(Realistic) January Signings Thread

I think we're screwed. I don't think anyone is available and the CL knockout stage carrot is gone, but if we don't get a striker and someone to do the job Memphis is meant to do we aren't getting top four.

I'd love to see the scouts unearth an unexpected gem from somewhere. That is what they should be paid to do.

According to FM 2016 lukaku operates best as a target man. Anyone know if that's true in real life?
Not really. Playing with his back toward goal is his weak point - particularly for Belgium when teams park the bus against them.
He's at his best in the way Everton are playing, really. Quick transitions and early forward passes.

What is even realistic ? Club like Liverpool was able to sign Suarez and Coutinho in January.

LvG needs to get off his ass and start using connections in Europe and push Woodward for solid fund support. This season cannot be wasted just because we didn't had solid depth when typical injury plague destroyed us pretty much every season... and no more bullshitting about need of small squad to rotate with youngsters. Get yourself balance and strong, quality selection worthy of size of this football club then come up with SAF's famous headache which was never a problem after all in a league like this one with four parallel competitions.

Would do well with martial then?

I don't want to see us sign Vardy and Mahrez, they'd cost too much for what we'd get.

I just want another striker/attacking option. Probably a centre back too and we'll hopefully be alright

Realistically Berahino is a good shout. We aren't going to get top class in this window so he'd be a welcome addition with a point to prove.
Think someone has already mentioned him but Leroy Sane from Schalke would be a great signing on the wing. Would probably be half the price of Mane too.
We really could do with a left back too. Preferably on loan since Shaw is going to be first choice when he is back.

Then change our style to suit Vardy! We needs wins and points!!!
LvG will need to resign to change style. Anyway, I don't think he's United quality. Just having one of those once in a lifetime seasons where it's just all works.

If we want to guarantee our top 4 status, fans are going to have to stop being accountants! Honestly, I don't know why fans care about what players cost. And our income in rising far more quickly than fees inflation.

What should we do with the noodle money? I'd rather it be spent on excess or overpaid fees than in the pockets of the glazers!

So,what's your answer this january transfer window then? I want solutions

Coutinho wasn't playing for Inter and Suarez was thrown out of Ajax because of his behaviour.

@sammsky1 Douglas Costa seriously?

There's room in the squad for one world class winger plus one long term squad option. We're never going to get the former in January, so let's focus on the latter. Mahrez now, someone better in the Summer. As much as I'd like to buy two creative widemen, it's not a good idea to fill all the gaps in the squad at once in the next month.

I think we saw strong signs of that today.

That in all the high pressure meetings with woodward and possibly Saf this week, they have insisted he try the more traditional United way of attacking play.

I think that's the compromise everyone has made

No way Leicester sell Mahrez now. If they get CL football, he'd be worth a lot more than what they get.

I can't imagine anything less than £40m would be considered at the minute. He would be someone to go for in the summer though.

So pay the £40 million then! We wasted as much on mata and got bugger all in return for that!

£40m now or £30 in the Summer? I think the £10m premium is worth it considering 4th place is in the balance.

Which only proves Pool wasn't screwing around and took opportunity of the situation. Same thing about SAF and the whole Evra plus Vidic combo.

We have to simply take measures and squeeze the best out of this window or we may experience the recent situation for another months to come. I don't think Caf or supporters in general will take this good, another year in a football limbo because we simply afraid to spend in January or take any risks in that matter.

They'd just add Woodward's (new) email address to their spam filters. Again.

Madrid always get there man. Pay outrageous fees and it's always possible!

We all gasped at Suarrez £70m+ move to Barcelona and now it looks a steal (given our £60m failure with di Maria)

They don't need 60m, to be honest I'm wondering if you are not wumming.

I'm wumming abit, Moreso just establishing the principle that if we truly are screwed and in danger of losing top 4, we will have to sign a top quality world class player and stop worrying about reasonable transfer fees .

There is always players on the market but during the winter you can forget about the in form players and big names. You have to go after the players with buy out clauses and no international competition to fight for, the players with potential and the bench warming veteran.

Oh, I definitely agree with your sentiment. But there are probably three clubs in the world we have absolutely no chance of buying players from (unless those clubs want to get rid of the player), and Bayern are one of those clubs.

We don't have time to go on a wild goose hunt this window as well, as we did in the summer with Ramos/Müller/Neymar.

I'm fed up of missing Hazard or Aguero for the sake of a few million like we did.

We have so much money and also flex space within FFP . We have to use our resources and advantages now!

Good post. I'm leaning towards agreeing with you. If we could get Ighalo and Mane in, for around £50-£60 million most likely, it might be as good as we're going to get in January. We might well need to do it to give ourselves a chance in the run in and just hope they hit the ground running. Not sure Mane will be available though for anything that isn't totally obscene.
To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more people on here who seem to be open to the Ighalo suggestion. From what I've seen, he'd suit our current style and predicament more than Vardy or Berahino.

Can't see us getting any of these players that have been mentioned in the window, even Charlie Austin has emphaticially stated he'll only leave Rangers in the summer. The dream is dead.

Raiding chelsea might not be a bad idea. Am sure Roman wants to rid of some of some of judus tool Downing prima donars.

Let's go all in for Hazard.

Cheeky bid for Bojan?

Said that on page 1, we need to stop and realise other teams have better players than us in some areas, seriously would Bojan and Shakiri do any worse than what we have bearing in mind they made us look stupid the other day?
