Congratulations John Higgins remarkable Tour Championship win.

Michal Szubarcyzk has lost in his bid to become the youngest ever qualifier (14 years old) for the World Championship.

Only went down 10-8 though, put up a good fight.

Ironically his opponent Dean Young will now face Stan Moody who is only 18 himself but isn't having a very good season, certainly not as good as the Pole although he's been playing at amateur level.

Jimmy White fought back to win 10-9 at 1.20am despite losing a frame to the three misses rule, which I suspect he's never done before!

Some of the names waiting in qualifying round 3 are insane, it just gets stronger every year... Gary Wilson, Walden, Milkins, Ford, Day, Bingham, Gilbert, Lisowski, Vafaei, Lyu, Carter and Maguire to name a few. Joe Perry and Graeme Dott come in a round before that!

The final round of qualifiers take place next Tuesday and Wednesday, with the draw for the first round proper taking place on Thursday 17th.

Insane effort

There’s been quite a few recently. I reckon after last years Worlds where the pockets were tighter than a camel’s arse in a sandstorm and the quality of snooker suffered, WPBSA have had them opened up a bit. Total guess of course

Some big names gone out in the penultimate round of Qualifiers - Bingham, Ford, Milkins and Lisowski.

Plus Dominic Dale and Joe Perry who are now retiring.

David Gilbert is in trouble in his final round match as are Ricky Walden and Gary Wilson.

Looks like there could be a few Crucible debuts this year.

World Championship First Round draw:

Kyren Wilson vs Lei Peifan
Jak Jones vs Zhao Xintong
Neil Robertson vs Chris Wakelin
Mark Allen vs Fan Zhengyi
Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Ali Carter
Zhang Anda vs Pang Junxu
Si Jiahui vs Dave Gilbert
Mark Selby vs Ben Woollaston
John Higgins vs Joe O’Connor
Xiao Guodong vs Matt Selt
Barry Hawkins vs Hossein Vafaei
Mark Williams vs Wu Yize
Luca Brecel vs Ryan Day
Ding Junhui vs Zak Surety
Shaun Murphy vs Daniel Wells
Judd Trump vs Zhou Yuelong

Some interesting matches but none more so than the ultimate grudge match of the round - O'Sullivan v Carter!
Ten Chinese players made it to Sheffield this year, a record and those that came through qualifiers will certainly pose problems for their seeded opponent, Zhou Yuelong for example is a very tough match for Judd Trump.

That’s exactly the opening draw Ronnie needed I think. It’ll put some fire in his belly and could really kick off the tournament for him… or finally retire him.

When Kyren got it back to 9-9 you think there can only be one winner. Lei Peifan just kept attacking and played some cracking shots, he did so well to withstand the pressure in that final frame.

Shaun Murphy doing presenting duty while playing at the WC really grates with me. It also grates that he’s not much older than me and will be doing snooker punditry for the rest of my life. I wish he’d hurry up and have his Jermaine Jenas moment. He’s definitely a wrongun. Porcine cnut.

Zhao is in great form, very enjoyable to watch

Yeah he's very very good. Reminds me of Stephen Henry the way he builds breaks so quickly. Could definitely be a winner this year.
His break building reminds me of Ronnie. He rarely moves the cue ball more than 12 inches.

I struggle to imagine Shaun Murphy doing anything that didn’t grate with you. Unless it involved him jumping into a moving jet engine.

He’d do that wrong too. Imagine it would be like a lump of clay getting stuck in a desk fan.

On a serious note though I just don’t think it’s appropriate for any player to be taking up the position of pundit when they’re still in the tournament. It’s fine asking them their opinion on their own matches but he takes this “impartial” position and supposedly critically analyses other players matches which just feels weird. It’s made ten times worse by his personality and natural inclination to be holier than thou and make snide comments about other players gameplay. From a sporting point of view I just think it’s a bit sour giving one player that position of power when they could come up against any of the players they’re criticising.

Oh sorry forgot to call him a porcine cnut.

The commentator on TNT sport who I know is an old guy really talking rubbish about that black being spotted back on its spot

I think we're going to see another first time world champ this year. Specifically a Chinese player. Xiao or Zhao.
Would really love to see Zhao win it. Think it would be incredible for the sport. I know he’s massively tainted but I love watching him and with the interest already in China it would create a frenzy which can only be good for the sport.
