Zen's got a couple of hours. No big deal. We'll get to the 11 today I think...DE comes on late in the evening.

Can't see Aldo taking 20 wickets against me..

Too early to be talking about this stuff...we should keep it for the individual threads but you're going to struggle against his batting line-up as well.

Gibbs
Taylor
Mahela
Waugh
Ranatunga
Flower
Collingwood

Thats a long and gritty roster. If it was a regular game, i'd be be willing to put a fair bit of money on a draw...which brings up an interesting point. How do we settle draws?

I won't get into it here, then and save it for the thread. That is an interesting question about draws and I have no idea.

Ooooh yeah. Or are we going to be forced to vote for a win for either of the teams?

How about: Sum of batting averages - Sum of bowling averages (only for the playing XI)?

Reasonbly fair and easy to calculate in my opinion...and only need be used in the unlikely circumstance of a voting draw.

Mmmm I don't think that will work. If someone picks a player with 10 matches and a great average, he will get a lot of advantage even if others don't rate him as much as someone who has played 100 tests and has an inferior average.

So it will be kps88 then. I am sorta happy, fancy my chances against him.

I will destroy you and feast upon the carcasses of your fallen players.

PS - I think we should just force people to vote for a winner and avoid the complications arising from a draw.

I think it should be - if you think the match will be a draw then pick the team you think is more likely to win an ODI.

I am already salivating at the thought of picking Murali from your team

I have no idea how you can force people to vote to settle a draw. You keep it open for a few more hours beyond the deadline? What if no votes come in during that time?
I am talking about when there will be only two option on the poll- Team A wins or Team B wins. No draw option

Oh right you mean a tie breaker.

For the Football Draft we left it open for few more hours till it was settled. Although once we had to simulate a penalty shootout on Football Manager. I don't mind the averages option as a last resort.

There should be no draw option. You ahve to vote for one of the teams, and if scores are level, extend the deadline until someone wins.

There's only a limited number of people interested. I'd bet you'll get only 20 or so votes per game - the 16 of us nerds participating plus 4 or 5 generally curious observers. I don't know if extending the deadline will help a lot but worth a try I suppose.

Okay. I've given this alot of thought and I've (with secret help) considered a few very closely even though their averages are nothing to scream of because, if my memory serves right, they were tough bastards. But given that there is a strong PR aspect to this game, I'm going with some flair

Darren Lehmann

But, I'm going to take board certain suggestions for my 12th man and use it against tough bowling units.

Question to all - or anyone who wants to answer - should I pick a better openner and move Afridi down, or pick a good lower order batsman. I'm down to two

I'm off in 5. I'm just going to go ahead and post my pick since nm03 isn't going to pick another WK.

I reluctantly pick Moin Khan.

I don't rate Afridi at an opener at all...especially in tests so would recommend an opener but there's not really many of any quality left.

I can think of maybe two openers who I wouldn't be embarassed to have on my side...thats it. And they're a stretch.

Not that there are many quality lower order batsmen left either.

Sorry I'm taking time - I have to check that the guy isn't taken - he has a common name.

'Tards, I'm only going to put my pick up by tomorrow morning 9am gmt+2 time. Pointless pm-ing now since there's a few yet to got but if u get stuck on me, just wait till then at least before u choose 12th men.

Should follow the same route back for the 12th man. I'll be on around that time too.

He isn't - I pick opener Mark Richardson from New Zealand.. Solid and dependable. Average of 45

Ok i've thought about it and i'm going mind over heart.

Only 26 tests played so far but I rate this young man. Very nice lower order bat and a useful bowler if he gets over his injuries. Calm temperament, already the vice-captain and a long career ahead of him.

Thats my team done. I'll probably add another bat as my twelfth man to switch around if I come up against a really strong bowling team

1 Graeme Smith
2 Geoff Marsh
3 Allan Lamb
4 Aravinda de Silva
5 Michael Clarke
6 Brian McMillan
7 Angelo Mathews
8 Jeff Dujon
9 Heath Streak
10 Anil Kumble
11 Glenn McGrath
