I seem to recall Lukaku was injured and unavailable for a number of those games in the first 2 and a half months and obviously when he got fit he was used as a sub initially to build up his match fitness.

There's a definite possibility you don't know what the word means at this point! There's even articles written at the time about it. One literally lists the 4 games he started. 2 in the FA cup, and against Fulham and Burnley. Not marginalized at all. :wenger:

It doesn’t change the facts. Nobody expected us to sign 5 world class players in 1 window. But a defensive midfielder was an absolute must. It’s also ridiculous we are letting Lukaku go without introducing a replacement. I don’t care for the fancy names but have ignored some glaring weaknesses once again. Last summer’s inactivity bit us in the arse and will do so again. Don’t come complaining next summer when we once again miss out on champions league.

We look like moving to a midfield 2, one of them being Pogba. We have Fred and McTominey who can play DM/CM also. We have Periera.

As we have changed formation, we have numbers in midfield to reduce Matic's gametime.

Our starting 2 in a midfield 2 will be Pogba and McTominey, who has been in excellent form pre season.

Its not all doom and gloom and negligence. Like I explained, our squad re-build will take at least 3 windows.

So just look at the improvements made by 3 signings and the integration of youth to refresh the squad and take the positives. This window has made us better.

Currently 4/10 due to the fact that we sold herrera, and are selling Lukaku
If we sign Bruno 7/10.
If we got a striker and right winger, or 2nd Midfielder 10/10

But currently 4/10

Henderson got a good loan.
De Gea is going to sign a new contract.

Defense.
Two good signings.
Hopefully the deadwood will be moved on.

CM.
Lost two midfielders and have signed none.

Attack
Signed James and will probably move on Lukaku.
We still need a right winger.


We should have signed at least two more players.
 
United’s gone from the biggest stage for years to come. Sad but it’s the case. With no activity worth mentioning from Chelsea, Liverpool and City, we should have raised the team to at least a most likely top-4 contender. But with average attack and absolutely poor on midtfield, we are nowhere near that.
 
We signed 2 very good players and a guy with a lot of potential. What baffles me is why we didn't go for Bruno !?!?

And we conveniently forget how many times he started in a row after those months because that doesn’t suit your agenda?
 
Perfect window. We’ve signed 3 so far, everybody’s fall guy is about to leave, the greatest manager/coach the game has ever seen will probably lose his most creative player, Scousers haven’t signed anybody, Chelsea can’t sign anybody, City have signed some nobody.

To crown it all out, we are at last going to give some of our own talented young players a chance.

We’re getting back to what United is all about and I for one am delighted.
 
Going into this window we needed to sign a CB, RB, DMF, AMF, and RW. We've signed CB, RB, and a winger, albeit one for the future.
We should have sold Darmian, and at least one of Smalling/Rojo/Jones. We're selling Lukaku for a decent fee considering he's not in Ole's plans.

4/10 for me. If we sign a starting MF before tomorrow I'll raise to 6/10.

Park was a fantastic player for United, he was indeed a squad player but he had a superb impact on the club. I would be delighted if James ever came near contributing what Park did for the club.
 
Not signing a new midfielder is extremely hard to understand. At the end of the season we should have had a list of 10 candidates lined up who are better than what we have and then there were 3 months to make a deal happen.
 
Badly need a right winger and a midfielder. I've been writing down potential line-ups and we're really going to struggle, particularly if we get any injuries which of course we will.

LW/ST will be filled by Martial and Rashford.

If we play a 4.2.3.1 - we will play Pogba and McTominay as a 2.

So who plays AM and RW? Lingard as AM and Mata as RW? Vice versa? James at RW?

Fred and Mctominay as a 2 with Pogba in the 10?

Then injuries.

It's not good enough. We had to do more and we're going to have problems.

We haven't improved as a whole, we have lost 2 midfielders in fellaini and Herrera, whether he stays or not we have basically lost a 15-20 goals striker in lukaku, we also have matic who will continue to decline and further expose our defence to the opposition's attacks, the same with mata who is on a gradual decline as well, so whilst we have improved our defence going into the new season, we will also be going into the season with a weaker attack and midfield than last season and it's the attacking end of the pitch that truly wins you games.
 
Are we fecking seriously not going to sign a midfielder?

We need two to replace Herrera and Fellaini and we might not sign even one?

It's clear OGS wants a certain type of player playing for the club. Perhaps certain targets weren't available this summer, who knows.

Defence was addressed, what about midfield and attack? How difficult is it to find a better tight winger than Lingard?

Absolute trash by that cnut Woodward. Dumb shit briefed the press on his intentions and barely delivered on them. Should have kept his mouth shut.

