Real Madrid need to get ready for a terrible season | It’s happening

This is an absolutely disastrous, abysmal performance... Keeping Lopetegui any minute longer is a huge mistake. At the moment we still have chances in all competitions but it's obvious he isn't the right fit (and I doubt he is a great coach). We need a new impulse, new ideas that work because 3 games in a row without scoring? And we never looked like scoring in those three games... This is the worst since the Alcorconazo, completely shambles... I would even take Mourinho over Lopetegui any day of the week... Realistically it should be Conte, Guti or Raul - but Florentino has to act NOW, waiting any longer just damages our chances to win anything this season...

Heard it here first, three weeks ago ;)

And the rest was pretty spot on, too. Everyone who knows the club well could see weeks ago that Lopetegui was in WAY over his head...

He has no longer got Ronaldo in his prime, & the rest of them are not as good as they are hyped up to be. Modric an exception.

Bale in place of Ronaldo is not a huge downgrade.

He would have:
Benzema/Mariano for Benzema/Higuain
Bale for Ronaldo
Asensio/Isco for Ozil
Modric for Di Maria
Kroos for Alonso
Casemiro for Khedira
Ramos
Varane
Marcelo
Carvajal for Arbeloa
Courtois for Casillas/Diego Lopez

I'm confident that he would be fine but I hope that he won't go back to Real Madrid. This is a team that a great manager can work with.

More rubbish being spouted about player due to a poor manager, the squad is very good, the current manager is just an ass, unless you think Zidnane was some sort of great genius.

They do however need a striker

It is a huge downgrade. The first reason being the fact that Bale is a great player when he isn't injured, and he gets injured A LOT. Seing Real Madrid with an attack line such as Asensio/Mariano/Vasquez is just ridiculous.

The second reason is the fact that Benzema was great when he played for Ronaldo, now that CR7 is gone, Benzema is pretty much useless since he doesn't seem very complementary with the other two. So you not only lost Ronaldo, you also lost Benzema and the entire collective balance that was created in the team for years now.

Lopetegui is so out of place... fielding Lucas, Asensio, Mariano, Bale... to end a game with 70% possession is absurd, he's stuck between the old Real Madrid and the one he has in his head but obviously doesn't have the balls to bet for.

He has to either adapt the old gameplan to a worse version (Cristiano was the gem of that style) or either try it with his own ideas, Casemiro, Modric, Kroos, Ceballos and Isco... and only a striker or Bale on a free role like he asked Benitez to play 3 years ago. It would be "so sad" so watch him fail without having the personality to use the players and style he obviously craves for the team.

Possession football but 52 crosses with only one forward on the field that has any kind of aerial prowess (Mariano and Bale later, who plays as a winger), no professional manager can be so dumb to go this route because that's just his plan.

This is Lopetegui vintage: back at Porto same problems: tons of possession, but lacked end product. In a lot of games, the quality of the players would give the edge, but in other games the possession was mostly sterile and small teams in Portugal were more than happy to sit back and let Porto have the ball, since Porto would need an individual effort to break into the opposition box.

Ishdalar is spot on, and we do appear to have more trouble creating chances this season, but then again, we played 12 games, and were really bad in 4. Against Sevilla we showed up in flip flops, nothing to do with tactics, espanyol and alaves were the two really bad games were we just couldn't create anything. The supercup against Atletico was the other one, but it was the first game of the season and against atletico, a team we've had trouble creating anything against in pretty much every game since Simeone showed up. Even when we smashed them 3-0 we pretty much had the 3 goals for chances

Heard a lot from here saying with Ronaldo gone Benzema and Bale would score tons without Ronaldo holding them back... turns out people are just... clueless.

Bale's problem has never been Ronaldo. He was most of the time very decent when fit but it's just so rare. He barely has the time de recover and get back in rythm and... he's injured again.

Benzema is a very different issue. He was Ronaldo's best assistant in the team for years now. That's the only reason they kept him last year, he didn't score much but brought an interesting balance, combining with offensive players, defending etc. When Perez was considering getting rid of him, Zidane and Ronaldo were pushing so he stays because he was very important in this very specific role. Now that CR7 is gone, he's just an average CF and he might be too old to change the way he plays again. I'm pretty sure they'll sell him this summer (or even in winter if Real manages to find a good 9).

Mourinho? It’s only tabloid BS however a penny for Sergio Ramos thoughts :p

Literally anyone? :wenger:

Any decent forward. They obviously wouldn’t get as many goals as Ronaldo but even he would go through some brutal slumps himself now and again.

If they got a decent forward who could even get them 4-5 goals at this point of the season they’d be on top of the table.

