Real Madrid vs Manchester United

RT @OllieHolt22: Believe Kagawa starts for United tonight. Jones and Carrick in heart of midfield

What is this based on?

I hope to god we are playing more than just Jones and Carrick in the middle.

4-4-2 would be an incredibly brave move at the Bernabeu, even more so if Carrick is your only passing midfielder.

If it is indeed just Jones and Carrick in the middle and Kagawa I would imagine we are follow the model of previous years in Europe and lining up as follows:

(Away vs Shalke 2011)

In that game, Giggs floated as an attacking midfielder, Rooney attacked from the left, Hernandez stretched them and led the line, Carrick controlled the midfield and Park worked his socks off doing defensive work and driving forward, Valencia provided width.

Tonight, if we are indeed lining up like that I can see us playing the following players:

Similar plan with Kagawa as the attacking midfielder, Rooney coming from wide and using the left channel, Van Persie as a target man, Carrick looking to control midfield and Jones working his socks off defensively but also looking to drive the ball forward. Either Valencia or Nani providing us width.

Espresso before sport is great. I love it.

Kagawa could do really well I guess, if it's not as physical as the PL

Kagawa on the left and coming in the help the midfield, along with Rooney dropping deep should allow us to match Madrid in the middle. The only worry is leaving Evra alone against Di Maria.

Agreed, I think he can shine in this type of game, he always seemed like a player that would add more to us in the CL than the league.

If he is right about Jones and Kagawa, then it will almost for sure be the diamond.
De Gea
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Carrick Jones Cleverley
Kagawa
Rooney RVP

I would f.a.p to this formation.

Jones-Carrick-Cleverley in the middle with Valencia-Rooney on the flanks and Van Persie as lone striker?

Big trust in jones ahead of
ando and Tom

Thats the team I thought we'd play only wasn't sure if we'd play Valencia or Kagawa to be honest. Would much rather we went with

De Gea
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Carrick Anderson Cleverley
Valencia Rooney
RVP

I've got the flu and I'm drowsy as feck at the moment. Biggest match of the season and I'll probably be struggling to stay awake during it.

feck you, flu.

Souness - 3 European Cups
Schmeichel - 1 CL medal and recognised as one of the all time great GKs
Redknapp - .....

feck off Jamie, they should've had Salgado there instead.

Whoever progresses out of Real Madrid and Manchester United will win the Champions League for my money.

I don't see it being Barcelona's year in Europe.

Hope that Cleverley starts would be a real shame if he misses out so a lesser player, technically plays. I want to see a real spectacle!

Have they had Salgado back in this season? Liked him as a pundit.

I think they had him on the La Liga games early in the season. Would've liked to have had a Madrid perspective on the panel, or at least someone who has an opinion and doesn't just say recycled cliches.

I'm on the wine and already half done. Tonight is the making of Rafael. Next year every fecker will be trying to get him.

Why the feck do they keep booking Redknapp? He brings literally nothing to the table in these things.

So if we don't score tonight, we're not going through, even though 0-0 is better than the score you'd be content with (2-1 defeat)? You lost me.

Because I think Madrid will score. Not that hard to understand.

It seems like Real Madrid do plan to show up tonight.

Here's the team bus leaving their hotel

Marca think it'll be Varane at the back with Ramos.

Alonso is apparently still a doubt.

Score predictions?

I'll go 2-1 to Madrid, which I would actually take with confidence of progressing.

You know when your a kid and you"re so excited that you have far too much energy.....

Ronaldo is still playing with an ankle injury, right? What are the odds he aggravates it in the third minute and renders all the planning and worry about him unnecessary?

Though more likely a 2-1 loss. Di Maria with one of them.
