Ebdon would be fine if he actually won with his playing style but he doesn't. He's the tony pulls of the snooker world,

How is that “great stuff”? I’m sure the fans want to watch Ebdon bore the hell out of everyone and take 3 hours per frame. Thankfully that kind of crap can’t happen anymore because all that would do is make thousands turn the coverage off, not exactly what the sport wants is it?

I completely agree that Ronnie can be a ridiculous and petty prat, but Ebdon isn’t the cure for that.

I’m pretty sure you would moan like hell if Utd spent ninety minutes passing round the back four .

It's "great" only in the sense of it annoying O'Sullivan in that particular match, who in his own way annoys me. It's not like it happens every frame. Though, now thinking, I'd pay to watch Ebdon doing that in *every* frame in a match against O'Sullivan.

Could we see first ever cue-breaking-over-bald-head move in the snooker match?

Now that’s an Ebdon match I would watch.

Ng On-yee 5-4 up over McManus in the round one qualifiers.

Edit: She lost 10-6.

Final round of qualifying gets underway today and concludes tomorrow with the first round draw for the Crucible on Thursday. The winners of each of these matches go in to the hat.

  • Tian Pengfei vs Matthew Stevens
  • Gary Wilson vs Liang Wenbo
  • Luo Honghao vs Tom Ford
  • Robert Milkins vs Anthony McGill
  • Graeme Dott vs Kurt Maflin
  • Li Hang vs Ben Woollaston
  • Daniel Wells vs Martin Gould
  • Michael Georgiou vs Yan Bingtao
  • Ali Carter vs John Astley
  • Eden Sharav vs Zhou Yuelong
  • Mark Davis vs Lyu Haotian
  • Thepchaiya Un-Nooh vs Joe O’Connor
  • Michael Judge vs James Cahill
  • Lu Ning vs Scott Donaldson
  • Matthew Selt vs Zhao Xintong
  • Martin O’Donnell vs Joe Perry

The 2 that catch my eye are Milkins v McGill because they are both very used to making the Crucible so that will be a good battle, and the bottom match between O'Donnell and Perry because O'Donnell has made great strides over the last year or so but Perry is another player who is used to being there as a seed.

The Judge v Cahill match will send the first ever amateur to the World Championship.

I've been watching the coverage on the Eurosport Player (which is a great app for snooker fans as you get bonus tables at most of the tournaments) since the start of the qualifiers but the last 2 days are always the best because they bring in the commentators, update you on the scores around the tables and generally build the tension a lot more.

I was going to go up on Saturday as it's only £10 for an all day ticket but I had something else on.

McGill wins. I've seen them both play at the Crucible but had a slight preference for Milkins as the Englishman and I like watching him play.

Other qualifiers so far today are Wilson, Gould, Georgiou, Zhou Y., M. Davis, Thepchaiya and Cahill, the first ever amateur to qualify.

Whilst I agree with you generally, Ronnie has played Cahill 3 times before and the matches have finished 6-3, 6-4 and 5-3 so he knows how to take frames off him. The fact that it's a best of 19 and Cahill's debut at the Crucible tips it heavily in his favour if it wasn't already.

Robertson I would have fancied no matter who he was drawn against because he's the form player on tour at the moment but Georgiou is no mug. Again though he will have the Crucible nerves.

I think Williams will get pushed but win, Bingham will have enough to beat Dott and for Gilbert it was never going to be easy. He's in that bracket of player who is used to being the hunter rather than the hunted, he crept in to the top 16 seeds recently and I think he will find it tough. It's a harsh draw for him to get Perry.

6 Chinese players this year which is a record, and 7 Crucible debutants which is the most for 20 years! Roll on Saturday!

Trump vs Un-Nooh should be a cracker.

** Denotes Final Session of a Match

Poor Pengfei, first ref robs him of a frame to get to 9-5 (most likely), then at 9-7 Maguire with an astonishing fluke to get to 9-8. And all Maguire from then on.

Shame.

This Zhao fella who I don’t believe I’ve seen before is looking good three frames into his match against Selby. Sorry in advance for the jinx.

Sorry, not yet, don't have the time. But have read some impressions, and it seems the game is good, but maybe better to wait for a patch or two.

That James Cahill is playing some good stuff, being the first amateur at the Crucible. Ronnie is giving him plenty of chances though, he looks like he doesn't care of doesn't really want to be there. Just doesn't look like the same player he's been all year at all.

Ronnie O'Sullivan getting trounced by Ronnie O'Sullivan. Some fella called Cahill also playing on the same table incidentally.

Some cracking snooker so far, and some really interesting frames. That last frame between Brecel and Wilson was epic, one amazing safety shot after another. And fair play to Selby last night, he started so badly and didn't seem capable of building a break of 20, but he sure did pull it together in the latter stages.

Fascinating day about to get started.

This morning we find out whether Ronnie can dig himself out of the mini hole he has created against James Cahill - personally I think he will, this is the biggest moment of Cahill's career and Ronnie rarely has back to back bad sessions.

This afternoon Judd Trump gets started against Thepchaiya, arguably the one player he would have wanted to avoid when the draw was made. A very dangerous opponent who won't hold back on anything and scores heavily.

Then this evening Bingham & Dott finish their match (which starts this morning) in a battle of former Champions, along with Mark Allen getting his match started against Zhou Yuelong. Allen, whilst very talented is very inconsistent but is due a good tournament run!

Ronnie’s in one of those moods. I don’t believe he wants to be there this week for whatever reason. He’s throwing as hard as our players.

It's a long way back from 5-8 down and even if he does it, his attitude over the last 24 hours doesn't suggest he will go much further, given how well Maguire dug in (who would be his next round opponent).

I still don't think it's done and dusted but I certainly wouldn't be backing Ronnie at this stage.

He always seems to struggle against Cahill. The aggregate score over all of their meetings is 17-10 which bearing in mind Cahill is an amateur I think is testament to the mental strength of his game.

Cahill is a bit like Liverpool though, the most difficult frame to win for him will be the last one.

Cahill is a decent player of course, he's beaten players like Shaun Murphy and Mark Selby in recent months. The difference being these players were really struggling for form at the time, which isn't something you can say about Ronnie. He's had far too many matches like this at the Crucible while playing great in other tournaments in recent years.

Well it looks like 8-8 now and I think Cahill must be resigning himself to which way this is going... He's effectively got to start all over again, a best of 19 is now best of 3.

Is it a case of Cahill getting nervy or Ronnie upping his game? I'm not risking a live stream at work right now. :D

I think a combination of both, frame 17 incredibly tight, 62-61 to Cahill with only pink & black left.

Edit: Imagine the tension if Cahill takes the pink, Ronnie the black and it's a re-spot!
