Reality-Monopoly Draft

Could you clarify that, for the less intelligent among us?

You're saying that Pat should have factored in that a potential pick of his (on behalf of Skizzo) might have - potentially - forced Tuppet to drop v. Hanegem (I presume) IF he, Tuppet, happened to land on the relevant box (that is, before potentially recruiting someone else, deliberately or randomly, that he might choose to drop), thus fecking up the plans of one out of 16 managers?

Doesn't really matter I think since in his very next pick Tuppet picked Cole who overlaps with Becks.
Wouldn't at this point, no. And it made infinitely more sense to target 5 in one go than put all your chips on affecting one manager.

Still a better option than Helguera though.

Indeed. A bit far-fetched. The realistic expectation would have been it would force Tuppet to prioritise picking a further overlap with Skizzo (even if suboptimal) to protect the Dutchies.

We (well, I, Pat wasn't really with us) discarded it for better options that targeted multiple managers in the same way: 5, compromising their prime assets.

Then Pat decided it didn't involve a good enough DM for the love of his life and went with Helguera (at which point this Dutch call was superior on both counts).

I did send my picks and the next round pick before going to sleep so there wouldn't be a hold up but it got taken due to the box criteria changing. I'll try and find someone now

nah its my bad, was looking spots after him and they had 9 players while he was on 11 so i was in Jones mode.....people didnt update the list.

On a general note, I’d say that if you have criteria, and part and parcel is that people are supposed to pick accordingly, they and only they should be punished for picking ineligible players.

You shouldn’t punish both the transgressor and all the other managers, which is - essentially - what happens if the ineligible pick is simply blocked, with the offending manager free to pick a replacement: To the other managers this means a) that a player who shouldn’t have been picked in the first place is now unavailable and b) that his replacement is unavailable too.

@harms can you please update the list with the missing players I just seen yours and couple of others are not there.

Yeah, otherwise it can even become a strategy for some

@Edgar Allan Pillow Box 25. That means I have to wait for Redtiger's pick and pick somebody who did NOT play with the person he picked right?

Well, it would seem to me that if you’re picking players tactically to some extent or other, this involves a fairly complex equation - at least potentially, and certainly if you take the bigger picture into consideration.

For instance, why would you worry about Manager NN, at stage X, putting together combo Y - rather than worrying about any other potential combo, for any other manager, at any other stage? NN could finish his drafting on a relative shit string, roll wise. In which case his brilliant combo might mean nothing. And it won’t mean a fecking thing to you, personally, unless you end up drawing him. You could draw someone else, win, and face NN in a q-f - with the best part of the combo out injured. The possibilities are almost literally endless.

The big question is this: At which point does it become more reasonable/sane/efficient to simply ride your luck rather than trying to actively outsmart the competition?

Granted, the latter might be considered, simply, as a thing to do - regardless. For your own sake, that is, to fight boredom or whatever the case may be - but whether it makes sense to do so is an entirely different question.

The more randomness involved, the more sense - I would argue - it makes to simply embrace that randomness.
You can be pretty damn sure that if you make five managers worry about their star player having to be dropped you will influence their choices. The end game isn't making them drop them (that's a bonus), the purpose is to influence their choices so they consider lesser quality with insurance value.

Luck is random, yet we always say "you make your own luck". I believe that to be true.

Yes, I told him last night after he sent the previous round pick. Only harms could pick Vidal and didn't need him so it was expected to go through.

That would have had zero influence on our choices, can't say on others.

I already decided round 0, I'm not worrying about that type of thing and just going to keep picking the best player/tactical fit for the box.

Agreed. Seedorf being blocked made sense but I put Cafú in the same bracket as the Henry/Cole incidents (i.e. not blockworthy).

You only have to look at the rosters to tell not everyone does that. It obviously depends on the box tbh, I did similar to you but had 4-5 boxes earmarked for safety picks.

To a certain extent. But if it costs too much (in effort) to make your luck relative to the general degree of randomness in the contest as such - well, there you are.

Not worth it.

Do you work in Business Intelligence as well? That's fundamentally correct.

For me that's too much uncertainty and moving pieces with no guarantee it even benefits you.

For instance, you might end up influencing the choice of a manager who becomes the first round opponent of the team you feared the most and now you just weakened the team that could have eliminated your most feared rival.

Damn... five managers in box 16 and it's a bit of a crappy box. This should be an interesting round.

how can someone just upload first half of a game ffs:o:o:o
