Real Madrid need to get ready for a terrible season | It’s happening

I think you get carried away. Cristiano is the best in what he does but someone like Kane or Lewandowski would have allowed them tonplay in an at least similar fashion.

I still think they have the best midfield in the world by the way. Kroos-Modric-Casemiro was never overrated.

Spot on, any decent form striker and Madrid are top of the table

Im not sure even Real Madrid have enough money for Kane. 200mil?

Madrid have been saving money since 2014, so they probably have it. What I'm not sure about though, is whether they would want to pay that much for him instead of any other. Knowing Florentino he'd rather use it for someone like Neymar instead of Kane, but if the results are very bad, and I have a feeling they will very bad, he will probably want to sign three stars as he did in 2009.

It was, 2016/17 was the only season where they played like the best midfield in the world and even then with the amount of rotation Zidane did, the truth is they didn't even play together that much.

Their midfield has had obvious problems for ages, it was only able to dominate in certain situations and it's rarely able to cover for their attacking fullbacks. They dominated plenty of games in that area because they were able to have Isco, Benzema and even Ronaldo falling deep and they managed to overcrowd teams there. Ronaldo aside their attack has been completely average and yet they were breaking goalscoring records.

He was a lot more than the goals and he's a very different player than a Kane or Lewandowski. He was the reason they could even play that midfield and attack through the flanks a lot more often than any other top team in world football. And he was the main reason they were as versatile as a team and able to adapt to pretty much every circumstance in attack. Having a Kane or Lewandowski would have obviously massively helped in these games but they don't win any Champions League with any other player in his place, at least playing the way the style they were playing.

Post WC fatigue, a team that looked to be coming towards the end of their cycle even while winning the CL, and losing their talisman.

They will probably turn it around by the time the CL knockout rounds start but they have a tricky transition ahead of them.

He'll get sacked after Clasico with Conte appointed, then they'll go on and win CL again.

I know Real Madrid are weaken this season after losing Ronaldo and Zidane. But are they that bad?

Worth remembering they had lots of poor La Liga results last season. Leganes also knocked thme out of Copa Del Rey on home turf.

This season however I doubt they'll be a champions league win to paper over the cracks.

That forward line Asensio-Mariano-Vazquez is Villarreal quality.

They're going to spend a lot next summer. Well, they're forced to with the current state of the team.
Problem is they are or will build a new stadium. And the type of players they want or need these days cost a lot of money.

Did they start investing in this stadium thing ? If they did already they will be really fecked but if not yet, I can see they postponing this for some time now.

They probably thought of this idea as they believed the team is good enough to withstand some more few years without major signings but it sure as hell appears not now, so they'll change their planning I guess.

Spend a lot? Hazard isn't signing a new contract, Erickson's contract is running down, they will offload some for big money to rich pl clubs. They plan their signings well in advance now rather than a scatter gun approach like us. One defender and a decent striker( could be cavani or lewandowski). Still get their squad way cheaper than a lot of Epl clubs.

From what I read or hear from their fans is that it is a Florentino obsession, reason why they haven't invested big since who? Bale? Kroos was a good price for them, don't remember if Modric was first than Bale. But the Neymars or Kanes will cost a lot to them. Not mentioning Mbappé. Maybe Hazard is the more affordable to them.

Hazard won't be enough imo. They will need to spend a lot on a striker and can't see them moving for declining Lewa or 32 years old Cavani. They'll need to target someone like Icardi to settle them for the future.

So basically a complete new attack needed.

James is their last big signing in 2014 iirc.

But as I said Perez had been thinking the team is good enough to go several years without pumping more money and he can shift investment into other targets like the stadium. He'll probably change his mind now.

He just needs 1 good summer with the correct buys then he can stop spending for several next years again.

Mariano's haircut is an abomination. They deserve to lose for allowing him on the pitch.

Don't think their fans will take Icardi very well, may be aguero? Who knows. Lets see. Striker could be a problem area due to lack of top tier quality but other zones they will get them on the cheap.

New stadium? I thought they were just adding another tier and roof?

I too think Florentino is obssessed about getting Neymar and sticking a finger up to Barca so he seems to have actually taken his eye off the present waiting for that to happen next year.

Aguero? A guy who played for Atletico? Oh yes they would be so excited about that one. :D

Has he not played this season?

First few games he played well but injuries make him non factor since.

Raul De Tomas just scored again for Rayo, can Madrid recall him in January? Could be a new Morata/Jese for them.

Selling Cristiano Ronaldo and replacing him with Mariano Diaz must be the most stupid decision ever made in football. I know they have Bale and Benzema as well and that Diaz is a reserve, but it’s never going to be the same. Lopetegui looks like a loser and ends up as a loser. See how far greed takes you in this game... he’ll sadly end up with enough money to live in luxury for as long as he lives.

I'm not fan of all the decisions that have been made during the summer, but I feel the situation is really not that simple.

Ronaldo has been sold after being 9 seasons at Real Madrid. His best years belong to Manchester United and his former club, where he has won 4 Champions Leagues in the last 5 years. He's 33 years old. Every club's dream is to sign stars before they start to shine and sell them before they start to decline, especially if they demand very big wages in their final stage. Also, if your squad has a few players like these, the transition should be made in the less tragical way for the club. Marcelo, Modric, Ronaldo, Ramos are way too important to be substituted in a very short period of time.

Also Mariano is not Ronaldo's substitute. Ronaldo's substitute will probably be Hazard and/or Neymar in one year time. Hazard would be way cheaper with one year remaining in his contract, in case he doesn't want to renew. To make a transition things like this are quite important as well.

Having said this, some of the supposed stars at Madrid have been very disappointing to say the least. The squad is way worse than 2 years ago, but not as bad to lose vs CSKA, Levante and Alaves. I think that off form players, some injuries in some key positions and bad luck with the chances have also played a part on this.

Don't get me wrong. Ronaldo has been/is one of the best players ever, but as much as I would have wanted to, he won't last forever.

It's not that hard to turn it around for them tbh
They haven't spent since 2014 but, if I remember correctly, there was an interview with Perez where he stated that work on the new stadium will start in 2020?
Surely they got a lot of cash from winning cl 4 times out of 5 and not really spending that much, but a new stadium will cost ~1 billion. (Unless Perez does some sort of nasty scheme with his construction company and does a takeover of the club)

In reality they need just a few changes:
- Hazard
- new RM as Bale is feking shot since he was 26
- new CB (Nacho + Varane is a bit risky)
- new CF (Icardi?)
- 120 mil hazard, 130-150 icardi and most of the job is done.

Almost like when we replaced him with Valencia

Sky sources reporting Lopetegui is about to be sacked, uh oh

LOL. His career has been completely rekt in few months after getting sacked twice in a row by Span and Madrid. He didn't give a feck about Spain for the sake of Madrid earlier and he's paying the price now. Serves him nicely.
