Nothing that we didn't all suspect would happen, but I can't imagine how precarious we are going to look under another keeper. Unless the rest of the mess is miraculously sorted out this summer.

I'd love it if DDG turned his nose up at RM but, let's face it, that ain't going to happen and to be perfectly honest I wouldn't begrudge him leaving based on the shower of sh!te playing in front of him presently

Honestly will anyone blame him for leaving? Not that Real Madrid aren't in a mess themselves.

Their mess is lesser than ours. They will be in the Champions League next season.

I am starting to think that we might be looking at a five stretch of wilderness years at least.

Can't blame him deserves to be playing at a higher level to that we are currently playing in.

People said this during the Moyes era as well and we qualified next year. Rest of the teams in PL aren't that great. Our squad is ok and will be very good if filled with decent additions. We are managed by a moron though.

Navas has been very good every time I've seen him. Is it just a status thing for Madrid, that they have to have the best Spanish goalkeeper? Their goalkeeper is the absolute least of their worries right now.

That and the fact that DDG is better than Navas. Real want the best, always.

I don't begrudge him for leaving at all, really. I mean when you pull off 4-5 amazing saves every game and your team still loses it must be pretty fecking frustrating.

Why the feck would be a release clause, and such a low one, in his contract? Stupid. If he goes we are in even more trouble, any keeper we get will be a downgrade and he's the only world class player we have. Navas is suited to La Liga, not the PL and he never wanted to come here. Butland is the only real option we have, big downgrade but he's English so there's that.

So we'll lose the one world class player we have and replace him with a player who's substantially worse?

Sounds about right.

He's likely to leave, if we're all being honest. And no one can blame him for it.

Its a sad state of affairs that none of us are begrudging him leaving but I wouldn't blame him as he's too good for us at the moment. Last time round most felt he owed us but now its us that owe him.

Whatever happens, we'll do substantially better our of him leaving this season than we would have on deadline day last season.

Every journalist is saying there's is a release clause but can't give a figure.
Mitten says although he doesn't know the number, he's convinced it's more than €50m.

What can you do? He deserves much better and it's not like the market is flooded with world class keepers up for grabs.

That's about £39m. I think the bid we accepted in the summer was £29m + Navas which sounds about the same.

He deserves to be playing at the very top level, and we are both a) incredibly far away from that level and b) seem to have no interest in getting to that level.

I'm deperessed today.

£29m including Navas, I think? He was valued at £10-12m, from memory?

Well, yeah, I'm not really taking issue with him possibly wanting to leave, or us giving him a release clause as a means of getting him to sign a new deal. It's more the inexorable decline that this stuff signifies that grates. We don't have the pull to get one of the top keepers in the world so we'll scratch around and be worse off than when we started.

isnt the court of arbitration for sport saying they will hear the real madrid appeal before the summer transfer window? - so in theory they may have the ban for this summer?
In which case he may stay for another season - and yes I am clutching at straws

Yeah but it'll all be worth it so we're not seen as a sacking club, right?
Long day for me so I'm probably missing the obvious, but are the two related? I imagine DDG's future isn't really tied up in who the manager of United is, for the most part.

At this point I'd rather we sell him to Barca. I can't see how in the world we can convince him to stay, not least if he's got a get-out-of-jail clause, which let's be honest, that's what it is.

Would it not sit better with his Atletico roots to play for Barca anyway.

I wonder if Jose is scouting for keepers.

I think he's suggesting that if we'd booted LVG in December we might have CL next season to be better placed trying to keep Dave.

Fan's dilemma : Would we like to see De Gea at a club where he would actually get some rewards for his perfomances in terms of champions league and silverware ?.....
No, I want him at United.

I'm a United fan, not a David De Gea fan.

I think the only way we were ever going to keep DDG was with CL football next season, at a minimum. With that likely down the drain now due to our incompetence when it comes to sacking LvG then he really has no reason to stay around.

I reckon if we had the CL next season and (more than likely) Mourinho coming in he could've possibly been enticed to stay. Obviously speculation, though.

Yeah I think you're right.

Yeah we're pretty fecked at the moment, you can't blame him for leaving. He's 26 now, and the level he's been playing at for the last few seasons deserves to compete and make a difference right at the top, rather than waste his prime scrapping and failing to get a top 4 spot.

It's the same with Di maria, as much as he acted the dick he was the reigning Champions League final man of the match and World cup finalist at the ripe age of 26. It's no wonder he was disillusioned, when he realised the shit he was in for here.

Judging from De Gea's thread last season and in the summer, some were saying they hope he fecks up his career, gets injured etc, so I'd assume no.
