I disagree, I think it does. Maybe £130m for Osimhen at a stretch.

I know it's a boring thing to do but you also have to take into account the wages and how that's spread along with the fee.

So if Højlund's fee is spread over 5 years, and he's on maybe 1/4 of what Kane and maybe even Osimhen would be paid, the money he costs per year is significantly less.

It's not 'just' £50m more as a transfer fee, it's closer to £100m as a whole package.

The amount of people in here who are so obsessed with the cost of a player. Embarrassing.

It's not your money. We keep overpaying for players, but we often seem to get the players we want, so why is it that big of a deal? Are you worried that Alan from work who is a Liverpool fan is going to give you stick every day for overpaying for a player who doesn't live up to expectations?
Nah they are worried the spending is over, because of overspending on certain players.

People who moan about the price, what were we supposed to do? Start the season without a striker but at least with clear conscience that we didn't overpay? Striker market is HORRIBLE at the moment, we would need more than 120 million for either Kane or Osimhen, so this is where we are at, fecking moaning about everything without looking at the context of the situation is doing my head in.

Can’t understand people getting so wound up over the fee. It doesn’t hugely matter if it’s 55 or 65m up front at this point. We’ve gotten our man. He was always going to be expensive. People arguing that the club over spent, don’t really have any logical metric to compare it to or justify it against. They just want to have a big fecking moan. Whether he was 55 or 65m won’t change the value of his performances moving forwards.

In 2023, he has 15 goals for club and country in 22 starts and 5 subs. Half season adaptation period where he was almost exclusively a sub at age 19 after joining a major league for the first time is hardly a big deal, no?

I'd anticipate he'll need an adaptation period here too. He's young and growing. But saying "9 in 32" with no context is misleading.

Yeh you are right. @JPRouve has provided a breakdown which gives the context and paints a very different picture. I'm guilty of ignorance about the player as I presume many here are.

People take these undisclosed transfer fees so seriously. It's hard not to take the piss but I try at least to make my jokes as obvious as possible.

They do, it's almost like people care about winning the finances and 'net spend' table more than they do actual trophies.

It's not my money, as long as it doesn't get the club into financial trouble then I don't care.

Only just seen that we've agreed a fee. That price  I said there's no way Atalanta are only taking £30m as initially reported, as soon as we come knocking everyone is looking for that big pay day and they got it.
We weren't the only ones in for him. PSG also made a offer for him that was rejected. Atalanta know what a talent he is and how he's viewed across Europe. They also know the striker market is crazy this summer.

People should do themselves a favour and forget about price. The key question is how much is he going to improve us. As a system player, how much better do we get because of him.

I have high hopes for the future and enough faith in ETH as a manager to get the best out of him.

Let's effing go!!!

How’ve we gone from €70m including add-ons to people saying £75m plus?
My question exactly. Somebody is mixing up Euros and Pounds. Don't United have to report the true price to the Stock Market since they are publicly traded.

We have paid £64 million on him, not £72 million. People need to calm down. The £8 million in add on's will be pl and cl success, and probably the ballon dor, and if we do end up paying the full amount it will obviously mean he's been a huge success. Chill out!
Without knowing the criteria, it doesn't necessarily mean that. Havertz for example apparently maxed out his add ons at Chelsea as they won the CL but no one would call him a huge success. Add ons could also be met without him being a regular starter if he gets enough minutes/appearances too.

I agree that people need to relax a bit but it is a big fee and I don't think add ons should necessarily be dismissed as if we achieves them, then great.

Wow lots of misery in here today..

im personally very excited about this guy - the bite that him and Mount will put into our team will be great compared to Eriksen and Wout. Let’s not forget we did pretty well last season and this is for sure an improvement. Having Onana instead of De Gea almost gives us an extra player too plus then Amrabat hopefully to rotate around the midfield… I think people here will be pleasantly surprised to see our extra aggression, courage and movement

I hope that people can at least be happy that we'll have three important signings over the line before the season starts and they should be pretty well integrated into the team, which should hopefully give us a much better start than last season! Or I guess we could keep squabbling with Atalanta over the fee until the season starts and we have no recognised fit striker available and ready to go.

Best of luck to him, we really need this to work. My personal preference was for Kolo Muani, but there’s certainly something to work with here with Hojlund, although I do worry for our creativity from wide. Hopefully he can soon become a 30+ man.

The Oshimen fee was inflated, there is no way Napoli or Lille actually thought the 4 players going the other way were worth €20m.

The deal was 68m€ and then Lille bought 4 players for 20m. The disparity is with the 81m€ claims.

68M€ for Osimhen is close to what United paid for Hojlund.

Mount and this. We literally said a few days ago we wont pay more than 60m. With Mount we had a take it or leave it offer that Chelsea rejected and invited us over to increase it.

I haven't seen any reports claiming we made a final bid and would not go above that. Do you have a source for that?

I remember it with Mason Mount, but I don't think we paid more for him. It was just more addons, if I remember correctly.

I like seeing big numbers next to transfers; big numbers mean other people wanted them too.

No need to be a scout; that's just simple maths.

Without knowing the criteria, it doesn't necessarily mean that. Havertz for example apparently maxed out his add ons at Chelsea as they won the CL but no one would call him a huge success

If you win the Champions League with him scoring the winner and that's his only goal for Man United, 100% of fans would take that right now!

55+43+64 =162m for the summer. Not a bad figure as it seems.
Elanga + Telles = 22m.
Net of around 140m.

Not bad.

You're not wrong, I'd sign up for that right now
