I just think he's a bit of a hypocrite - he loves the privilege to be able to rock up when he wants from the tour protection. But give the new guys some earning potential and take away that protection a bit, he'll whinge. The big problem is, theres little money at the bottom so you've gotta be massively dedicated + likely earning elsewhere.... + potential family.... and when the earning power is stronger in a normal job.... why bother? So as I say, you've essentially gotta smash it early.... which can be tough with endless quali's.

But then he's right in probably thinking "people pay to watch me".... similar to why Jimmy White still gets the invitational cards.
 
Ronnie has basically mentally given up already here... far too reckless. There’s a balance to how aggressive he should play and he’s way off it at the moment.

True. It's a massive grind and commitment needed. I just think he feels entitled to do what he does and say what he says. He has a point though, but as you say, its not a him problem, he's just doing what all have done over the years and is benefiting from it.

It's games like tonight that show me how little his arsed about the game, more duty than desire, and probably been like that for some time.
 
I get horrible anxiety watching Ronnie play. Its like a new take on “tortured genius“ where he’s the genius that tortures.
 
So predictable from Ronnie. I read an interview from him recently and he said the final he lost to Selby was the biggest regret of his career. Mentioned that he felt he fell into Selby’s trap and was bogged down rather than playing his own game. If anything this aggressive approach he’s played this session (reckless may be a better word) just plays into Selby’s hands - a few good snookers and Ronnie just loses his head.
 
Selby has to be a little worried. He needs one frame and his opponent needs three and yet his opponent is someone who could win those 3 frames in under 20 minutes.
 
Selby ain’t going to let Ronnie roll into the next frame. He’s going to slog this.
