Quite possibly the worst analogy ever.
Suarez leaving removed the belief that had built up last season.
Our party balloon was inflated to the max, stretched tight by months of poetry in motion and WE and more importantly THE PLAYERS 'believed' we'd win. They were charging onto the pitch, buoyant, focused and confident. The balloon was so big we couldn't quite get the knot tied off.
The way the season ended had already let a little bit of air out as Mourinho, then Pulis and finally Pellegrini got hold of the balloon and did that annoying thing and stretched the loose end to let some air come screeching out. Then the World Cup removed any remaining puff our key English contingent might've had to reinflate it.
But make no mistake, Suarez pulled the knitting needle out and jabbed it in. The new signings came in expecting to find the party still going on, only to see bits of burst balloon lying around the floor. The belief gone.
The new one is being blown up every week, but so far it's full of holes and is as flat as it was in the summer. Roy broke the lad with the most puff to get things going again and suddenly there was no SAS to help out, just an SOS so far unanswered.
It's time to start again from scratch. Newcastle away felt like capitulation. There was nobody even willing to give it a go. Tough fixtures can sometimes be exactly what is needed. The hardest part of any balloon is that first breath, getting it going. Time to forget about the whys and wherefores of our situation and get blowing again. Everyone. Fans, management and players together, cos balloons don't inflate themselves.
Not quite...
Hmmm, could be argued that they've been blowing all season. Not quite...
Why is it that every time they feck up and we can have a laugh, we feck up the next day?
Yeah and I was also told that we would get absolutely smashed by Chelsea "It will be a rout!" is what one dipper quoted to me.They lost to Newcastle, we lost to City with 10 men for most of the match. Not quite the same.

Heh. That's not too bad tbf
There's a certain chess parallel with the way Rodgers has set us up this season called Kotov-syndrome. It's one where a player takes extraordinary steps to come out of a very complicated situation where he ends up making more mistakes, usually blunders, than if he'd just reacted with his first thought. In essence the player overcompensates for his complicated situation by handing his opponent the game.
Steven Gerrard is the closest you'll come to finding the Queen of chess in football. But much like the queen of chess, Gerrard is often let down by the pawns around him.
Demba Ba must have been a Bishop. Those pawns around him being the bits of pitch that he slipped on.
Bit of a spoof vid, but made me chuckle:
Steven Gerrard is the closest you'll come to finding the Queen of chess in football. He can play anywhere, move anywhere, equally powerful over long and short distances and when the going gets tough, the one piece you want on the board to take on any situation. But the flipside is that many a game has been won where the queen is kept alive by sacrificing smaller pieces and the king is checkmated on the other side of the board.
"...the one piece you want on the board to take on any situation."
All the balloons at the party, so who's the clown? Not quite...
The problem with parking the bus is we don't have a bus. We don't even have a minivan. We have one of those three-wheel Renault things. The bonnet is tied down with twine.
Put all the spin you want on it but Rodgers has put out what he deems to be a weakened team with a view to the weekend. fecking disrespectful to the club's great name throwing in the towel like that. Pathetic.
Couple of mates flown out there for the game and they're livid, to say the least. If Mancs had put out this team and their fans were ok with it like some are on here, we'd be taking the piss out of them saying Moyesification is complete. Absolutely abysmal team. Play Sterling for 120mins in the mickey mouse cup but rest him in the biggest LFC game for 5 years. Great logic, Brendan.
I think Brentan knows they will lose this game by a big margin no matter what so at least with this weakened team he/the team will have an excuse for it.As a side note their "weakend, disrespectful side" still cost them $112.5m according to The Guardian.
That said, Rodgers is essentially giving up on this game isn't he?

Madrid really couldn't have cared less about the second half. Couldn't even be bother to pretend. It was played like an International friendly, or even a fecking testimonial.
Might be petty, but it pissed me off. Seemed a bit disrespectful
Much rather feck up Chelsea's season then win tonight and get to the next stage.
