I'm still a bit stunned by that. The only possible explanation is that they were gracious to Agger and let him go back to his old club for practically nothing as a gesture for his years at Liverpool, but you can't afford to do that sort of thing unless your squad is lined with excess in the first place. In a season where they've signed a whole new defense, selling off their defensive veteran and leader (and for almost no money, at that) is nothing short of stupefying.
