Rasmus Højlund | Signed for United

And the relevance of mentioning Rasmus costing €19 million a year ago was what?

If you consider the fee Rasmus went for a year ago as a contributing factor to prove we've overpaid, which was the point you were trying to make

Then in the very same post, championing a player in Kolo Muani, who went for free and had a very limited market a year ago, as someone you would spend this kind of money on, only contradicts your own flawed logic.

So i ask again, what has Rasmus costing €19 million a year ago got to do with anything? If you are happy enough to discount Kolo Muanis much worse market a year ago
If we had signed Muani then as you say there would be mass moaning that he was free and why didn't we sign him then, why didn't we sign Onana when he was free, why didn't we sign Haaland. It will go on and on.

But the amount we have spent this summer doesn't suggest we are struggling for cash which could be construed as Our earlier spending not being much of deterrent either .

All this talk about financial issues regarding transfers is bit of a grey area there are lot of inconsistencies in way things are reported in media and the actual reality reflected by our actions , trying to make sense of all this and incessant moaning and complaints about fees and what not is just an exercise in futility .

We aren't in for the top targets like Bellingham, Kane, Rice etc. Which means we are watching our spending and wage structure. Not saying ETH wanted all three but that we have not landed a single one of them is telling.

Its just nice to sign a forward who's not 30+ years old, with their best days clearly behind them.

He reportedly wanted all three. Infact start of this summer the statement was Rice and Kane were our priority targets

Outside of Kane and maybe Osimhen every option is a risk and would cost about the same as this kid, it just shows how very few elite strikers are actually about and available, look at Madrid they've had to loan Joselu for christ sake

Yes they've loaned Joselu as a stop gap but I'd take weghorst for a year if it meant we were guarenteed to be getting mbappe next season which Real pretty much are.

You're missing the point entirely. Rooney was a generational specimen so the lack of goals were palatable.

That went without saying from the poster.
Each to their own but that seems like a convenient way to always be right.

Make an arbitrary rule about maximum fees for a player with x amount of league goals - be countered with Law and Rooney with same tally and similar high fee before United - totally misrepresent the post and make it out like Højlund is being compared to Rooney - ridicule said poster for claiming Højlund is at Rooney level, despite said poster didn’t make that comparison - then argue that Rooney was a generational talent and doesn’t count in the aforementioned stupid “9 league goals players shouldn’t cost this much”-rule and don’t mention Denis Law - victory. This has been our posts back and forth.

Stats don't support this view. He doesn't excel at anything that those two cannot do.
I watch football so stats can be contextualised. Its ok to disagree though but I would take Tomiyasu above those 2 any day

Kolo Muani and Ramos who are more proven as goal scorers I would expect to command that sort of fee guaranteed.
A year ago this lad cost 19m euros

Why are you so insanely negative? Surely can't be good for you worrying so much about the transfer fee of a big talent.

Kolo Muani scored 15 goals this season, and that was in a full season, 2 of which were penalties. That's 4 more open-play goals than Højlund with over 1000 minutes more played. He is also 25 this year, so how exactly is he a more proven goal scorer? Are you talking about his brilliant season in Nantes the season before with his 12 goals, or the season before that with 9?

Goncalo Ramos would not cost £64m. That is very clear. Benfica are reluctant to let their talents go for cheap. Just take a look at the players they've sold over the last years.

Højlund is a massive striker talent. Yeah, we overpaid, but by how much? Nicolas Jackson, who you mentioned Chelsea got for half the price, does not have his potential. He was close to signing for Bournemouth because Villarreal wanted him out ffs. Only recently he started scoring, and none of the goals were particularly great.

Hojlund thread bingo.

- What about Kolo Muani?
- Goncalo Ramos would be available
- We've overpaid
- He scored 9 goals in 32 games
- Is he fast? He looks slow
- We got rinsed
- Pressure of the price tag
- Weight of the Man Utd shirt
- Wait for Evan Ferguson next summer
- Rely on Martial and Rashford
- He scored 9 goals in 32 games
- What about Kolo Muani?

Didn’t Chelsea just sign a striker for half the price? Didn’t Inter just sign one on a free?

Osimhen not Kolo Muaini and 2x 85m euros is 170m euros
Salary needs to be counted, Osimhen will cost 250k a week or so. Hojlund is on 100k apparently.

Osimhen isn’t a perfect fit either, so why spend a fortune on him? Anyway, we can’t afford it, so you bringing it up is pointless.

As long as you remember not to present your opinion as a widely accepted fact.

Exactly, i respect everybodys opinion, and if they dont like the signing, think its too much money etc, then fair play, they may be correct

But some try that hard to prove their opinion is right, their reasoning dosnt even make sense eventually, ie fees paid a year ago.

Who the hell did everything we say on here is opinion for feck sakes

We have a good right to ask why we didn’t sign Haaland on 2 separate occasions when we had the chance

Missing "pay more for Kane".

Osimhen is available for €200m

You reckon we should have pulled the trigger and sacrificed signing Mount or Onana? Seems counterproductive. I'm glad that we have covered as many bases as we have.
Mount yes don’t particularly like that signing though so I’m biased. Especially as Id prefer we signed a Casemiro backup like Amrabat and I think getting a prolific striker who can press like crazy was more important than a Mount. Again thats just my opinion though

Edit: I would have been perfectly happy with Osimhen and Onana as our only signings this summer too. Thats how much a top class CF was a priority in my opinion.

And then a backup DM if we could with sales.

I really hate Sky Sports, just sound bite, clickbait, bullcrap.

Totally agree...and they are the first ones to criticise whenever a player gets abused online.

Completely ignoring the fact they fuel the social media hate with utter shite like that post you quoted.

Apparently Mitrovitch or Toney :lol::lol:
Toney under slightly different circumstances and at a slightly lower price wouldn't be the worst bet if rotating with Rash and another good striker, but, yeah, he doesn't exactly solve our Immediate need for a CF

I'm not sure if I even ever watched Hojlund play but given his stats and age it's clear he's not finished article so we'll have to be patient with him and not rely massively on him for goals. Rashford will have to repeat last season (perhaps even improve on it), Antony, Sancho, Martial, Bruno, Mount.. Then there's Hojlund who'll surely be improvement on Ronaldo/Weghorst even if he'll be inconsistent.

Nah we did well.

Here’s what would have happened if we had held out for a lower fee (£50m + addons):

We would have gotten him late August for about £80m + add ons, closer to their original asking price, or missed out altogether.

Remember what happened with Antony?
Nah, we did it right this time.

Well done to the staff who made this happen. Of course it's too much, but who isn't nowadays. Football is nuts, and rather ugly in so many ways... we have to get on with it. They wanted £67, they get £60... the young man can play, I can definitely see that and what a platform to really push on! I can't wait to see him. Great for Rashford, Bruno and the midfielders! Be good for Sancho too (if he can pull his finger out...).

We needed another midfielder, a No 9, and a new No 1, and we have them all in place. Well done to ETH, coaching staff and all involved.

Shame about Mainoo, but he'll be great to get back in the Autumn, that will be like a new signing. Quite timely too, no doubt. We have to keep SMT now though.

I hope we can get shot of a few though...
