Seriously.....clearly gotta have 2014 still in his mind. So is Milan the only outcome here?

Could do a Ronaldinho and move back to Brazil.

Same as Ronaldo wasn't it? So 2 years. I think it's essentially Brazil or Milan for any realistic chance of playing regularly.....and I still think, should he stay fit, he'll do well. Just every other top team seems set.....feeding Balotelli won't hurt his chances either.

Biggest flop ever?

More of a failure than Torres for me.

Bigger flop than Torres, most definitely.

Well that should give him a chance. His cut in wages would be incredible though.

I could see him either go to someone like Atletico in Spain or Spurs here, if they can afford his wages. A return back to Milan could be a possible move, while I wouldn't rule moving back home out of the question in the way Ronaldinho did.

Nobody can afford his wages. If he's unwilling to accept a big drop in money, he'll be at Madrid for the next two years. Apparently, teams have been interested, but he hasn't been prepared to take less than his current salary. Real have made their bed..

If it's money, he could find a deal somewhere in China or the Middle East.

If he wants to have any realistic chance of making th Brazil squad for next years World Cup, then a return to his homeland would surely be the best move. I think the Milan ship has sailed and I can't really see anyone else taking on his wages, though Monaco might fancy a another marquee signing, and this one would be huge for them.

I can see Ancelotti keeping him, using him, and Kaka actually contributing more next year.

Man City.

MLS has been after him for ages. I wonder if they'll make their move now or put it off and have the new NYC club try for him.

He'd crush it in the MLS. His pace is completely gone because of his knee, but his awareness and vision would be several classes apart from anything over here. Would be fun to see.

It's a shame that the career of such a wonderful player was essentially ruined by injury at 28. He was nearly on Ronaldo/Messi level prior to his injury.

One of the biggest flop mystery in the game. He was supposed to make a Zidane type of impact after joining Real.

He's had more than his fair share of injuries at Madrid but he should never have left Milan. He absolutely destroyed us in the semi finals of the CL in 07. I went to both legs and he was just untouchable...

It's not a great mystery. Injury robbed him of the searing pace that separated him from everyone else. Remember Gerrard no slouch himself banging on about how exceptionally quick Kaka was. Once he lost that edge he was just another useful attacking midfielder, but one on excessive wages unwilling to take a financial hit to get some regular football. Typical of Real's galactico policy, he was already well on the wane before joining Madrid and his last season in Italy was much the same as what he's produced since.

He was never going to thrive in a system where there is someone like Ronaldo. At his peak he was an attacking midfielder-cum-second striker, hardly a traditional playmaking trequatista. Real needed a player with creativity, unselfish and capable of setting up goals for teammates, Ozil and Modric fits the ideal, while Kaka was banished to the bench. When he was at Milan, he was their main weapon and there was a midfield trio Gattuso - Pirlo - Seedorf behind which effectively relieved him of any defensive and creative responsibility and focus more on direct dribbling and attacking. The tendency of their forwards Inzaghi and Shevchencko to pull wide meant that there was more space for Kaka to burst through the middle from deep.

Or at least that's how it worked out on Fifa 11/12/13. Or maybe what Zonal-Marking said. Inzaghi's tendency to pull out wide...wow.

That and his deadly dribbling down the flanks.

Yeah, he looked so elegant on TV it wasn't until I saw him live that I realised how big and quick he was. Once that speed had gone he returned to the ranks of the mortals.

Basically this Milan knew what they where doing they run the medical side of their club so well. He was in decline without that pace just an above average player.

So that's where inzahgi always disappeared to.

I was actually thinking of Shevchenko when I said that. Inzaghi playing on the shoulder of the last man also allows Kaka to exploit the space.

What a load of utter bollocks. Above average player? We see some shit spoken on the Cafe but this is up there with the best.

The Madrid move ruined him and the sooner he get's out of there the better. A combination of not really being played in the role he needed, not getting the game time he consistently needed and of course a massive amount of injuries. All of that combined sent him on a massive downfall.

Incredible player and even with quite a bit of his pace now gone, he's still quality and needs to be at a club where he's going to be starting the majority of games and in the right position too.

Milan did seem an obvious destination but I'd expect that wont happen. I'd love him to stay in Europe, but whatever happens, just hope he's at a club and playing regular football.

Without the pace? yes he is just an above average player it was what set him apart. He is above average now he won't be among the best in his position anymore.

In some of those youtube videos he looks like Michael Carrick with blazing pace. Definitely. With some modifications. We should sign him up cheap, and convert him to a deep lying CM.

Almost bit :D

Edit, my thoughts on him: Cannot believe the amount of people saying he is just an ordinary attacking midfielder that is simply 'good'. I think people are forgetting he's only just turned 31. As far as the arab world goes, he was the reason that not every kid was wearing 'Ronaldinho' on their back. I think with the right set up (a team that will allow him the freedom, with two workhorses behind him allowing him to play just behind the striker) he will show everyone that he's still not quite past it. His ability on the ball is like not many other players of the last twenty years, and people tend to forget the ease at which he plays eye-of-the-needle passes with such regularity, simply because he is a dribbler and plays very high up the pitch.

Of course, that is a big if - which top level team in Europe will be willing to afford him that chance, with it being such a risk that he may simply never recover his old form? It's fair to say it would be a big gamble for any Champions League regular to allow him that position after 4 years of sitting on the bench. It's not likely to happen, & so unfortunately it does seem likely he'll be back in Brasil in not too long. Anything is possible though. Amazing player.
