'Real to return for De Gea' - Guillem Balague 11/03/2016

Why the feck would be a release clause, and such a low one, in his contract? Stupid. If he goes we are in even more trouble, any keeper we get will be a downgrade and he's the only world class player we have. Navas is suited to La Liga, not the PL and he never wanted to come here. Butland is the only real option we have, big downgrade but he's English so there's that.
Because he'd be leaving for a free at the end of this season. The fee he goes for will still most likely be a world record one for a keeper.

I think this transfer will mostly affect us image wise, the "only a matter of time until Madrid come calling" wankers will have ammunition for at least 5 more years.

I honestly don't think he was that important this year, like he was in the last 2. He is still our best and most important player, but I doubt we would see any change in our results in we had Navas instead of him this season. With Mourinho coming in next year, I expect us to be very solid in defense, so the GK role should be less demanding.

No one would begrudge him leaving. He's been a trooper and nothing but praise for him. He has earned his get out of jail card.

Has he, Louis or Ed been asked point blank whether there is a release clause?

One, Guillem is not a source for anything as far as player movement or club desires - it's been proven time & time again that he merely recycles other rumours.

Two, De Gea was always going back to Spain with the #1 spot for La Roja effectively predicated on playing in the Primera.

Even if RM continue to fail to win much in the Barcelona era, they have the profile of a club a player of his caliber & background craves.

Got a vague memory of De Gea being asked during international duty and he said to ask Mendes.

That doesn't sound great. Of course, we're assuming 99.9% that there is a clause. I'd like a reporter to ask this...

Thought I seen an article a couple of days ago saying the Madrid fans didn't even want De Gea.
I hope he does stay but can't blame him for going as long as we don't sell him cheap

I'll be pleasantly surprised if there isn't one.

Here it is: http://www.theguardian.com/football...nited-david-de-gea-real-madrid-release-clause

After Spain’s 1-0 victory over Ukraine on Monday De Gea refused to deny a clause is in the fresh terms he signed. Instead, De Gea suggested his agent, Jorge Mendes, be asked about this. “You should ask Jorge that question,” the 24-year-old said. “He is the one who pays attention to those sort of details.” United have also refused to comment on whether the clause exists when asked by the Guardian.

Just seems a diplomatic way of him saying he can't comment and that more than likely there is one. With him being here for rest of season he wouldn't want to rock the boat.

More chance of winning the league at United under Mourinho next season than at Madrid against Barca and Atletico.
Maybe, but he just wants to go back to Madrid.

DDG has been a pro. Never has he moaned even after the deal fell through last year. I won't be bitter if he goes but surely we'll be asking for a massive figure if Madrid want him. Even if there is a release clause I'm sure it won't be any less then 50 million.

People said this during the Moyes era as well and we qualified next year. Rest of the teams in PL aren't that great. Our squad is ok and will be very good if filled with decent additions. We are managed by a moron though.

7th, 4th, 5-8th?

Those are wilderness years for Manchester United!

To be honest I have no desire to sign him .Probably De Gea is a goalkeeper 95/100 and Navas 90/100 but I would happily keep Keylor . Everyone loves him, he is humble , has never complained and is doing very well. I´d hate to see Keylor in another team or being substitute again.
If Madrid sign him it is because they have some kind of debt or unwritten commitment . In any case , He will be the keeper of national team so the reasons are understandable.
Hopefully the player won´t hide like last summer and there won´t be summer soap opera.
In the last poll in Marca, near 70% think that we don´t need him

I hope that one way or another he's still with us next season, but it's obvious that we don't deserve him. We're a mediocre team that's not showing any ambition, and we have no business having a keeper like DDG.

Sad thing is, any player who's any good should be seriously considering leaving ATM. Those who aren't, it's probably because their level wouldn't get them a better team/ bigger salary, or they're lacking in ambition.

A player like him should be winning Champions league s and World cups.. he's a legend in the making.

Surprised the stories have taken this long, it was obvious he'd be going as soon as it fell through in September.

He has to go. I feel ashamed when he carries this team, he doesn't deserve this

We should go for Oblak if DDG does go. 18 months ago I'd have said Begovic but he's looked very unsteady whenever he's stepped in for Cortois. If Butland continues his improvement then he'd be worth look but he's a way off at the minute.

Butland would be my first choice to replace him.

Same here. If we get any players in exchange would rather outfield players. As they have several who will be getting moved on in the summer by the looks of things & we're in dire need of better caliber outfield players, rather than a keeper who isn't as good in exchange!

I wish he'd stay and maybe Jose can talk him into staying but I don't blame him one bit for leaving.

Damn you LVG and Woodward for this predicament. It could have been prevented.

No, I want him at United.

I'm a United fan, not a David De Gea fan.
That is the bottom line. I really don't understand the replies "we don't deserve him", " he is too good for us". We are Man Utd ffs. He is being paid handsomely for a keeper and is widely regarded as one of the best in the business. Sure he has to pull off miracle saves for us in matches but isn't that what he is supposed to be doing as a GK?

It really grates me when people cry as if DDG is Mother Teresa and Scarlett Johansson rolled into one and we are some guy who does not have a penny to his name and has just married this chick the day before he is going to prison on account of conviction for three murder charges!

Since for him there is a personal side to wanting to move (or at least that is what it seems) we might have lost him even if we weren't such a mess.

It is funny that Real keep on pushing for him when the GK is their last problem and they have much rebuilding to do

Typical rather than funny

Wouldn't mind if we sold him in the summer. I mean I don't want him to go, but better this summer than last year. We're in a very strong negotiating position and can easily get >40 mil for him.

I hope De Gea stays, but I can see him going if he is a priority for Florentino.

A lot of people mention Butland, but what is your view on Oblak, Horn, Perin, Leno and Donnarumma?

I think they have the potential to be really good keepers.

Should have sacked LVG in Dec and banked on things improving enough to keep him.
