with three great tracks. But it's not close to a decade topper. The other two, well. We all have our quirks don't we.

I don't foresee anything of mine (that I truly love) make it through. My music taste is absolute tripe, and I am totally aware of this. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours is the only album I like that is likely to make the final.

I guess it's about favourite as opposed to best right? I spent many many hours listening to Hybrid Theory in my college days. I grew up with only access to radio pop music, hence why my taste is awful. But Craig David and Backstreet Boys take me back to a great time in my childhood :)

Curious... which 3 tracks?

One step closer, crawling, a place for my head
