Ronnie with back to back total clearances to pull it back to 8-7 vs Trump. Been a bit of a slog and Trump's long potting is superb, still think he'll shade O'Sullivan but it was looking like a stuffing early doors.

edit: 8 each now, quite the match.
edit2: 9 each....
edit3: What an amazing frame, Ronnie wins on the last black.

Fecking unbelievable that, especially after the foul, one of the best matches for years, I’m speechless :eek:

Judd will be gutted putting in such a bottle job performance so close to the World Championship. This was a really great opportunity to show he can beat the very best over long matches because although he's reached a final at Sheffield, he's not achieved anything close to what he wants there.

To surrender that lead and lose on the final black will hit him hard but I think he's probably in the best shape he ever has been at this stage of a season, mainly thanks to bringing his brother on board. I hope he has a good run next month.

That was without a shadow of a doubt one of the best matches I have seen in quite some time.

Had a pint with Ryan Day the other week (used to play cricket with him).

He's so laid back he didn't know his current ranking of if he'd qualified for the World Champs :)

Lovely fella.

I love the longer match format, there's just something about the mental fatigue that comes through from about the 15th frame onwards that brings incredible tension. While I'm glad not all tournaments are slog fests, it's good there has been another "proper" tournament added to the schedule just before the Worlds that doesn't involve going all the way to China.

The final frame of the match yesterday.

World #1 for the first time in 9 years.

He looks to be in ridiculous form again. It's a shock if he doesn't make the final of a tournament he enters. He's had a difficult time at the Crucible in recent years, but surely he's a massive favourite for that 6th title right now. It's just a matter of how he will perform in a sustained run of long matches. Him, Trump or Robertson, anyone else would be a surprise.

Yes he looks good but so do plenty of other players. Only 1 of his 3 matches in the Tour Championship was what you could describe as 'comfortable'. He beat Trump in a decider and was pushed all the way by Robertson too. I still think he can be got at in the longer format.

Favourite? Probably, but certainly not an overwhelming one.

Beating probably the two most in form players in the world, besides himself, comfortably would be a bit much to ask, to be honest. Matches against these two are in the balance but he seems to routinely batter the rest of the field. If you look at his recent tournaments, it's only in really short format (first to 4 frames) that he's lost to anyone not name Judd Trump, all the way since October last year. So I would say the longer format suits him well at the moment.

I'm hoping Ronnie can win more world champs just to put him up there with Davis and Hendry on numbers, although I don't think it would stop him being the greatest ever if he doesn't add to those titles. I think that Trump is the closest to Ronnie at the moment and it will be interesting to see if him and Robertson can maintain this consistently high level that they need to be at to compete with Ronnie who is nearly always at that very high level.

The mental and physical strength of Trump and Robertson will be interesting to watch over the next few tournaments too, and the China tournament could play a big part in how the World Championships go if Trump and Robertson go deep in China, as fatigue or a form drop may set in for them sometime over the world championships. Also Ronnie is not playing for three weeks now so that rest could be telling.

You watch Ally Carter knock Ronnie out in round 2 or something now, by raging in his seat and shoulder barging him into the first row followed by a massive crowd brawl with Peter Ebdon popping up from under the table to attack Ronnie in a Homer on Bart strangle style! followed by disqualifications all around!

Okay so I've had too much red wine..

Just saw this on youtube - a pissed as a fart Alex Higgins making a couple of crazy shots - "If you visualise it...and you believe it...you can do all sorts"

That's great

China open kicks off tomorrow

Selby out in the first round, beaten 6-3 by Craig Steadman. Knowing him he'll probably go and win the World's now but he's going in desperately short of match practice.

Trump also gets knocked out by a desperately trying to bottle it Robbie Williams in the final frame. Robbie messed up a simple black for the match at 5-3, final frame took over an hour.

Elsewhere Mark Willams defeated by Ken Doherty(!).

This feels a bit odd....isn't like the 3rd biggest payout? Not being treated like it, unless a lot are finding the fatigue of the travel puts them out of whack for the worlds.

Robertson and Brecel have both steamrollered their way to the semi-finals and will meet tomorrow. Should be an absolute belter.

The other semi will be the winner of Lisowski v Bingham against the winner of Woollaston v Donaldson.

I would be quite interested in a Robertson v Bingham final as they are the 2 real form players at present.

The difference to Ronnie is stark. He takes so much care before every shot whilst Ronnie just make it flowing and easy and casual.

Still, 12 minutes is a decent pace. Ebdon could've made about 30 in that time.

Can you imagine someone like Ronnie, Trump or Thepchaiya (yes I did have to google it) having to play him or others like him, I bet they want to pull their fecking hair out, it’s bad enough watching it.

I bet the got so bored with being Peter Ebdon that he pulled his own hair out, hence why he's been bald since he was 9.

Wtf was that from eurosport, cutting the fecking final off 3/4 of the way through it?

It's motivating in a way. You can test yourself. Just how much stuff can you get done in the time it takes these two to finish a best of five.

You don't have to image

Great stuff, Ebdon.

Hope someone else will annoy the fecker these days too.

Some numpty preferable.

How is that “great stuff”? I’m sure the fans want to watch Ebdon bore the hell out of everyone and take 3 hours per frame. Thankfully that kind of crap can’t happen anymore because all that would do is make thousands turn the coverage off, not exactly what the sport wants is it?

I completely agree that Ronnie can be a ridiculous and petty prat, but Ebdon isn’t the cure for that.

I’m pretty sure you would moan like hell if Utd spent ninety minutes passing round the back four .
