Started without Ronnie too as he decided to withdraw.

Mainly going to form so far except Hawkins out in round one.

Edit: Maguire 1-3 down to Billy Joe Castle. The top players do not like these best of 7 matches and it certainly makes a case for bringing them in as seeds in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, I’m on the fence on that.

Wtf with the scheduling?

It’s what Ronnie has been upset about. It’s not sustainable for these players to play tournament after tournament like this.

Hearn has the ranking points system setup so players need to keep showing up to tournaments like this.

Not surprised Ronnie is pissed. The rankings are pointless anyway if they all have to qualify. Only important thing is staying top 16 for the masters.

I watched the first couple of frames of the Higgins match and the standard was absolutely horrible.

It’s no surprise the top players struggle to get themselves up for these sorts of atmospheres.

Same with watching low level darts. Feels like watching you and your mates playing in the pub.

There were comparisons with Federer, Taylor and that golf bloke. I think Taylor stands out for me because he hasn't just about beaten a previous record but is so ridiculously far ahead with his major slams that others aren't even in the picture.

Ronnie's achievement is still amazing though. I hope he keeps his focus for at least trying to equal Hendrys world titles.

Taylor is a massive twat, though.

Absolutely. But how I feel about him doesn't change his status.

& I'd also argue Ronnie faced more genuine challengers than Taylor did when he was knocking em out year on year.

True but Taylor still had to blow all challengers away every single year for nearly twenty years. That's ridiculous focus.

I don't disagree at all. Taylor was an absolute machine. Basically the Serena Williams of Darts - Bit of a tosser, but damn, what a force.

Yeah, Taylor stands out because they had to limit his stats to just world titles so the numbers seemed close.
If his stats included all grand slams then Taylors numbers would be so out of reach it would have bee ridiculous.

Wouldn't agree with that- Taylor dominated multiple top players and saw off so many challengers along the way. He dethroned Bristow to kick it all off too. He is a twat though.

Bollocks. I was so tempted to put a tenner on Allen when he was 5-2 behind, and he actually did it to come back & win 6-5. Some bottle! Final tomorrow between him & whoever wins the Trump vs Murphy match tonight.

His level of domination is completely unprecedented to be fair. I just can't imagine Ronnie, even with absolute top notch mentality throughout his 27~ year career putting up the numbers Taylor has. Players like Hendry, Higgins & Selby were just too much a threat in their day.

Murphy misses frame ball & leaves Allen with a red over the pocket & all the colours spotted. 2-1 Allen now, one more frame before the interval.

5-3 to Allen going into tonight's session. Both players have played well, but have played the odd bad shot giving the other a chance to recover. Good, enjoyable game.

Murphy had to work hard for this last frame but he's playing really well now. He's only 6-5 behind and this is turning into a great final.

Great week for Allen. Bounces back from a UK final defeat (collecting £80k or so in the process) to win the Scottish Open immediately after (for another £75k cheque).

Some of those will be crackers. Reckon Jack Lisowski has to start showing he can be contender.

Got my new cue coming tomorrow. My old faithful of the last 19 years broke last month. Already treated myself to an American Pool Cue last month which has been great on the American tables but a 13mm tip is no good for Snooker and UK Pool :D

Anyone have any experience with CueSoul cues? They sell on Amazon? Reddit seem to rate them as brilliant value imports, hand spliced and really high quality and I haven’t found a bad review yet other than the tips which I always replace anyway.

This is the one, I’m a bit worried the butt is going to be a bit bright and flashy though.

Looks nice! Let me know how it plays.

I've only really started playing the last few months. I'm still crap but feel like I'm getting better. Not got a cue yet so using the ones in the snooker clubs which are pretty bad, so I need to look at buying one soon.

Ugh. fecking Hermes made a feeble delievery attempt and now it’s impossible to get them to drop it anywhere today. First world problems.

I'm due a new cue, had a few frames at the local last night and I'm pretty sure it's not straight anymore!

RE: The Masters, always throws up some good matches due to the exclusivity of the invites, i.e. top 16 at cutoff.

My 2 most anticipated matches are Trump v Wilson, there's a bit of rivalry there and also Williams v Robertson as I think they will bring the best out of each other. Looking forward to Sunday when it starts!

I’m absolutely blown away with the quality of this cue. Played with it tonight and it just felt right, not that that is a sign of a good cue - it’s a personal thing and for some people the right cue might be a £15 Argos Cue so I’ve been lucky in that it’s just exactly the type of cue I love. The balance and weight is just spot in for me.

I’ve been looking at Cues since early December and have been to a few places to have a play and get a feel for the cues before I buy and none of them felt quite right. I’d looked at Peradon and John Parris cues ranging from £170 to £750 (budget was £200 but I wasn’t going to turn down a play with a cue of that price!).

Anyway, off Amazon for £99 and it came with a good quality leather case, 6 inch butt, telescopic extension, cue towel and glove (which I will use with my American Cue). On top of that, IMO the craftsmanship rivals any of the cues I played with that were £300/£400 more expensive.

Seriously can’t recommend getting one of these cues enough. Best value purchase I’ve made in a long long time.

Nice one mate! If I get around to getting a new cue soon I may follow your idea!

Thanks man! Will look at picking one up next month.

What's your highest break?

I actually can’t remember! It was above 70 from what I remember because it was enough to win the frame. I was 16/17 at the time and was playing 2-3 hours every night back then and had been obsessively since I was about 14. Then I became a chef and didn’t play regularly for about 10 years. I picked it up again a few years back when I went back to college and had a few evenings off a week and used to practice on my splits and I hit something around the 65 mark with a very generously placed practice spread. In the last year or so the best I’ve managed in practice matches is in the late 40s, I never bother doing any practice drills anymore, find them a bit of a bore these days.

Well your miles better than me, I'm so bad at break building:lol:

Nice! What you doing? Me and @VeevaVee will come meet you for a beer.

It’s a works do so not sure what the schedule is, think we’re getting a ride up and they’re sorting a hotel out but hopefully there will be a bit of free time for a beer or two... maybe a game of pool?!

Yeah I'm sure that can be arranged. Just drop me a message when you know more!
