'Real to return for De Gea' - Guillem Balague 11/03/2016

Fan's dilemma : Would we like to see De Gea at a club where he would actually get some rewards for his perfomances in terms of champions league and silverware ?.....

I want him at United, obviously... I'm a United fan

I would 100% understand if he wanted to move to a club where he can win stuff... He's not a United fan.

Yeah, we've sure showed those fools since then!

3 years since Fergie retired - our highlight being in that time a run of 3 games, to secure a top 4 spot. Considering how passive we are, another 5 years of the same isn't out of question.

I wonder if Jose is scouting for keepers.

I'd be surprised of Jose comes in and doesn't opt for Butland if De Gea goes, he's always appreciated a English core and we'll be two more down in that regard in the next 18 months at least..

I only care about United, so there's no dilemma for me, the club is always first and foremost, De Gea is still young so I would like him to stick it out another season if we bring Jose in, give it a chance to get better under someone that actually knows what they are doing.

Not like it has been any less of a nightmare but I couldn't even imagine this season without him. If he wants to go, that's fair and natural, so adios to him. Like I said in the match thread, this team doesn't deserve a player like that. The best bit of business Fergie did since Ronaldo.

Well, with a release clause in his contract he obviously wants to leave. It's a shame, but what can you do. Ship him out in the summer and bring someone who wants to be here on the long run.

He has to go, way too good for us at the minute.

No, I want him at United.

I'm a United fan, not a David De Gea fan.

Yes i understand, its what we want from the fans perspective, but what if De Gea himself is fed up and wants to move to Madrid for a more prosperous phase of his career ? Would we actually disagree with that ?

Won 3 trophies in 5 years, including the Barclays Premier League, so he has experienced how it feels to be a champion, but the title charges post Fergie have obviously been below par, so i personally would not blame him IF he would decide to depart.

I understand the rationale, but his well-being is not my primary concern.

It's a question of do I want him to go and win stuff in Madrid so he's personally successful or stay here and fight to get us back on top. It's not a tough choice.

Indeed

I'm convinced this is a three year nightmare.

Nonsense, this is real life. Now give the water lizard overlords your intestines and ask Hitler to pass the potato salad.

Obviously we all want him to stay but he is actually too good for us atm. Last summer the move to Real made sense, this summer it's an absolute no brainer.

Even before we get to that point, I (and plenty of others last summer) was of the view that him wanting to move home, to a city where his partner lives and he loves, to a club that can afford him a higher standard of football and a living environment he's more comfortable with, was the most natural thing in the world. When you take into account our issues at present he could reasonably think that if he stays he won't play for a top side before he's in his late 20s.

As a United fan I don't have to like it, but the logic is there for all to see.

Seems no different from the Suarez or Ronaldo deals, where he attempted to leave but it didn't go through. He re-signed and it was basically all set that he'd be able to leave the following summer at a high price. I'd expect it to happen before the Euros even. Wouldn't be surprised to see his fellow Spaniards leave too with Mourinho's arrival.

Would prefer it if he stays or even if Barca gazump Real last minute, but either way, can't begrudge him the move all things considered.

Yup, would prefer it a lot if we sell him to Barcelona.

DDG is leaving and thats best for his career. At RM, he can be recognised as the best keeper today and after a few years, best of all time. This won't happen staying with us. No one has the right to say that he is ditching us or anything. Whatever he chooses, I'd be happy for him

Not like we should be too keen to strengthen Barca even more , but I don't have much liking for Madrid at all.

Also, we can use it as our Neymar sweetener ;)

Lolz

I'm the same. I'm mostly interested in ter Stegen going the other way. Neymar, I have my doubts. :wenger:

He's not exactly going to be winning anything at Madrid though, so its still an odd decision from that perspective. Obviously there are massive draws.

Why would Barca be interested in DDG? They have 2 fabulous GKs. I'd rather try for Ter Stegan should DDG leave, because Navas doesn't look like the guy who wants to join us judging by reports last year.

Regular UCL, a league title once every 3-5 years now, which may improve later, Chance to be recognised as best in the world and possibly all-time, a better defence and hence lesser work

I'd personally have Navas over Ter Stegen, but then again, I'm an expert on neither.

Yeah, Neymar is but a pipe dream in Eds imagination

Each to their own I guess. The silver lining might be that we won't find it hard to find a replacement. Someone obviously not as good as him, but a better goalkeeper than Lloris.

At this point I'd rather we sell him to Barca. I can't see how in the world we can convince him to stay, not least if he's got a get-out-of-jail clause, which let's be honest, that's what it is.

Would it not sit better with his Atletico roots to play for Barca anyway.
I dont think De Gea simply wants to return to Spain.

He wants to go back to Madrid, who for all their nonsense are still the biggest club in Spain. I doubt he cares much about the Atletico thing either, he seems very thick skinned and any jeers would just spur.

I fear this will be like the Ronaldo situation. We'll be forced to watch in amazement as he puts in master class perfomances after another. In a few years, I think common consensus will be that he is the best gk in the world.

But we'll move on. We always do. Roll on whoever our next keeper will be.

Barca's dominance wont last forever, especially with Messi aging.

Yes, they'll still have a lot of good players, but nothing close to Messi level. Madrid can easily sign those calliber of players too.

I think he can win trophies there, and I think he will.

Wow, why are some in here thinking that Navas might come to a club like United who are in disarray, don't have champions league, no star players, no proper manager?

Imagine how utterly awful things might be next season if Van Gaal remains in charge (and yes, I still think he will). De Gea leaves, Navas would be mad to swap the other way and what other ambitious keeper would? The same can probably be assumed of players in other positions too. We might be looking back on this season fondly.....

Navas has been very good every time I've seen him. Is it just a status thing for Madrid, that they have to have the best Spanish goalkeeper? Their goalkeeper is the absolute least of their worries right now.

Agreed. If United can turn DDG into Navas and 20-30M, it´s a huge loss, but not devastating.

I really hope he's replaced by someone good, if this happens. I don't feel assured at all by Sergio Romero's appearances so far.

Still clinging on to the hope of De Gea being disenchanted by Real after that shit they pulled last summer.

The only way Van Gaal remains is if he delivers CL football for next season. That doesn't look likely at all right now.

Stop doing this to yourself. Wait for next season before lamenting what will happen.

After yesterday his price would have gone up. Crucial to hang on to him.

I am starting to think that we might be looking at a five stretch of wilderness years at least.

I am actually quite convinced we are looking at that.
We have absolutely bare bones in our squad.

The summer will be a big disappointment. We need 5-8 top players. We won't get them.