Addressed some areas. Maguire took ages and we paid the original asking price - so we dragged out the deal for no real reason, nice one Woodie.

2 first team midfielders have left in Herrera and Fellaini, we haven't replaced them which is a big problem.

Rom looks gone with no replacement, signed James but he looks a lot more comfortable on the left, so we are still without a natural fitting right forward.

so-far failed to move on average squad players like Darmian & Rojo.

Lots of things left to last minute as usual. Not the sign of a club ran smart - no shock there.
 
I just do not understand those who say we have improved. Yes we improved our back 4, we improved that greatly. But we lost 2 CMs and did nothing about that.

Honestly our areas for concern on the pitch just shifted.

More concerning for me is we are not following our own guidance. Ole said we needed 5 in, 6 out and 2 of the 5 in needed to be CMs.

We honestly didnt do half of what Ole said we needed to do. How is that a good window?

Started in 6 out of the 9 cup games under Ole in the cups. Also marginalized.

He might not be in Ole's plans this year, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a first team player last year.

How many times did Martial start for us under Ole? Was he marginalized by him?

He will sell him with academy player to take his role. Is this the proper way to start 50+ games season?
 
Rate our current transfer window. Not the players or their quality - but the window as a whole - did we fix our issues? Defence - yes; MF- no; Attack - no (pls don't count Greenwood's rise) Did we replace deadwoood? No Did we strengthen in each position reqd after last year's debacle? No

5/10 and that is because of the quality we've got.

We have 7 CB's and about 4 LWF's at the club at the moment. Obviously we improved 2 out of 11 positions, but we needed at the very least 3-4 more. Something Ole also identified from the off.

We moved Lukaku and Herrera. Hardly shite compared to Rojo, Darmian and the likes that needed the boot.

Somehow this constitutes for a successful window.

So you’re saying he wasn’t marginalised at the beginning of Oles run, where he only completed more than a half once without a single start? :lol: I suppose that has nothing to do with a certain attacker getting injured and missing 6 games from the middle of February, and a second attacker getting injured and missing 6 games about a fortnight later... You’ve literally posted my evidence for me! At his very first opportunity he’s moved him on. I mean, what more do you want?

4/10. Defense looks pretty good now even if we massively overpaid for Maguire. Midfield and attack are in a worse position than before though, and both badly needed work in the first place.

I'm saying you can't marginalize a player putting him on 9 times out of 13 in your run in where we were in contention for top 4 finish. That's not marginalized. Clearly he believed he was our best option up top when he put him on and there was something at stake.

He might not be his type of striker or that he didn't want him as part of the rebuilt, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't his best option last season, where you couldn't bring in other players in his place.

He obviously wanted different type of striker but ended up with moving him on with no replacement. How is that a good business?

Herrera and Fellaini gone, neither replaced. Lukaku gone, not replaced. Loads of bullshit said in the pre season about how we were shifting the Deadwood and bringing in 5 players. Probably sold a shitload of season tickets and shirts though.

He had not played more than a half 6 times in a run of 7 games, after being the main man under Jose. That’s marginalised. Lingard and Martial get injured in the same game (13th February?), with Mata getting injured a week later and Sanchez a week after that (all of them missed at least 6 games) and lo and behold Lukaku’s stats show him starting games. Funny that. He was played because options were taken away from Ole. And now, at his first opportunity Ole has tried to move him on. I mean, what more evidence do you want?

6/10 for huge investments into our defense. But a lot of points removed for not adressing the midfield or replacing Lukaku a long time before the transfer window closes.
 
We lost Herrera, Fellaini and Lukaku(he was going no matter what) , we haven't replaced any of those players and we have less than 48 hours left of the window.

We finished outside the top 4 so you would think we would be going mental to get back in contention.

We most likely only bought Mcguire on the basis that our net spend would be circa 65 mil at the end of the window. It's an absolute joke.

We didn't just used to win English football, we used to dominate and score shit loads of goals doing it. I'm literally heart broken with what is happening at our club and seeing yes men interviews is making it even worse.
 
It was looking OK considering we'd kinda fixed our defense, but then to go and let Lukaku leave this late for basically the same price is fecking ridiculous.
We still need a DM/CM. I think we'll be ok this year, we might scrape 4th but that's about it.
 
5.5 out of 10 currently.

The 5 for sorting the defence and .5 for adding James to the attack (lets face it we have no idea how he will turn out).

No midfielder and no replacing Lukaku seems so beyond stupid to me.

We can always sell abroad after tomorrow right? So not too fussed at some of the deadwood still being here yet. No one in England will buy any of our players anyway since Sunderland have faded in to obscurity.
