RedCafe Cricket Draft

I hated Agarkar all through my school life, but 50 wickets in his first 23 matches is a commendable effort. He shone bright, faded fast.

I thought DeVillers would last a bit longer too. Saqlain, I knew would go before long. There's maybe 5-6 good spinners in the draft. As I said in the original Kumble pick post, its a lean era for spinners. The eighties were especially bare.

A lot of the teams are going to have no real spinning options.

De Villers was going to be my next pick. Don't know why but I thought Saqlain would go unpicked for long..

Well KM said that the games were going to be played at Iconic Grounds like Lords, MCC etc. Can't see too many of them supporting spin to be honest.

Like I said earlier, the pitch should be an imaginary, perfect test wicket. Perfect contest between bat and ball.

No team should get an advantage from the pitch and it should not be a factor when voting.

Did KM say that? I thought the pitch was going to support everything.

I agree with kps, it should be an ideal pitch for everyone. Best for batting, for spinners, and fast bowlers. The pitch should play no part in deciding the outcome, only the players should.

Speaking as an outsider, I'm not so sure about that. Pitches play a key role in cricket and it can be like a lottery too. Some players are great players elsewhere but can't play the swing in England or the spin of the subcontinent. I reckon that should be taken into account.

Makes it slightly more interesting when it comes to voting but can understand why people will want the perfect test wicket.

It might make it interesting, but I can't see how we could make it work. It'll just leave the game open to accusations of bias. How will we decide where each game is played?

Besides, it'll go against people who've worked hard to get a well balanced eleven. A team loaded with 5 seamers would have the edge over the well balanced eleven if the match was being played on a seamer friendly ground.

The pitch should not be a factor in casting votes, it should be who is the better team that wins the votes.

Now i'm thinking we should have had made groups of 2, so this draft would have gone better.

Edit - by better, i mean faster.

Think we should have made it from the 70s onwards tbh. We are going to be picking crap players at the end.

But we started so no point going back now!

If it was groups of two, there would be less teams, so it might have been ok picking 80's players. :p

It should stay as it is now, who's next btw? will he pick anytime soon?

Would've allowed most teams a quality allrounder. Was a great era for them - Imran, Botham, Kapil, Hadlee plus a few others who weren't as high profile but still pretty useful.

I think you can still add 70s players once you get everyone to level pegging on picks. Ah well

Yeah I wouldn't mind this. I can see people complaining though. I wouldn't have picked Flintoff if I had more all rounders to chose from.

Spins in demand, so gonna have to take one of the two best options available since I can't see both falling the next 10 to me. Don't think Flintoff is a shit choice either, he's a vote winner for one, and to be fair, ignoring injuries, he's a great allround option, capable of 35/28 without the injuries, and being a gamechanger to boot.

Let's not change the rules midway guys. Let's pick players who debuted in 80's. Make it more challenging.

feck off, i so was going to pick him. :( :(

There's two maybe three decent quality spin options left. After that, its a pretty big drop off. Anybody who doesn't get those is going to have to use spin as a filler not a wicket taking option.

Flintoff at his (brief) best was an excellent bowler and a decent bat. Plus he's a big game player - someone who puts in extra effort when it counts. That should help in the voting.

Harbhajan Singh. One of the few quality spin options still available. Well, not anymore. :)

AldoRaine18 PMed from the Newbies as he is next in line, he wants Andy Flower.

Flower's an excellent choice, his decision to protest against the Mugabe government was a fantastic sacrifice to bring attention to the human rights abuses in Zimbabwe. I also think he has done a great job with the england team.

Good pick, keeper batsmen are severely underrated. Flower's among the very best.

What are the factors taken into account during voting? Is it pure personal choice?

What are the factors taken into account during voting? Is it pure personal choice?

Mostly. You'll get a chance to explain how you expect each player to perform in a unit etc. But at the end of the day, since almost everyone voting will have seen these players play, personal preference will also come in

feck. I thought everybody forgot Flower. I was going to pick him. This order sucks :(

Omar I know you're viewing this thread. FFS Make the pick soon.

I'm considering reducing the limit again to six hours. People are taking loads of time.

Do it. If someone thinks their pick is going to come when they are asleep then they ought to PM someone who will be awake then, perhaps someone who won't get their pick for sometime.