Everyone who thinks this is about missing CR hasn't watched the matches and/or knows nothing about football. The fact that the team is sleepwalking through the opening 10-15 minutes of every game has nothing to do with CR, the fact that the defense is as fragile as it is has nothing to do with CR and if I remember correctly CR hit as many posts or more during the first half of last season so he would probably just hit the post or crossbar at the moment, too. It's a phase that will pass, maybe already tomorrow and in the Clasico. The only question is if Lopetegui is already gone by then. But as I said in many posts in this thread previously I think he is in way over his head, committed crucial errors and never made this his team. He is still playing the Zidane team instead of creating his own RM - and now his time has run out. Never gave Vinicius a real chance, never used Asensio as false 9, threw Reguilon to the wolves in Moscow, never gave Carvajal and Marcelo a rest so both got injured... but still if we win convincingly vs Pilsen and get three points from the Clasico the truth is nothing really has happened...

You haven’t heard of a man called David Moyes.

The team always sleepwalked through plenty of games and the defense has always been very fragile... the truth is it often didn't matter and they turned it up in the Champions League. Everyone who has watched these players can tell you they have no chance of winning the Champions League this season. It was all about winning La Liga this year and it doesn't really help if after 10 games you're in the bottom half of the table.

Real Madrid have gone a record breaking amount of minutes without scoring a goal 2 months into their first season after their greatest goalscorer ever left and you're actually trying to say it has nothing to do with him leaving?

Just a few minutes after this great comment too.

Lock him up already... at least Hoeness did actual time, Ronaldo will get away with everything he did and tell you how he is just hated for being good looking, rich and successful (which he has already done btw).

Maybe you should start watching the matches and base your football opinions on what happens on the pitch rather than letting all the bottled up hatred get in the way of that. At least you're honest though so that's an improvement on how this usually goes

He’s banned now :p

Define decent ? Who on the market was out there who could be a decent enough replacement ?

Hence why we didn't replace him

Still, again, the biggest problem right now is form, team-wide. Marcelo has been injured and not surprisingly out attack dropped off the planet the moment we lost him, and suddenly resurfaced the moment he came back. Isco has been out, Carvajal is out, Bale has been out, Modric, Kroos and Varane are still dealing with post world cup syndrome, and Sergio Ramos appears to have suffered a sudden bout of presumed omnipotence and convinced himself he's beckenbauer and can do whatever the feck he wants. He needs to be brought back into line first. Then it's about improving fitness and form.

Lopetegui also needs to start forcing the changes he wants to make to our playing style, or revert back fully to Zidane's. Doesn't help that the kids are failing to step up either.

We can still win the CL if Florentino is willing :D

Today Ramos had a problem in training with Reguilón,which ended with a "balonazo"(a strong shoot?) from Ramos.Normal during the trainings but being the captain and Reguilón a player from academy,it seemed especially ugly.
Lately he is very clueless in the field, both with Madrid and with Spain.
Every time he speaks he seems to come to give lessons. In fact, he acts like the club speaker.
He begins to arrive at the moment when he is looked at with different eyes because of his age, when he has accumulated a lot of power and at the same time he is aware that he is in the spotlight, since he knows the story of Raúl and Iker.
It has nothing to do with Lopetegui and the current situation but I am curious about what will happen with Ramos during this season and what his relationship with the club and the new coach will be like.

Ramos might be ushered out to clear the way for Madman Mou and his Travelling Circus.

Absolute disgrace by Ramos.. If it were one of the top arrived guys he had reacted to this way I would waved it away as something that happens every now and then on a training pitch.. But to act like this as a captain towards a youth player is awfull. Especially since there was nothing going on, there way no ill intent with the guy or too rough play.. Not only does he react once in a split second of annoyance, but a while later again after a couple of breaths...

Real classy Sergio.. Real classy...

Ramos acts as if Real Madrid was his own team. Shooting PK, free kicks, attacking constantly at the end of games and sucking defensively. They do need a mean coach with a huge reputation or he's going to get crushed.

We're going through the usual cycle: build great team, hire player friendly manager, win, team loses hunger, blame the manager for being too nice to the players, sack him, replace him with a disciplinarian, sack him after 6 months because the players don't take to him, replace with another team friendly manager, sign new players, win.

Rinse, repeat

Except that this time the GOAT is gone. I'm curious, whar new players? Mbappé? Only if Floren is amassing 400 millions.

We'll buy a cow. Cows are way better than goats, everybody knows it

Why did they allow Bale to stay? The guy is not serious he's always getting injured.

I'm glad they did, because the alternative would have been us spending a fortune on him

I've had it. We should sack that moron tonight
