It could go either way but I feel like he’s going to get thrown in the deep end and will be starting games asap. We have no reliable alternative, if he doesn’t play and Martial is undoubtedly injured we’re having to play with a false 9 which I’m sure ETH doesn’t want to do

We needed a striker and he was ETH’s first choice (perhaps behind Kane?) he will be playing in my opinion.

Exciting transfer I can’t wait

Definitely. Just hope that the side can manage to create chances for him, because he is pretty good at getting on the end of them. I don't think he will necessarily create a lot of goals for himself.
 
If Martial is fit and can stay fit, then Hojlund doesn't need to be rushed...but we all know that is not possible...so Hojlund is gonna have to start asap.

If he can mop up the ones that Haaland was bagging for city, the ones in the 6 yard box, then that would give him 5-10 goals a season straight away.
 
Its a huge gamble but if it pays off we’ll be in an incredible position. If he scores 15 in the league we could easily be looking at our best season in a long time.

I agree. Initial aim will be to get him up to speed and into the team. He might get “rested” a bit more in his first season but it’s not like we have good options at 9.
 
why is everybody expecting 15 goals from him? that is more than half of all the goals he scored in professional football ever, and we expect him to score it in his maiden season in the PL?

If those 10 to 15 goals are wins by 1 goal margin then that are more than enough.
It's all relative to the situation.

Depends how much he plays really. He didn't play much minutes at Atalanta.

Considering Martial is a hospital patient we can only assume Hojlund will get a lot of minutes. 15 all comps should be the minimum aim If he plays a lot.

I'm of the opinion that I just want all of our new signings to be playing and involved straight away. Don't really see a better alternative in Hojlund's case. Onana starting is a given, imo. Question marks over what the midfield/first 11 looks like with Mount in it, but I'd be expecting him to be playing in the first game, too.

I expect that he gets 30 games and scores 10 goals. That should be a good first season.

I agree, that would be a good first season and a realistic expectation for Rasmus. But would that goal count be enought for United's successful season? I guess the biggest contribution Rasmus can make right now is not so much in terms of goals but in contributing to general play and better team performance. I still have a glimmer of hope that we make a late Kane swoop on deadline day .. a man can dream right?
 
What was the reason for the delay of the announcement? To make a pre-game show on Saturday?

I’m assuming that it’s visa related. It would be incredibly stupid to prevent him getting valuable time training with the squad just to make a big song and dance about his signing announcement.

He is a main striker of Man Utd. Man Utd striker shall score goals with the amount of chances this team is creating, so obviously the expectations are here.

It doesn’t matter if he is 20, 17 or 35 years old.

For comparison, take one currently suspended player who started to play regularly in 19/20 season. He delivered 18G/4A (in all competitions) being significantly younger than Hojlund

I've heard plenty of players say that Smalling is one of their toughest opponents. Just awful with the ball that's his problem.

He arrived too late for the medical apparently.
The deal hasn’t been completed and he isn’t a Utd player yet.
Press reports saying that the deal may be completed by the end of the week, with a formal announcement at the weekend.

Strong and quick and he was always good in duels. I wouldn’t have any concerns that a 19 yo found him a tough opponent.

No I get what you're saying but that is exactly my concern, the expectations and needs of the club are high, but what if he doesnt reach that (which is not unlikely based on his stats so far ) ? Where are the goals gonna come from? Thats why I am not super excited with this deal - the high transfer fee means there will be no other striker signed and its now sink or swim for Rasmus and United. Which is unfair to the kid and also to the team, which I feel was ready to make a title push based on last season but we really needed a sure thing up top.

But how is it possible, injuries apart? Even poor Weghorst missed a dozen of sitters in half a season - and with a good player up top there will be significantly more chances (simply because good player positions himself better).

Of course he will be scoring goals
 
Realistically I see him starting some of the first 5 or 6 PL games but sharing that Main Role with Martial and Rashford. I genuinely think Greenwood might be staying now, irrespective of what fans want, they will make him and his partner do a series of interviews about family life and mistakes made etc, then gradually bring him back, training first then on the bench, then a 20 minute cameo from bench. He won’t be fully integrated until late October/Early November they will not start him period, however well he plays.


Our first seven PL Games Wolves(H), Tottenham(A), N Forrest (H), Arsenal(A), Brighton(H),Burnley(A),Palace(H)

We also. have 2 CL matches on 19th September and 26th September. Those 9 games are critical we had an average start last season with 12 points after 2 games were postponed. This season we need 15/16 points from those 7 games which will not be easy especially Brighton, Spurs, Burnley and Arsenal. I think we will play two different formations home and away.

I can see ETH playing this team against Wolves but a very different team Spurs and Arsenal away.

The key is that only 20 players can be selected premier league and 23 CL, an awful lot of players initially are not going to feature plus actually having more offensive options this season from the bench should start to see the club look to score 75+ PL goals, it’s important to remember we have failed to score more than 60PL goals in both of the last two seasons and Ole managed to do this by having real attacking options on the field and from the bench.

Martial will be the main striker. He cannot manage 2 games a week so he will play 60 minutes with Rasmus covering the rest of his minutes. Between them they should have 20 goals or more.

You offered two examples of Chelsea not selling early and having to let a player go for free to prove your point. I gave you two examples of us selling players early and well. We sold Lukaku for £73m only slightly less than the £80 we paid and we sold Dan James to Leeds for £25, more than the £14m we paid. There are exceptions to every rule like Lukaku and James for us but generally Chelsea make decisions on players quickly and sell them if they think they aren't good enough and we tend to hold on to our players and give the additional chances if they have a bad season like Sancho, Antony, DVB, AWB, Fred, Pogba, Lingard,, Bailly, Maguire etc and by the time we make a descion they have lost significant value and so we have a reputation for selling badly.

Absolutely no chance.

Martial is finished. Can't believe there are still fans of the club who think so highly of him. Even before his injury problems he's never been a top player for us.

We've just forked out a fortune on a player who is seemingly eth first choice, he will be our main 9 this season regardless of age.

Rasmus is going to be the main striker. That’s pretty obvious.
 
Chances are, we will not see much of Martial at all, in fact - with the way it’s going, there will likely be 6 players sharing most of attacking work across the front three - Rashford, Hojlund, Garnacho, Antony, Sancho and a currently suspended player. There is no much space for Martial there

If he is fit and plays at least 75 mins in 35-40 games, he is going to get enough opportunities to score 15-20 goals. Bruno is a chance creating machine. Shaw is also superb with creating chances. I expect Mount and Rashford and Eriksen to join in on the chance creating too. He will have lots of opportunities to score goals. He is also rapid so he will be able to get away from a lot of CBs in the league and be through on goal.

I wouldn't include Antony in that list tbh. We're a much better balanced side when he plays and while his output wasn't out of this world, he did chip in with important goals, and it was his first season in the league so I'm expecting more now that he's settled more.

He may have done, but the 'minutes' part is the real issue and will only continue to be an issue. 51 league appearances over the last 3 seasons out of a possible 114. That means he's more often than not available. You just can't rely on that within the squad.
