Why is this thread always near the top?

No stories have come out about him in weeks and he’s not a big enough name to keep discussing without fuel

I would imagine it is because we have shown no inclination to pursue any other striker options since announcing we were not going to get jerked around over Kane so this is the only game in town. It also may be connected to posters asking what is going on and why is the thread getting bumped.

I feel your pain. Those posters asking why threads are getting bumped are the worst

Yeah does feel we will be quiet until then apart from Mount, Onana and maybe Rabiot
I'm hoping we can get Mount, Onana and Hojlund done before that. Then a lot will depend on how the takeover process develops.

I'm hoping a new owner is in place by the start of August. And then we can possibly sign another two players on top of the three I've already mentioned. I think another striker and a midfielder who is good in the build up phase will be sought.

We live in hope regarding the Glazers selling the club soon.

Wish that other striker could be Kane but obviously can't afford that,so gonna be more realistic and say Taremi/Dembele. Are you including free agents such as Rabiot or not good enough in build up phase

Muani missed his World Cup hero moment right at the last minute of the Final. He proved he was a bottler on big stages.
Cristiano Ronaldo also proved he was a bottler in 2008 UCL final by being our only player to miss in the shootout. Had a poor career after that bottle job .

I like Rabiot and he can definitely be a net positive for us in a deeper midfield position. But I'm hoping we make a move for a younger midfielder alongside him if possible. I'd like to see us take a chance on a young hot prospect for the deeper midfield role.

Mason Mount is someone that is good in the middle and final third. And we also need a midfielder who is good from the deeper to the middle third.

Which younger midfielder would you like to see for that deeper role then, think it's most likely this sort of player will be targeted in next window. Hopefully in January IF new owners are in place

I'd like to see us take a chance on the young player at Boca Juniors, Alan Varela. He seems to have every pass in the book in a deeper lying midfield position and wouldn't cost a lot either from what's been reported.

Rabiot on a free along with Varela would be good moves imo. We can also rest Casemiro if and when necessary and go with either a double or single pivot with the likes of Rabiot and Varela.

Might be that Erik is still not sure who he wants to fulfill that role after De Jong rejected us. Getting it back on topic I like Hojlund but still feel we might revisit Kane in August

Rabiot is definitely not a first phase midfielder and would not be a good fit to progress build-up from defence to midfield and forwards.
He is a dynamic 8 who presses and is great positionally in the opposition half.

Rabiot was definitely a first phase player at PSG.

Maybe that young guy from Antwerp?

Arthur Vermeeren looks very promising but he's still very young and likely a few years away from being a regular in the United midfield. But he's definitely someone i'd like to see us sign and develop if possible.

I suspect that next season we intend to do with Lisandro Martinez what Guardiola did with Stones and have Shaw playing more as that LCB alongside Varane and Wan Bissaka. Martinez and Casemiro at the base of the midfield will have the necessary mic of aggression, defensive nous and ball recycling whilst Shaw, Varane and Wan Bissaka will provide tge physicality to stop counter attacks. Mount and Bruno are perfect for counter pressing which ETH loves.

I disagree. Rabiot played next to Veratti, who was the build-up player.
Rabiot was utilised as the pivot by Emery in some games with both Veratti and Draxler as interiors. I watched a lot of these games live and one game against Monaco in November 2017 is a clear example of Rabiot being utilised as the pivot with Draxler and Veratti the interiors in a 433.

Looks like a very well balanced player with good technique and composure.
Definitely one for the future.

Fans are desperate. The only deal that’s actually moving along for us is Mount.

I assume he means permanently as I believe it's already been reported he has a trial with them for just this summer

This is why the thread keeps getting bumped, because we're given little morsels like this nearly daily

Didnt Rabiot himself say he disliked playing in that role, and much prefers playing in the box to box role he plays now in Juventus?

Might be priced out of a move though unfortunately because it basically says we expect a world class finished article for the 50-60 mill we’d have to spend on Hojlund, so remains to be seen whether we take the plunge

Yeah I wonder what our valuation is for him if we consider him to be potentially special

What is going on with the price thing. Italy media reporting about max of 60m euro even with add ons. But English media keep upping the price everyday from 40, 50, 60, 70, and now 80. They say Atalanta is asking 80m but then the media from te region saying on 60m top with add ons. Is United is that much hated in the UK that everyone trying to make United pay more and more.

Just makes for a better story/headline if the transfer were to happen and he was to have a difficult spell "Manchester United's £3bn striker flops after not scoring 37 goals on his debut".

The scary part is that headline is very likely to be a thread title on RedCafe as well..

What did the Martial deal wind up costing us in the end? £30M?

Amad Diallo was something like £30m more recently and he's doing great, but at the championship level with several gears to go.

You then have the likes of Vinicius costing almost £50m. And it's taken him a couple seasons to seem worthy of that fee.

As much as I hate it, maybe that's just the going rate now. Makes not signing Haaland for £4m from Molde when Ole managed there and tried to send him our way all the more wild.

What is our board doing scouting players or identifying their potential on the pitch? Do we not have the scouts and Manager for that?
They really need to leave the football with the football people. I won’t question how knowledgeable they are but boundaries and job description et..

You really shouldn't take what the media say seriously about the 'board'. What the words in the tweet are insinuating are that the likes of Richard Arnold and Cliff Baty etc are convinced about the players potential. But in reality what Romano meant was the heads of recruitment are convinced about the players potential.
